The price of possession

The price of possession

Lynn’s visit to Isabella had not been planned. In truth, she had delayed it for days, hoping—praying—that the storm brewing inside her chest would settle. It did not.

Isabella was seated in the sitting room when Lynn arrived, her posture relaxed yet dignified, her hands resting lightly on her lap as she listened to Mrs. Norah speak about pack matters. The fire crackled softly in the hearth, filling the room with warmth that contrasted sharply with the tension Lynn carried inside her.

The guards announced her arrival, and moments later Lynn stepped in.

Isabella looked up, surprise flashing briefly across her face.

“What do I owe this sudden visit?” Isabella asked, her voice calm, though her eyes betrayed curiosity and caution.

Lynn swallowed before speaking. “My mate has committed himself to bringing you back to Alpha William,” she said bluntly. “He made it known to the pack members. He took an oath. An oath that dragged me into it as well.”

The room went still.

Mrs. Norah frowned in confusion, her gaze shifting between the two women. Isabella’s expression hardened slightly as she rose to her feet.

“How could he do such a thing?” Isabella asked quietly. “And what makes him believe that I would ever return to Alpha William—especially knowing I now stand beside Alpha Desmond?”

Lynn took a step forward. “Please,” she said, her voice lowering. “For the sake of the pack. They need you.”

Isabella’s eyes sharpened. “Are you asking this for your mate,” she asked seriously, “or for the same pack members who stood silent when I was humiliated, rejected, and cast aside?”

Lynn hesitated only briefly. “For both, Luna Isabella.”

Isabella exhaled slowly. “Then pray Alpha Desmond never hears such words from your lips,” she said firmly. “You are asking me to abandon the man who protected me, chose me, and stood against every threat for my sake.”

She stepped closer to Lynn. “Advise your mate to solve his own mistakes. He has walked himself into a mess no oath can undo.”

The weight of Isabella’s words struck Lynn squarely in the chest. She realized then that Edward’s loyalty had crossed into recklessness.

Lynn left shortly afterward, her thoughts tangled in regret.

That same evening, Alpha Desmond returned from his patrols. Isabella and Mrs. Norah greeted him warmly, pretending nothing had happened. Yet Isabella’s heart felt heavy. She sensed the ground shifting beneath them, though she did not yet know why.

When Lynn returned to her pack, she found chaos waiting.

Edward stood at the center of the courtyard, his voice raised as he attempted to summon the pack members and elders. His face was strained, his shoulders tense.

“What are you trying to do?” Lynn demanded as she approached him.

Edward turned, his eyes filled with something dangerously close to despair.

“I can’t afford to lose you,” he said quietly. “Nor the child. The truth is… I cannot reunite Alpha William and Isabella. I was wrong to believe it was destiny.”

Lynn’s jaw tightened. “You knew this, yet you still took the oath?”

“I thought duty would fix what pride destroyed,” Edward replied bitterly.

She shook her head. “I promised to help, yes. But Isabella loves Alpha Desmond now. Truly.”

Before Edward could respond, a familiar, overpowering presence descended upon the courtyard.

Alpha William.

He appeared suddenly, his aura sharp and suffocating, his eyes blazing with possessive fury.

“That cannot be,” William growled. “My mate cannot remain with a stranger.”

Lynn stepped forward fearlessly. “And how do you intend to reclaim her? Through war? Bloodshed?”

William’s lips curled. “Whatever it takes.”

Lynn stared at him in disbelief. “I wish I were never a member of this pack,” she said coldly. “You are blinded by power and arrogance, believing strength grants ownership.”

Edward lowered his head. “I made the worst mistake of my life by taking that oath,” he said quietly. “I regret it.”

William ignored him. “If she refuses to return, then she must at least grant me access to my son.”

The courtyard fell silent.

But silence did not last.

Consumed by jealousy and wounded pride, Alpha William made a decision that would haunt him.

That very night, he summoned a scribe and dictated a letter addressed directly to Alpha Desmond.

Not a plea.

Not a negotiation.

A challenge.

He demanded war.

The letter declared that Isabella was his by bond, by blood, and by fate—and that whichever Alpha emerged victorious would claim her.

The seal was stamped before reason could catch up to rage.

When the letter reached Alpha Desmond’s hands, the effect was immediate.

He read it once.

Twice.

