Chapter 157
Chapter 157
Jett
Shit, I wanted to plan something more romantic for when I proposed. I have had the ring that was my grandmother’s for quite some time now. My father gave it to me when he knew that Kitty and I were serious about one another, with strict instructions only to give it to the woman that I intend to spend the rest of my life with.
Kitty is that woman. She is THE only woman. Nobody else could ever compare to Kitty. I know it in my bones, in my soul and deep in my heart.
She turns her face to me, her lips part. I hold my breath I realize as I wait for her to say something. Anything. I mean, Kitty might have decided that the big M is too much and that she wants to be less formal about our relationship. After what her mother has gone through with her biological father, I can’t say I blame her.
Me, however, I want her to wear the diamond. I would love to see her walking down the aisle in white. Okay, Kitty might not be the woman who wears white, knowing my girl she might opt for scarlet or black even. Hell, I wouldn’t care. Seeing her dressed to meet me at the alter to take my name alongside her birth name, that is all that will matter to me.
“You want to marry me?” she asks quietly. I nod.
I squeeze her hand. “Of course I want to marry you, Kitty. You are my world, my everything. The last thing I see at night and the first I see in the morning. You are that ray of sunshine a dark, gloomy day. The rainbow in the sky. You are my other half, the part of my heart that beats.”
She smiles and damn it, her face radiates like pure Californian sunshine.
“Too soon, right?” I say losing confidence. And really, this isn’t how I planned it. What a dumb ass. I was going to wait until she was out of the cast and up and about again, properly healed. I wanted to take her somewhere high up to the mountain top where I’d have organized a whole cloth on the ground, a standing chandelier, candles, picnic blanket the whole nine yards. Not just after I savaged her slick pussy with my fingers.
My timing sucks!
Her face is tilted as she drinks me in. “How can I resist, of course I want to marry you. Yes, the answer is yes,” she says smiling and laughing. Wow, the rush of adrenaline that pumps through my body and the relief is insane. Not evening going too fast on my bike can compare to this huge rush.
“Are you sure, baby? I don’t want to rush you. I had a whole scenario set out to propose to you, but woman, I just need you to know how much I want to be with you forever.” Kitty takes a hand and places it on my cheek, I lean my face into the soft warmth of her palm.
“I like it better like this. Not saying you are not a romantic, because you are. But this, here like this, Jett this is us.”
She isn’t wrong there. The cabin, this retreat now our own place that we are making a firm home, this is us.
“You’re going to have to wait until my leg and hip are completely healed though. I am not walking down any aisle in plaster.”
We both laugh. Honestly, I can’t believe she said yes. A part of me doubted myself, that maybe she just wanted this to be for a long stint of fun and she would wake up like my ex did and take off. It will always stick with me for a while. Something like that, knowing the other person loves you wholeheartedly and wants to be with you forever, that is something that is going to take some time to sink in. I know Kitty is the woman for me. She is slowly rebuilding my shattered heart day by day and lifting me up. She makes me want to be a better man. I trust her implicitly with my delicate heart.
“We can wait as long as you like, Kitty-Kat. I have the ring right here in the cabin,” I say and before I can ask if I can get it to show her, she shoves me playfully.
“You have the ring already?” she squeaks making me chuckle.
I nod. “Go and get it, I want to see it.”
Kitty wriggles her panties to be back in place as I stand and rearrange my erection that is aching like a motherfucker. It can wait even if I have to have a hot shower and sort myself out. There is no way in hell, I am going inside of Kitty and hurting her more than she already is.
“Be right back, Kitten,” I say as I make my way to the back of the cabin and head for the stairs to the bedroom. Inside our main room, I head for my five-chest of drawers and open the top sock drawer. From the back, I take out the red box with gold cresting around it. I double check the ring is still in there. Which it has no reason not to be, but I don’t want to look like a fool if for some reason it isn’t. Presenting Kitty with an empty ring box would be more than mortifying. You ladies have no idea what us men go through in our minds.
Ever since my father gave it to me for safe-keeping, I have checked it daily to make sure it isn’t some kind of dream that I have my grandmother’s Cartier ring.
I close the drawer and head back downstairs, jumping the last two steps.
Then, I go to the sofa where Kitty is now sitting with her legs as close together as she can muster with the awkward cast on. I kneel down on one knee and hold the box up, then open it to present her with the two-carat, sparkling, Princess cut diamond on a platinum band.
Kitty places her hands to her blushing cheeks. “My God, Jett this is, this is stunning. I love it.”
I take the ring from the box, and place the box on the table behind me and slowly inch it on her ring finger. “It fits perfectly; how did you know what ring size I would be?” She stares down at it admiring it, then raises her hand to look at it glinting in the light. I have to admit it looks perfect on her finger.
“It was my grandmother’s on my father’s side. I took it in to the jewelers shop down town and one of your hippie rings and they resized it for me.”
“Oh, Jett. It is absolutely stunning. I love it. Did your father give it to you?” she seems to be in awe of it which fills my heart like an overflowing cup.
“Yeah, he gave it to me a little while ago, when he knew that I was serious about you and that he was confident you were going to stay here in Cali.”
Kitty takes me by surprise almost knocking me back when she lunges forward and wraps her arms around my neck. “I love you, Jett. More than anything in the world. Well and my mom, that goes without saying,” she says muffling into my neck.
“And I love you more, Kitty-Kat. You are my life, sweetheart. Whatever your heart desires you can have, sweetheart.”
We pull apart. “I have no idea how I deserve a man like you, Jett but truly you are my savior, my true guardian angel.” A lump forms in my throat.
“Kitty, you make me the happiest and damn proudest man alive. I can’t wait for us to start a family and see you with a child or two on your hip. By the way, I have some plans for the cabin to show you, we are going to extend to make you a bigger kitchen. We will want a nursery or two and I was thinking we could extend the room upstairs and make it into a master suite with a large, private bathroom. One of those deep, standalone tubs you love with a view to the forest.”
Her eyes mist over; the tears of joy gently roll down her face. “I don’t know what to say, Jett. No man has ever treated me like I am some kind of princess. I feel like I am in a Disney movie.”
Emotions overcome both of us. I gently wipe her tears away with the pad of my thumb.
“Get used to it, baby. You’re always going to be my princess.”
