Chapter 67 John's Generosity to His Mistress
I saw Bobby walk out looking dejected. When he looked up and saw Mary and Sophie, he didn't seem surprised at all, which meant Bobby was also quite familiar with them.
The first to run over was Sophie's son. The kid seemed very lively, with a fair face full of smiles, and like John, he had charming eyes.
He ran over first, stopped in front of Bobby, and looked up at him while talking.
Bobby didn't seem very cheerful, but he still smiled at Sophie and called out to her, then looked at his grandmother.
Mary, looking displeased, said something and then reached out to grab Bobby. Her expression was clearly different from when she had seen Sophie and her child earlier.
Bobby shook off Mary's hand and walked out with big strides. Mary said something to Sophie and then chased after Bobby.
I wanted to start the car, but there were too many parents picking up their kids, and I couldn't move.
At this moment, Sophie looked at Mary's departing figure with a raised eyebrow and a disdainful smile. Then, she took her son and greeted the parents around her before leaving.
My eyes followed their departing figures, and to my dismay, the next second, I saw Sophie and her son get into a Porsche 911.
I've always liked that car, but I thought it was a bit too expensive. As a housewife, buying such a nice car seemed a bit too extravagant.
Later, John said that to do business needed a good car to represent your image.
So I got John a Bentley, and his BMW was given to me. At the same time, the car I originally drove was used for household errands and given to Jane for grocery shopping.
I didn't expect John to be willing to spend money on a woman, but not on me, his wife, but on his mistress.
I found myself infuriatingly chuckling, not at others but at my own folly, observing the dispersion of the Baker family wealth far and wide. Ultimately, tears mingled with my laughter, almost shattering my teeth in the process.
Watching Sophie drive away in style, I snapped back to reality, started the car, and went straight to the Hall family's residence.
When I entered, I saw Mary sitting on the sofa, angrily scolding Bobby, who was standing obediently in front of her with his head down as if he had made a big mistake.
Mary halted her reprimand upon hearing a disturbance at the entrance, casting a glance in that direction. Upon spotting me, her visage transformed from perplexity to astonishment, leaving her rooted in speechless surprise.
When I walked up to her, she stammered, "What are you doing here?"
"Mary!" I called out with a smile, though I felt disgusted inside, "I came to see Bobby!"
"Aren't you sick? How come you look..." She pointed at me, not knowing what to say.
I couldn't be bothered with her. The scene at the school gate had already made me see through the true colors of this family.
"What's wrong, Bobby?" I walked over, squatted down, and reached out to pull Bobby over.
His expression was the same as Mary's: shocked and a bit stiff. When I touched him, he clearly resisted and struggled a bit.
I looked at him and softly whispered, "It's me! I'm your mom, Bobby!"
The scenario evoked memories of the surveillance footage I viewed, capturing Jane directing their attention towards me as I slumbered on the bed, uttering words that promptly dispersed them in fear.
"Bobby, I'm better now! I missed you, sweetheart!" I tried to soften my voice. I gradually tightened my grip and pulled him into my arms, gently patting his back. I could clearly feel his body relaxing progressively.
But I noticed his eyes were full of panic as he glanced at Mary.
In that instant, inspiration struck. I resolved to limit my children's interactions with the Halls and swiftly relocate them elsewhere.
