World II: No changes

Seeing the face of that guy Rod Hart in the propaganda ads still makes me sick to my stomach. He smiles, and his face radiates calmness and a strange tranquility. He is being bombarded with nonsense regarding the predominant parties in the United States of America, but the man knows how to respond without making either of them look ridiculous. He's a damn smart guy.

I ask aloud if we can watch a documentary or a series on TV, but a significant portion of the workers present here refuse because they have been in "presidential elections" mode for a while now. This kind of passion usually doesn't happen even months before Christmas. What the hell?

I put on my headphones to distract myself with something I can find on YouTube, and, as if everyone is pretending to do the same to me these days, I receive a call. This time it's not from Dakota, but from Professor Chad. Isn't he supposed to be in class right now?

"Hello, Eron. I don't have much time because my students will be back in 10 minutes, okay?"

"O…k," I massage my temples.

"I received a letter. But it's not just any letter; this one is signed by Faven."

"Uh-huh. He sends a lot of letters. And what about it?"

"I told you I don't have much time, Eron. Listen to everything and then send me your questions," he orders sharply.

"As you wish," I mutter under my breath. I have to remind myself that I was the one who contacted him in the first place so I don't lose my patience.

"Faven hasn't been to North Dakota for months, Eron. Accept the video call request," he demands. I take a deep breath and comply. He then holds up a piece of paper in front of the camera. "This letter is handwritten and signed. How do you explain that, you unbeliever?"

I lick my lips. It's a habit I've developed these days, along with biting my lips. I really don't know what to say to this guy. But it's true that there's not much explanation for it.

"Maybe Liry wrote it to mess with you about the alternate worlds thing," I say finally.

"Ah, how unbelieving you are, Eron. Too much!" He waves the paper and points to several lines. "This is written in codes I don't understand! I'll take a picture and I hope you analyze it with a critical eye, Eron Montjoy. Don't be an unbeliever in the face of something that is very obvious! Liry hasn't come in two days and this appeared under my pillow. Ponder on that, little man. I'm almost starting my class. Goodbye."

He hangs up without giving me a chance to respond. I sip through my teeth, and I don't even get a chance to think about the revelation he just gave me because the notification on my phone tells me I have received the photo he promised me.

Damn it, how many letters will I have to read from now on? Every mind needs time to process things. Heavens. Besides, how hard is it to write on a computer? This is another handwritten letter.

"Hello, dear five. I took the liberty of making sure that this letter reaches your hands at the right moment. Did you receive T's letter? If not, this makes no sense and we made a miscalculation.

I have been writing so much in the past few days that my hand hurts a lot. So, I'll get straight to the point: I wrote this in October 2015. I don't know how long it will take to arrive, but if someone is reading this, it means it worked.

If you don't understand what five means, think about any strange reference that the number five has had in your life. If you're not five, it's unlikely that you'll understand this then.

There are people around you who don't want you to know things. So doubt, doubt a lot. You are steps away from discovering the truth you deserve to know. Be careful when you know it well. Okay?

I love you very much. I hope things are going well for you. We'll see each other in another universe or reality.

Farewell,

Faven.

Xoxoxo.

Kisses and hugs."

I want to believe that it's a fucking joke from Faven himself, but it doesn't make sense. It also crosses my mind that this Mr. Chad may have orchestrated all of this to convince me of his crazy theory, but that wouldn't explain the letter that also appeared in my bed a few days ago. Since when has my life become a mystery movie?

I decide to write to Faven just in case. Judging by the photo I'm looking at, it wasn't a scanned letter or anything like that, but I prefer… to doubt.

Doubt, doubt a lot. Yes. It's good advice, but it's applicable to any circumstance. It's nothing fantastic.

Eron (me): Hey, Faven. How's it going? Have you been writing these days?

It's very direct, and he might find that odd. However, I don't have much time to be thinking about what to write. My lunch break is practically ending and I have a session with Milton afterwards. My schedule is busy.

My leg moves with a certain desperation. These days I haven't been the epitome of patience. The coffee barely soothes my headache, and the seconds of waiting between one message and another seem endless.

Favie (XOXOXO): Hello! Very well. Thank you. I hope you're doing well too.

I almost bite my nails waiting for the message I really want to read.

Favie (XOXOXO): Actually, no. I've been busy these days. It all comes down to working and working. Haha. I'll wait until October 5th, maybe. The 5th is your lucky day. Woo. Why?

I know I'm pale, but if there's another level of paleness, that's the one I just reached. I start sweating cold, and the voices around me start to sound distant, and I feel the world moving too fast.

I think I scream. I don't even know what I'm saying. This is too strange for me.

I can't remember the last time I went through this episode because, although I usually faint, I don't feel so many things at the same time or hear so many dialogues at once. The feeling of suffocation overwhelms me to the point where breathing becomes difficult.

I hear more than one voice shouting my name, but I can't identify who it is. I feel my body weightless, and I hear something fall. Now I know nothing about myself. Did I ever really know anything about myself at any point in my life? I don't understand. I don't understand anything.
