154, It isn't that difficult
Tite
“So, I hear you are stealing my pack members before you even have a pack,” my brother said to me. I looked up from the bowl of soup I was eating to see if he was offended. He looked relaxed.
“Obviously. I tried to get Amber to do the same, but she was too loyal,” I told him.
“Fucking right,” he said and kissed his mate. She giggled and rolled her eyes.
“You don’t mind?” I asked to make sure.
“Not at all. They had valid reasons and I know they will end up in a good pack. Just leave me a couple of wolves for my pride’s sake,” he said. I laughed.
“I will think about it. You can have Mara and Kendra,” I teased him.
“Oh great,” he huffed.
“Tite!” Mara said as she stood up from her seat. I just looked at her and shrugged. Gone were the days when I needed to be respectful because she was my Luna and gone were the days when I did it to keep the peace.
“Are you ready for tomorrow?” Amber asked me. I smiled at her.
“Almost, Luna,” I said and saw the slight discomfort that showed on her face as I used her title. She would get more comfortable. “We are planning to discuss the leadership this afternoon,” I added.
“Let us know if we can help. It wasn’t that long ago we made the same decision,” she told me. I smiled and nodded.
After lunch, Nash and I went back to our room. He got two beers and handed me one as we sat down on the couch.
“So,” I said.
“So,” he agreed. We both chuckled. “Why is this so hard?” he asked.
“I have no idea,” I said and leaned back so I was halfway laying down. It wasn’t comfortable, but it suited my mood.
“We agree about Shadow, right?” Nash said. We hadn’t discussed it, but it felt obvious.
“Yes. Beta, right?” I asked.
“Yeah. He is good at fighting, but after watching Gunnar train your warriors, I want that and I don’t think it’s Shadow’s thing,” Nash told me. I imagined Shadow getting up at the crack of dawn every day to take the warriors out for a mile run in the desert. I giggled.
“He would hate it,” I agreed.
“So, Shadow for Beta?”
“Yes. That gives us Beridan as the Beta’s mate. I like that symmetry,” I said.
“Good, then that is done. See, easy,” Nash told me and drank some beer. We sat in silence for a while.
“And Gamma?” I asked.
“I’m thinking, I’m thinking,” he told me. I smiled and drank some of my beer. “Do you have any bright ideas?” he asked.
“Little?” I asked.
“He’s a good man, but I can’t see him planning shifts and keeping records. He’s more of a do’er. By the way, you never told me what is going on between him and Jane,” Nash said. I raised an eyebrow and looked at him. “Yeah, yeah. I’m not stupid. I know about that, but you saw something the other day,” he clarified.
“Oh, right. That. They are having a pup, or a baby,” I said.
“What!? They told you that?” he asked, sitting up straighter. I laughed.
“No, but they both placed their hands on her stomach as we were talking about a pack protecting families and when Jane met my eyes, she blushed and smiled. Pair it with her insistence a couple of weeks ago to go to the pharmacy alone, and you get pregnancy,” I told him.
“That is amazing news,” he said and looked happy.
“It is,” I agreed. “And I think you are right about Little. Ink? Doc?” I asked. He went from smiling to frowning.
“Not to be that guy, but I would have liked one from the younger generation,” Nash said. I nodded. It was understandable.
“That’s my list,” I said.
“Sorry.”
“No, no. It has to be the right fit. If there is a time and a place to be picky, this is it,” I told him. He sank back into a position similar to mine, his feet landed on the coffee table. I looked at the feet and then at him. He looked back at me and I looked at his feet.
“Sorry,” he said and placed them back on the floor. I smiled and kissed him.
“Thak you,” I said and rested my head on his shoulder.
“How about Bo?” Nash asked.
“What do you mean? You don’t think he wants to switch packs?” I asked.
“No, I believe him. I was thinking as Gamma,” he clarified as he played with a strand of my hair.
“Gamma?” I thought about it. “That is brilliant,” I told him.
“You think so?”
“I do. He is a good warrior, he loves to train others and he has a good understanding of life in a pack. We will make use of him. And Lizzy is an angel. She will be a good addition to the top tier as well,” I said. I got more excited as I talked.
“Okay! Good! This wasn’t that hard at all. What do we do now?” he asked.
“Now we ask them,” I said.
“Ask? They can turn us down?” he wanted to know, sounding defeated. I laughed and kissed him.
“Of course, we can’t force them. I will bet you money they will accept,” I told him.
“I won’t take the bet. I’m not betting against us.”
“Smart man. Should we start with Shadow and Beridan?” Nash reached for his phone and called Shadow.
“Hey, man. You have me and Tite. Is Beridan around?” Nash said.
“Like I would ever be far away from him. I’ll put you on speaker,” Shadow huffed.
“Hi,” Beridan said.
“Hello. Is everything going okay at home?” I asked.
“Do you think we have burned the place to the ground or something?” Shadow asked.
“If it was just you, I’d be worried, but since Beridan is there as well, I know he will keep you safe,” I said. Everyone laughed.
“It’s fine. We are surviving and the group who knows what is going on is really excited,” Beridan told us.
“We are calling to ask you something,” Nash told them.
“We are listening,” Shadow said.
“Would you like to be the Beta of the pack?” Nash asked.
“Me?” Shadow asked.
“Thay aren’t asking me, I’m already going to be high priest,” Beridan said, sounding amused.
“Of course you, you idiot,” Nash told him.
“I would be honoured, but are you sure? I’m not a wolf,” Shadow pointed out.
“And I am?” Nash asked.
“Good point,” Shadow said with a chuckle. “Fine. I accept and I will do my all to make the pack thrive.”
“Thank you. We will need you. Both of you,” I told them. We talked for a while longer, discussing the meeting with the Alpha council and then about things at home.
“I almost feel homesick now,” I said to Nash as we hung up.
“I know, but we need to stay a bit longer,” he told me.
“I know. Are you okay with me mindlinking Bo and asking that he and Lizzy come up?” I asked.
“Go ahead, I’ll get him a beer. What should I get for her?” he answered.
“Get her a soda, I will have one as well.” It didn’t take them long to knock on our door. We invited them in and sat down.
“Is there an issue?” Bo asked. He looked ready to jump in and deal with whatever was in our way. I smiled at him.
“No issues,” I said.
“We actually wanted to ask you if you would consider becoming our Gamma?” Nash asked. Bo looked at him for a long while. Then he looked at me.
“Is he serious?” he asked me. I laughed.
“He is,” I said.
“Why does no one take me seriously?” Nash whined. Both Lizzy and I laughed.
“I feel for you,” I said.
“That’s a lie, but besides that. Will you at least think about it?” Nash asked Bo.
“He won’t need to think about it. He will accept,” Lizzy told us. Bo looked down at his mate.
“We might want to talk about it,” he told her.
“No need. We agree that the Howlers pack is where we want to live. We both know this is a dream come true for you. Why would we even think about turning it down?” Lizzy asked.
“I agree with Lizzy,” I told everyone. We smiled at each other.
“I still would like to hear what you say, even though it seems it has been decided,” Nash said to Bo. A big smile spread across Bo’s face.
“She isn’t wrong. It is a dream come true to become Gamma. I accept,” he said.
“I’m happy. This has been a good day,” I told Nash when they had left. He pulled me into his lap and kissed me.
“It has,” he agreed. “Let’s hope tomorrow will be just as good.”
