Chapter 126 Cat helping
Chapter 126 Zephyra saving
ZEPHYRA'S POV
I am trapped in a nightmare, a landscape of jagged, shifting shadows and the acrid, metallic scent of ozone and scorched earth. In the center of this vision, pinned against a wall of weeping, moss-covered rock deep within the Northern mines, is Evander.
His olive skin, usually so vibrant it seems to reflect the warmth of the sun, is matted with thick, dark blood that runs in sluggish, horrific rivulets.
His internal fire, that furnace of his Alpha power that usually roars beneath his skin, is dimming, flickering like a candle caught in a freezing gale.
My body shakes and the visual shifts.
"Move EVANDER. The enemies are closing in." I yeall to him but he doesn't seem to hear.
I look at the wolves. They aren't just wolves; they are something worse. They move with the jagged, hitching motions of marionettes, their limbs snapping back into place even as they sustain mortal wounds. They are controlled, driven by a void that hungers for the light he carries.
I shake again in my sleep, a violent tremor racking my frame. The dream is too real, the cold of the mine seeping into my very bones.
Zephyra.
The Wolf Goddess’s voice tears through the dreamscape- not a whisper, but a command that vibrates in my marrow like a tolling bell.
The bond is straining, child. He cannot hold the line against the rot of the void. His light is being extinguished.
I wake with a jolt, my breath hitching as if I have been underwater for an eternity. My heart slams against my ribs like a trapped bird, and as I lift my hands to steady myself, I freeze.
My palms are glowing with a soft, pulsating, freezing-blue light, the resonance of the Sky Stone waking within me, responding to the mortal danger of my mate.
I look at the empty space beside me in the bed. It is ice cold.
"Where is he, Cat?" I hiss into the darkness, my voice trembling.
The room remains silent, but the bond answers with a fractured, aching thrum.
"Pain. Blood. Imminent death.
I scramble to stand, but the sheer, crushing weight of the twins pulls me back down, anchoring me to the mattress. My head spins, a wave of nausea crashing over me as the magical exertion takes its toll. I grit my teeth, forcing myself upright. I stumble toward the wardrobe, discarding my silk robe in favor of a tactical harness.
My fingers fumble with the buckles, my hands still dancing with that eerie, azure light that seems to defy the laws of the room.
The air in the room shifts, turning sharp and frigid. A presence manifests before me- the Goddess, her form a shimmering outline of starlight and fur.
"You cannot go," she says, her voice echoing with the weight of ages.
"My mate is dying!" I scream, reaching for my combat knife. As I bend, the pressure of the pregnancy hits me like a physical blow; the knife slips from my numb fingers, clattering uselessly to the floor. Tears of pure, unadulterated terror well in my eyes.
"Even you cannot expect me to sit here and watch him be consumed!"
"You will, Zephyra," she commands, her eyes cold as glaciers.
"Your presence there would collapse the ley lines, and you would lose the children. You are a conduit, not just a warrior. Send your wolf. If you go, you will only be a distraction, a target for the rot to consume."
I swallow the bile in my throat, a sob breaking through my defiance. Acceptance is a bitter pill, but I see the truth in her eyes—the stark, undeniable reality that my physical body is tethered to the survival of the heirs. I drop my head, closing my eyes, and reach out with my soul.
I plunge into the depths of my own spirit, past the fear and the exhaustion, and find the Sky Stone. It hums, cold and infinite, a piece of the cosmos resting in my chest.
I feel Cat stir in the deepest corridors of my consciousness. She is not just a wolf; she is the manifestation of the Sky itself.
"Go," I whisper into the dark, my voice echoing with a celestial authority that terrifies even me.
"Save him."
From the shadows of the room, a rift tears open. The fabric of reality peels back like charred parchment, revealing a swirling vortex of starlight and void. Out steps the manifestation of my divinity.
The creature of legend.
My wolf of impossible size with two heads: one reflecting the fierce, ancient wisdom of the stars, the other the unbridled, thundering fury of the storm. Its fur is the color of the midnight sky, and its tail is not just hair, but a luminescent blue flame that leaves frost in its wake, crystallizing the floorboards as it moves.
Cat lets out a sound that is beyond a howl; she sounds like the sky itself is tearing open. A dissonance that shatters the windows of the palace wing, sending shards of glass raining down like lethal confetti.
"Please," I sob, clutching my belly as the beast turns to me, its eyes glowing like dying stars.
"Save him."
It vanishes into the rift. I collapse back onto the bed, but I don't need to watch. I am the wolf; I am the power; I am the distance. My mouth whispers prayers to the Wolf Goddess, my pulse syncing with the frantic, fading beat of Evander’s heart.
"I refuse to be a widow," I whisper into the hollow silence.
"I refuse to lose another person. Please, keep my husband safe."
I feel every pulse of the bond. I feel the moment Cat tears through the physical plane and enters the battlefield... the sudden, violent displacement of air as the atmosphere itself bows to her arrival.
