Chapter 80

Chapter 80
{Ryanna’s POV}

I woke up with tears in my eyes.

It wasn't from panic or pain.

Grief maybe? Yes… But lighter somehow. The type you welcomed because you knew it wouldn't be your end.
My hands were curled beneath me on the floor, the dagger long gone, forgotten. I pushed myself up slowly. No shaking this time. No thoughts of falling back down.

I stood.

And it didn’t feel impossible to hold my weight.

I crossed the room, barefoot, and knelt beside Casper’s still form. He hadn’t moved.

But something about him felt different.

Not warmer. Not visibly better. But… less gone. More present.

I placed my hand on his as I bent down and kissed his forehead, gently, like I used to when he was small and fighting off fever dreams.
Like my parents had just done.

Maybe I wanted to make him feel that warmth too. Maybe I thought that would make him spring up… so when he didn’t, I almost felt a hint of sadness creep in, but I shut it down.
“I’m waiting,” I whispered.

For a long moment, I sat there with him. Just breathing. Letting the silence wrap around us like a blanket.
A knock echoed in my mind… soft, unspoken, like a memory brushing past.

I closed my eyes and leaned into it, remembering something my mother said just before she faded.

"Without you, the pack falls."

I used to wonder if this mantle of saving the pack from Aurelius's hands was just pressure dressed up as purpose. Born from a desperate need to bring down the people who hurt me most.

But now?

Now I understood.

The weight wasn’t a cage, it was a leading light.

And I was the one still standing to carry it. Because if I didn’t, who would?

I looked at Casper again. He didn’t stir, but he didn’t feel absent either. More like… he was somewhere deep, on the edge of waking. And I needed to be the world worth waking up to.
“I’ll hold the line,” I murmured, as I caressed his hair. “So when you come back, you’ll still have something to come back to.”

I stood slowly.

Everything in me ached, but not from exhaustion.

From readiness.

I took one final glance around the room. Every healer’s tool, burned-out candle, strand of linen, everything I had once ignored now hummed with quiet significance.
Even the silence felt like it was waiting.

I focused on the pack outside. The world seemed brighter and less gloomy.

I enjoyed the rustle of leaves and the soft murmurs of patrol wolves in the halls outside.

And even something beneath that.

A low, steady hum.

It filled the air like a pulse. The heartbeat of a waking world.

I stood as I moved toward the window.

Outside, the Snow Pack glittered under morning light, the trees kissed with frost, the horizon clear.
And yet… something wasn’t right.

The hum sharpened, frayed at the edges.

Too fast. Too loud.

Like the heartbeat had gone out of rhythm.

I stepped toward the door, opened it—

And chaos swallowed me whole.

Screams tore through the morning.

Smoke streaked the air. Buildings burned at the edges. Wolves were shifting in the streets, some half-formed, caught mid-transformation. Blood splattered stone. There was no order — just panic. All around.

My eyes flicked fast. Shapes moved between buildings, in huge numbers, all too fast and violent to be here for anything but an ambush.

Aurelius.

This was him.

He used Casper’s condition to justify it. A purge. A final sweep to cleanse the Snow Pack and pin the chaos on rogue sympathizers.
And me?

I was the loose end he’d come to cut.

They weren’t just here for the rogues.

They were here for me.

I stood frozen in the doorway for a second too long, watching a wolf leap from a rooftop onto a medic below.
She didn’t even scream.

My heartbeat raced in my chest, fight or flight rattling my bones.

But then—

I stopped.

Closed my eyes.

And breathed.

Everything around me twisted, spinning into blood and ash, screams and cries all rising like a tornado. And still I stood.
Calm.

Like the eye of a storm.

When I opened my eyes again, it was through a lens I’d never seen before.

Everything was sharp.

The smoke curled in patterns. I could hear the heartbeat of the wolf behind me even before he moved.
I saw it then.

In the blood mist that spattered from a charging attacker…. A brute lunged straight for me.
Time slowed.

In one of the droplets that caught the light, I saw my reflection in great detail.

Neither pale nor trembling.

But different. Black-sclera eyes, glowing ocean irises.

The wolf reached me as I turned.

My hand moved of its own accord, claws forming in mid-air as I swung.

The impact crushed his snout sideways, teeth flying like cracked porcelain. He hit the ground and didn’t move.
I stared at my hand.

It wasn’t shifting in pieces like before.

It was changing.

Fully.

Finally.

My bones cracked as if answering a call they’d ignored my whole life.

Silver fur spread across my arms like wildfire.

My spine snapped into a new frame. Taller. More powerful.

The pain should’ve dropped me.

But it was welcomed.

It was the first thing in a long time that felt like it belonged to me.

In the twinkle of an eye, I wasn’t Ryanna the survivor anymore.

I was Ryanna the bloodline.

The warrior.

The heir.

The silver wolf.

My form stretched tall — larger than any I'd seen in ages. My paws cracked the stone beneath me. My fur shimmered with a sheen that simply reflected light.
Wolves stopped mid-charge when they saw me.

The red in my eyes glowed through the smoke like wildfire.

I bared my fangs.

And leapt into the chaos.

An intense clarity washed over me like water.

I could feel the legacy in me now.

The Pelasgus bloodline. The Lycan throne. Everything that had been taken and twisted. Everything Aurelius tried to suppress, hide, or own.
But this was never his.

It was mine.

And it had finally surfaced.
