I was nervous; I could feel that Nash was as well.
"Don't look so serious, moonpie, you look like you're ready to kill," my dad told me and poked me in my side. I giggled. "That's better."
"Thanks, Dad," I said. My dad, Ulf and Amber had arrived two days ago with six warriors and the remaining pack members who were to officially become members of our pack. It had been a blessing having them here while we did the final preparation for the big ceremony. For once, my dad and aunt seemed to get along. They still made some jabs at each other, but now it was all for fun.
"I wouldn't have guessed I would get to see that," Ulf told me as we watched one of their playful interactions, ending with both of them laughing.
"No? You always said they got along when mom was alive," I said.
"Yeah, but I always figured mom had put a spell, or a curse, on them to make them get along. Wait! Did you?" he asked, looking at me. I laughed.
"Don't be an idiot, Ulf. Of course I didn't," I answered. All three of them had helped inspect the newly built guest quarters and our choice for the official pack ceremonial place. It was an odd choice maybe, but we had chosen the place where the remains of Avolona's victims had been cremated. It felt like it had been there that the first seed had been sown for what was to become the idea that formed our pack. It was also almost in the middle of the future pack land and equally as far from the clubhouse as from the coven's village.
"I like it," my aunt had declared.
"It's a beautiful spot, but isn't it a little… grim?" Amber asked.
"I think it's serene," Lizzy said. We all knew her brother had been one of the many who had been laid to rest here. The witches took on the job of preparing the place. Now, two days later, it looked to be everything we wanted it to be. They had cleared away the vegetation to form a big circle. The circle had then been marked by laying down natural stones in a whirlpool pattern. The final touch was a knee-high wall made of the same kind of red stones with five openings.
"This will be perfect," my aunt said, approvingly.
My dad had spent time with both me and Nash. We had talked about how we had prepared the humans for the change and we had shown him the ‘magic classes’ we had running. In smaller groups the human part of the club was taught about the magical world. There were talks about the different creatures who existed, with a focus on the ones they were most likely to run into. We had talks about pack rules and etiquette.
"It's impressive," my dad told us as we had just finished listening to Beridan telling a group of children about mind-linking.
"Thanks, we want them to be as prepared as possible," Nash said. My dad nodded.
"You are doing a good job at it. Everyone seems open to the new way of living," he remarked.
"They are. We are all looking forward to the change," I told him.
"How do you feel about Hilda and Bones leaving?" he asked us.
"It's sad, I have got used to having her close. It's been nice having a teacher," I told him. "But she has a coven to run and she is only a phone call away."
"I have never seen Bones as happy as he has been since he and Hilda got together. He has been holding the club together ever since Ram died. He deserves to be happy and carefree," Nash added. My dad nodded.
"I'm surprised to find that I will miss not having Hilda around. She is useful, but fucking annoying as well," he confessed.
"I think that is a family trait," I said.
The reason both me and Nash were nervous now, was that we were waiting for our guests to arrive. Alpha Sam and Luna Alice had been picked up by Alpha Graham and Luna Bella as they were all flying in. Now we had received a report that they had arrived at the airport and the men we had sent were bringing them back.
"The rooms are in order, right?" I asked Beridan for the fifth time.
"For the last time; YES!" he told me. My dad chuckled and I glared at him.
"I keep telling you to relax," he told me.
"Like that is helping," I sassed. "Sorry," I then said. He looked like he was having the time of his life. Nash pulled me into his arms. His scent calmed me a little, but since he was almost as nervous as I was, it didn't help as much as I had wanted. When I heard the tyres of the cars, I tensed up.
"Relax, it will be fine. They will love the place and the pack," Nash told me. I nodded. He was right. We had a good pack, well, we would have a good pack before tomorrow was over, and I knew that at least Sam and Alice loved me. They were here as personal friends. Alpha Graham and Luna Bella were here as official representatives of the Alpha council. I had met them both before, and Bella and I were friends. I had nothing to fear. The cars stopped in the parking area and the two Alpha couples stepped out of the cars with their warriors.
"Welcome to the Howlers," I said. Alice gave me a big smile and an even bigger hug, followed by Bella doing the same. Sam and Graham were shaking hands with Nash, then with my brother and dad. I introduced the two Lunas to Amber and then we all talked while we walked inside.
"I hope you don't mind that we brought Niles, he is our Gamma," Alice asked me quietly as we walked arm in arm.
"Not at all," I said. Bella giggled on my other side and Amber looked curiously at us.
"Alice has been trying to find a mate for poor Niles for a couple of years," Bella explained.
"It's a hopeless task," Alice sighed.
"First she tried with me, but I wasn't interested and then I met Gray," Bella said.
"Then when I visited their pack at the beginning of the year, she tried to match me with him," I told Amber. Amber glanced at Niles who was walking behind us, and giggled.
"That didn't go well, I guess," she said. I shook my head and Alice sighed.
"He's a really nice wolf," she complained.
"He is," both Bella and I agreed at the same time.
"I have given up. I will let the moon goddess handle this one," Alice told us.
"This is the newly built wing," Nash said as we came to the part of the clubhouse that was now holding guest accommodations.
"You have been busy if you have managed to build this in such a short time," Graham told us.
"We have also renovated the Alpha, Beta and Gamma apartment and built two houses. When the ceremony and the partying are over, we plan to renovate the first floor that will hold apartments in the pack house," I shared.
"You know you don't have to do everything in one day, right?" Bella asked. I scrunched my nose.
"My lovely mate doesn't like to think that some pack members will have to make do with the smaller rooms we have now," Nash told them.
"Sounds like a Luna to me," Sam said. Everyone laughed.