Then his aura erupted violently, cracking the stone floor beneath his feet.

“How dare he,” Desmond roared.

His warriors felt it from the outer borders—the surge of murderous intent.

A war with William would not merely end in victory. It would end in annihilation.

And Desmond knew it.

Yet he said nothing to Isabella.

He kept the letter locked away, allowing his fury to simmer, his plans forming silently.

Word of the challenge spread quickly, and panic seized William’s pack.

The elders knew the truth.

A war with Alpha Desmond would destroy them.

They traveled to Desmond’s territory, humbling themselves before him, kneeling in the dust of a rival land.

“Please,” the eldest among them begged. “Do not answer William’s challenge. Our pack will not survive it.”

Isabella overheard the conversation.

Shock turned swiftly into rage.

She confronted Alpha Desmond that very night.

“You knew,” she said, her voice trembling with fury. “You knew about the letter. About the war. And you said nothing to me.”

Desmond turned to her, his expression heavy. “I wanted to destroy him,” he admitted. “Not for you—but for his arrogance. For believing he could claim you through violence.”

Isabella raised her hand sharply. “Enough.”

Her eyes blazed with authority. “I will not be treated as a prize. Not by him. Not by you.”

Desmond froze.

She continued, her voice resolute. “If war comes, know this—I will stand beside you, not behind you. And together, we will destroy him if he dares cross our borders.”

Desmond bowed his head. “Forgive me.”

Isabella sent word to Alpha William herself.

Her message was cold and unyielding.

Even if war comes, she declared, know this—I will not return to you. I will stand beside Alpha Desmond and destroy you with him. You will never lay eyes on me again.

The message shattered William.

For the first time, clarity pierced through his madness.

He saw what he had become.

A ruler blinded by obsession.

A mate who believed possession equaled love.

That same night, William wrote another letter.

This one trembled with remorse.

He apologized to Alpha Desmond for his arrogance and withdrew his challenge.

He apologized to Isabella—not as a mate demanding submission, but as a man acknowledging his failure.

“I lost you long before you left,” he wrote. “And I mistook power for love.”

When Desmond read the letter, he consulted Isabella.

“For the sake of the packs,” she said quietly, “we forgive him.”

Desmond agreed.

But forgiveness did not mean reconciliation.

William would remain distant—watched, restrained, and alone.

And Isabella?

She stood stronger than ever, no longer defined by bonds written in blood, but by choices forged in truth.

Meanwhile, Isabella and Desmond love continue to grow more stronger and healthier, they are easily sees around, on social media, and every device that tells how they love each other. Yet Isabella wolf kept reminding her.
" You can't love him and watch the destiny of your son be destroy." Her wolf speaks. You have to think for a fast means to make up thing with him. Alpha William in question should be allow to visit his son, hug him and treat him right."
Isabella opened her eyes after hearing this, she stood up from her bed, then fixed her eyes on the mirror.

" How will I suddenly give up my son to a alpha that rubbish me.?" She asked herself.
" You have to my Luna." Mrs. Evelyn told her behind. Do not panic, what you are asked to do is part of your destiny, you can't escape from it." She added.
" Not to such a alpha. I hate him."
" You hate him while the goddess have destine you both."

" Destiny is what I can't fight, but this I will remain Sturbon." Isabella boldly said.
" Not to the one that has destine you." Mrs. Evelyn said.
Isabella shouted at her for the first time, Mrs. Evelyn ran to her room.

Suddenly alpha Desmond was assisted by his guard into the sitting room, where he was kept on the cushion.

Flora hurried and called Isabella.

" What is the problem Flora.?" Isabella asked, feeling frustrated.
" It is about alpha Desmond, he is lying down unhealthy in the sitting room." Flora said.
Isabella stood with force and had to check, she was shocked to see alpha Desmond lying down, he couldn't move instead looks more like a dead alpha.
Isabella tried every of her healing power on him, nothing seems to work.
" His life is in your hands." The goddess voice said to Isabella.

" I don't understand you." She asked the goddess voice.
" You will have to allow Williams play the fathering part in his son life, he should grown with alpha Desmond. Failure to do that, alpha Desmond will remain like this till dead." The voice went silent.

" No, I can't afford loosing alpha Desmond, same time find it difficult to do what the goddess demand from me." Isabella left in the position of making decisions.
