Chapter 69 Someone Tipped Off

This was quite a coincidence. I had just arrived, and he showed up. It seemed someone tipped him off, but his timing was perfect!

John walked in, saw our situation, and asked with a smile, "What's going on here?"

Before I could speak, Mary preemptively complained, "Layla just came over to take Bobby back without my permission. Given her frail look, can she handle looking after a child? Honestly, I doubt she can even look after herself!"

She spoke rudely, full of disdain, and began to accuse me harshly, without the slightest bit of the kindness she showed when talking to Sophie.

I remained silent in response to her words, simply observing coldly with a hint of a smile.

Mary glanced at me sideways and sneered, "Check out her getup; she's dressed like a beggar. Does she even remotely resemble a Hall family member? Can I rely on her to handle Bobby's return? That kid is still a little troublemaker, unlike..."

Mary abruptly stopped talking, glanced at me, and then regretfully looked at John, clearly realizing she had almost said something wrong.

I pressed, "Unlike what?"

I actually knew she wanted to say, unlike Sophie‘s son, who was a well-behaved child.

I secretly clenched my fists and stared at John's face.

John's eyes flickered noticeably, then he looked at Mary and said, "Mom, you're being a bit harsh. Layla just wants to see her child. She was sick for so long, and now that she's just recovered, she came to see Bobby because she missed him so much. She has the energy to take him back, so don't stop her."

I still maintained my smile as I watched them perform. Mary was acting naturally, and John was playing his role perfectly, like a scene from a drama.

John's image as the perfect husband and his warm and heartfelt words almost made me laugh out loud.

Even Mary didn't realize John's intention. She glared at John.

John immediately said to Mary, "Mom, To help Bobby pack a few clothes. We'll take him back for a few days. If it doesn't work out, we'll bring him back!"

Mary glared at John, about to say something more, but John quickly smiled and put his arm around her shoulder, "Don't worry. We still have a nanny at home, no problem!"

Only then did Mary put away her anger and turn to walk toward the room inside.

I was sure that John had hinted to his mom, which was why she obediently went to pack clothes.

But the next second, her voice came from the room, "John, come here for a moment."

John shrugged at me and comforted, "Wait a moment. I'll be right back!"

I watched his back as he walked in, snorted disdainfully, then looked down at Bobby, who had been standing woodenly by my side. I softly comforted, "Don't be afraid; Mom will take you home to play with Mason, okay?"

Bobby looked up at me with a hint of fear in his eyes but didn't speak.

I squatted down to be at eye level with him, gently pinched his little face with a loving smile, "Don't you miss me? I missed Bobby so much!"

His mouth twitched, but he still didn't speak.

I mumbled gently, "I was really ill before, just sleeping all day, completely clueless, had no idea Bobby was sent off to your grandma's place. Now that I'm on the mend, it's only right that Bobby comes back home!"

"Will sister come home too?"

Finally, Bobby spoke, and my nose tingled, almost bringing tears to my eyes. I nodded vigorously, responding with tears in my eyes, "Of course! Our whole family will be together!"

"Will you pick me up from school then?" he asked, scrutinizing me, a bit timid.

"Of course, I'll take you to and from school!" I couldn't help but kiss him, wanting to be close to him, "Do you want me to pick you up?"

He looked at me and nodded after a long while.

To be honest, I couldn't see any mischief in him; rather, I saw a bit of melancholy.

Just then, John came out dragging a small suitcase and said to Bobby, "Bobby, grab your backpack!"

Only then did Bobby let go of my hand, run over to pick up his backpack, and look up at John.

I always felt that Bobby seemed very afraid of John as if he wasn't close to him.
