Chapter 11 Chapter 11
Violet
Elijah slid his hands in his pockets while continuing to observe me gulp down the water like a thirsty bear and finally answered her.
“Excuse me?” She shouted out indignantly and in my haste to correct him, I inhaled and instead of speaking, ended up spraying her with the water I was going to gulp down.
Fuck!
I hastily reached for the tissues and tried to dab at her clothes while explaining miserably.
“I…I am so sorry. I didn’t know Elijah…Alpha Lockwood had a girlfriend. And I am not trying to marry him. I just want an alliance.”
The girl watched me for a confused second before she knit her brows and then placed her hands on her hips.
“That’s right. How dare you try to steal him from me?”
She walked over to Elijah and placed a hand on his shoulder possessively.
“I…can explain. Please, I only want an alliance. If he had told me he was seeing someone, I wouldn’t even…”
The girl continued to glare at me but the more I explained, the more I noticed how Elijah was unbothered in a strange way.
He simply focussed on the screen and began typing something, letting me deal with his girlfriend, or fling whoever she was.
And then I saw the faintest hint of a smile on her face that told me something was very wrong.
I stopped talking abruptly and she couldn’t control it anymore as her lips twitched.
The girl burst out into laughter, howling like I had delivered the biggest joke of the century. Her cheeks turned red and she was clutching her stomach.
And I was suddenly reminded of a similar scene, of Nicole doing the same shit with Nate while he ignored the tears gathering in my eyes.
For Goddess sake, it was too soon to have a deja vu moment.
Meanwhile, my face had gone utterly pale and I could feel the back of my eyes growing moist.
Nope, dont cry, dont! I shouted at myself when Elijah finally looked up, not at Cass but at me.
“Enough Cass, go home”
Cass punched him in the shoulders again.
“I traveled from the other end of the world to this hellhole of a city and I am jetlagged. I needed this, big bro.”
Somehow, color returned to my cheeks upon hearing her last two words.
Big bro. She was his sister.
Of course, she was.
Or else, why would she kiss him on the cheek and try to arm wrestle him if she wasn’t his sibling?
Elijah’s gaze flicked to me at the exact moment realization dawned upon me and he noticed how my stiff shoulders sagged in relief.
Shit.
I tore my gaze away from him and held out a hand towards her.
“Sorry, you got a really crappy first impression of me! I apologize for the mishap.”
But she slapped my hand away.
“I’d marry you if I was into girls. But I hope one day you really marry him considering you are the only decent girl who was ever interested in him.”
I was not interested in her brother, not the way she assumed. And what did she mean by the only decent girl she saw him with?
Did she know of all his flings and affairs?
Odd compliment but I took it and smiled at her as she shook my hand.
“My name is Cassie. But you can call me Cass. That emotionally constipated brick wall is my brother. Half-brother, technically. And I am really jet-lagged right now.”
She stifled a yawn and I smiled at her, shaking her hand.
“I am Violet and I only want an alliance for my pack.”
“Of course, you do. Because, if you were a golddigger that strutted in impossibly high heels, I would have strangled you to death.”
I blinked.
“Uh…sorry, for not living up to your expectations?”
She slapped my shoulder while laughing out loud.
“Damn, you are funny. Why wouldn’t you marry my brother then? Because he is boring?” She asked, widening her eyes and looking at me hopefully for an answer.
“I….” I faltered, caught off guard but Elijah stepped in smoothly, grabbing her by the shoulders and gently steering her towards the door.
“You really need to go home and get some sleep. This is my office. I will see you later tonight, okay?”
But she shook her head and pushed his hands away.
“Not until I get some answers, big bro. Why did you cancel the wedding?”
She was quite demanding.
“I put it on hold. Temporarily,” Elijah said to her but his eyes were on me.
Huh? When did that happen and why wasn’t I aware of it?
“Oh damn, so you postponed it? Why?" She then turned to look at me. “You didn’t like the honeymoon destination?”
I was scandalized to even hear the word honeymoon. My brain hadn’t really thought that far ahead.
“And that is the reason I sent you to the other side of the world, you nosy little thing,” Elijah grabbed her by the waist this time, lifted her up as she flailed her hands and looked at me for help.
“Okay, okay, put me down. I will shut my mouth.”
Elijah stopped walking though he was still holding her like a tantrum throwing kid.
“Do you promise?” He asked.
“Only if you give me a city tour, take me to a fancy restaurant and I get the answer neither of you want to give me.”
She said brightly.
Elijah shook his head and walked towards the door while she continued talking animatedly.
“Tyler” He shouted and somebody came running towards the door.
“Drop her home and ensure she stays there”
And then he looked at her. “Don’t give him a tough time and try any of your tricks with him okay?”
There was warning but also love and affection in his voice. He genuinely cared for his half sister.
Though now that his attention wasn’t on me, I began wondering about him and my research. Half sister meant either his mother or father had another marriage or affair.
But nothing had showed up in my search last night. It looked like Elijah really kept his personal life under the wraps.
And I wondered why that was the case yet again. Was he truly hiding something or just was a private person?
My brain was lost in thoughts when he shut the door on Cassie’s face.
Elijah sighed when he shut the door and walked back towards the desk, pinching the bridge of his nose. But I could see he wasn’t really annoyed by Cass.
If anything, he seemed to like her.
“Sorry about that. Cass doesn’t have filters.”
“I noticed,” I smiled and then added, “I didn’t know you had a half-sister.”
Elijah didn't even bother looking at me as he replied, “I doubt you know anything about me”
