Chapter 14 14
Vanessa's Pov
You know how we've been postponing the dinner and all that, well, we finally got to do it today. I was already on my way to the house by 7am. Mind you, alongside with Rebecca. She's family too since her family isn't really her favourite persons right now. They've always not been her favourite person ever since she stood her ground. Well, that's her story to tell and not mine.
Do I feel somehow about the whole family brunch? Hell nah. I'm just going to be my brothers witness that he told our parents that he proposed to silver and probably join them in the whole jubilation and all that thing they do when there's good news. Also, I want to use this opportunity to see my Elder sister, Autumn... I need to see and feel her stomach. It looks cute.
Currently, I was driving down. I guess I'll be driving for 6 hours before I get to my family house. I'll be doing all the driving myself because Becca doesn't look like she'll be offering a helping hand. I don't regret choosing to be far from home and besides, my parents aren't always at the stay at home kind of parents. They're workaholics..I wonder how they'll survive today without work.
6 hours later...
"Here we are" I smiled at my house. It's been long.
"You ready?" Rebecca asked
"I was born ready. It shouldn't be anything I can't handle" I smiled and led the way
"Darling!" My mother yelled immediately I walked in. She waved for me to come meet her in the kitchen. She was still cooking
"Hi Mum" I hugged her and went over to meet my dad at the balcony where I could see him arranging the table. "Hey old man" I teased
"Say that one more time" he threatened. Empty threats.
"Hey papa!" Rebecca yelled from the kitchen
"Oh who brought this bitch" Dad groaned and i laughed. But mum glared at him from where she was.
I remember when we used to have a swear jar for all the bad words we said. Dad and Rebecca really gave mum cool cash in the short time we all managed to be home during short school break. Business woman
"I sure as hell missed you sugar daddy!" Rebecca laughed. "I hope sugar mumm- ow!"
I turned to see Becca rubbing on the spot mum used spatula to hit her with.
You'd think my dad and Becca don't get along too fine cos of how they bicker but that's just how they get along. You need to see them gossiping. Well, she practically forces him even though most times he's on his phone. I can guarantee you that my father curses me in his heart for letting her into our house. Or for picking her as a friend. But I also know he enjoys her company as much as I do.
As for mum, my mother doesn't have a problem with her and my father relating or being close. She has taken her as a daughter after all.
"I guess you should help dad" I winked at dad and left him with Rebecca. I close the glass door behind me so I don't hear their bickering. It never gets old.
"How are you doing?" Mum asked
"Very fine" I smiled, helping her clean the plates, spoons and cups that'll be used today.
I respect her for making herself available today. But hey! We all made today available too.
"I'm hereee!!! In flesh!" Autumn made quite an entrance and I ran to go hug my big sister.
Very mature, I know.
"Careful! I spent money on that baby bump" Edward yelled
"You make it sound like I'm wearing a fake baby bump. Idiot!" Autumn laughed. "Hi little sis. Hi Mama. Oh I see the two love birds outside, bickering as usual. Someone save dad please"
We all turned to look at them. It was a funny scene but nothing surprising when it comes to them.
"Hi sweetie. It's Aunty Vanessa over here. Come out safely so I can spoil you silly okay?" I said to the baby bump. I know there's a baby inside there that's listening to me anyway.
"Ou! The baby kicked" Autumn smiled at me and I couldn't help but blush
"But it never kicked whenever I said something or you're just being impartial" Edward frowned and Autumn played deaf and we all laughed.
We all exchanged pleasantries and head to the table at the balcony to set few things.
"Ahh! If it isn't pot belly" Rebecca teased and Autumn played deaf and decided to hugged dad first.
"Welcome hunnie" Dad said cheerfully.
"How do you sleep at night with such thing" Rebecca goes close to Autumn just to irk her.
"Step back before I get sentenced. Orange ain't even my favourite color and i can't wear it because of you." Autumn fired back and we all laughed
"Nice to see you sis" Rebecca hugged her and I shook my head at how she started everything with trouble first.
"Go get the drinks before Jason gets here" Mum said to Becca
"Papa, I might need your help" Becca said battling her eyelashes
"Sorry, I'm taken" Dad said immediately and we all laughed again
A phone rang and everybody turned to look at my parents. We all know how busy they can be. It could be their phone
"Not mine" Dad said nervously and we looked at mum
"Not mine either." She rolled her eyes at us
"Then whose phone?" I asked
"Your man is calling, girl. Should I answer it?" Becca yelled from the kitchen
"Man?!!!" Everyone yelled. I swear I heard extra voices.
"You have a man?" Jason said, making his presence known. I said it that I heard other voices.
Jason and Silver strolled on looking dashing and lovey dovey. Silver isn't really new to the family. I know there was once we all had a girls sleepover. It was crazy and fun, so I don't think there'll be much introduction because she's been in the picture since.
"Its not what you think please" I rolled my eyes and frowned at Rebecca for having a loud mouth.
"Sorry" she whispered but I still ignored her.
I'll forgive her when I get out of this alive.
I silenced my phone and got back to the eyes trying to eat me
"We came for Jason today. Why is everyone looking at me and not Jason?"
"Because you have a man you're supposed to tell us about?" Rebecca said and I've never much wanted to squeeze someone's mouth.
"Sorry to burst your bubble. Rebecca is just messing with y'all. It's my client that happens to be very complicated and can be a nuisance at times. Nothing serious" I shrugged
"Anyway!!!! Welcome to our house again, Silver" Dad said and I sighed in relief but Autumn kept giving me this weird "you can't lie to me" look
I'm not even lying!
"Aw, Thank you Dad. I'm happy to be here with the full family again" She smiled
"You've been pumping this girl real hard. She's glowing" Rebecca teased and silver blushed hard
"Language!" Mum scolded
"Yeah! Autumn leave with your baby. This conversation is rated PG 20 or however they say it" Rebecca said and Autumn flipped her off and mum glared at her
"Very responsible" Edward laughed hard at his wife's behavior
"Okay. Thank you all for coming and yes I pump her real good so she doesn't go outside looking for someone else. So the big announcement is that, Silver and I are now engaged and I accept congratulations and gifts" He smiled at his fianceé and she raises her ring for everyone and my mum stood up to embrace her.
"You've done well boy" Dad praised Jason and we all said our congratulations and did a lot of hugs.
"Eat up everyone. This is so lovely. I'm the happiest mother" mum smiled sweetly
We all ate in silence. After eating we cleared up the dirty dishes - Just the girls, with Autumn sitting on the chair, talking our ears off with pregnancy drama and hormones.
Edward really tries for her.
After washing, we gathered around to watch a one hour comedy show by kevin hart. We laughed and joked around about certain things once the comedy show was over.
It felt peaceful and I was really happy for my twin brother and I'm happy he chose a good girl. We've known about him and Silver for years now. I mean, it's high time man!
I cooed at the way Edward babysat Autumn. It was so sweet. I got to find out that she wasn't really far from her due date too.
Rebecca didn't stop looking for everyone's trouble. I wasn't an exception but we all survived. I was just surprised she forgot that I could kill her while driving her back home. My father was very happy when he heard she wasn't staying overnight. It was really funny but I know he'll miss her.
The low-key family reunion wasn't a bad experience after all.
