Chapter 71 The Mistress's Child
At this time, Sophie and John's faces changed instantly. I looked at John with suspicion and asked curiously, "Is he calling you?"
Before John could respond, Sophie reacted quickly, squatting down awkwardly and reaching out to the little boy, saying, "You silly child, don't call him that. Your dad went to get the car! You should call him uncle, not dad!"
Then the boy's expression turned strange. He straightened his back repeatedly and looked at John with wide eyes, full of grievance.
At this moment, John pretended to be calm, coldly observing everything in front of him, but his face was somewhat grim, and his eyes were stern as he looked at the little boy.
Sophie got up, gripping the boy's hand tightly until their knuckles went white. Pointing at Bobby, she urged her child, "Hey, say hi to Bobby! He's in your school!"
Bobby clung tightly to me, staring at Sophie without saying a word.
John looked displeased, standing there indifferently.
Sophie, with a face full of smiles, nodded at John and me, saying, "Mr. Hall, Layla! Long time no see!"
"Long time no see!" I responded, laughing inwardly. 'It has indeed been a long time since we last met! And now, you have become my husband's mistress!'
Sophie looked at me affectionately and said, "Hey Layla, long time no see! I heard you weren't feeling well lately. I never got around to visiting you. Wow, you've lost a ton of weight. If I hadn't bumped into you here, I wouldn't have known it was you!"
"Yes. I was seriously ill, but I survived!" I replied with a smile, curiously staring at the little boy, and asked, "Is this your child? Are you married?"
Sophie pulled the child closer to her, swallowed, and reluctantly replied, "Yes, otherwise, why would I have resigned?"
"You resigned?" I feigned surprise and looked at John, "You never told me!"
John twitched his mouth as if it was a normal thing and responded casually, "You were ill at the time, so I didn't mention it. It was a long time ago."
The boy gazed eagerly at John, while Sophie, sweat beading on her nose, anxiously restrained him, fearing another outburst.
Intentionally fixed on the boy, I studied his features. Truth be told, he was rather handsome, with a fair complexion and a charming demeanor.
If he weren't the child of John's mistress, I would have liked him a lot.
I bent down, getting closer to him, and asked, "Hello, little boy! What's your name?"
Sophie instinctively pulled the boy and immediately answered, "His name is George!"
I praised with deep significance, "That's a great name!"
Sophie quickly glanced at John, who was still pretending to be serious.
Maybe John noticed that I kept staring at Sophie's child, so he finally couldn't help but say, "Why don't you catch up some other time? Layla is very tired from shopping today, and we were just about to head back."
Sophie immediately agreed considerately, "Yes! Layla, let's meet up another time! Seeing you makes me want to chat. I almost forgot you were ill."
"Take your time, no pressure. It's been years since we've met; I'd love to have a good chat. John, why don't you take the kids for some ice cream? George seems eager for it!" I glanced at John intentionally, awaiting his response.
