Zade
Score one for me. I could barely conceal the feeling of triumph that raced through my body as Sapphire disconnected the call. As I had hoped they had fallen short, and substantially too, for I knew if she had another choice or could have done it differently, she would not have called me. All last week I had waited, knowing it must not be me who reached out to ask whether she needed the donation. She had to call me first. And it had come to transpire that they did not need my money then I would have found another way to deal with Sapphire. One way or another she was going to be beholden to me.
I pressed the intercom and it crackled to life.
“Yes, Zade?”
“I have a Sapphire Stone coming by the office in a few minutes, Sandy. Could you please clear her with security?”
“Sure thing, Zade.”
Impulsively I added, “could you also have Derila deliver some refreshments?”
“Anything in particular?”
“Iced coffee, heavy on the cream in one of them.” Impulsively, I added, “And one of their donut assortments.”
“Got it.”
“While you’re at it, get me a couple of bottles of water too.”
“Your fridge is stacked, Zade.”
“Is it?”
“You’ve never checked or you would see that it is.”
I could hear the amusement in my secretary’s voice. I got up to check the mini fridge in the corner of the office and was surprised to see that she was right. I laughed.
“What kind of robot are you?”
“The kind that knows what you need before you need it. It’s my job to make you happy.”
“Thank you, Sandy.”
“No problem, Zade.”
I ended the connection and turned around to look out at the skyline. Sandy’s cues of being interested in a much more meaningful relationship than that of boss and secretary were becoming more obvious. She was a genuinely nice, curvy woman with long, thick hair, blue eyes, and well-toned legs that were almost always on display in the short skirts and dresses she wore. Apart from the color of her eyes and mouth, she was Sapphire to a T.
Even putting my own personal office romance taboo issue aside and the simple fact that I would only be losing a very efficient secretary eventually, to date Sandy would make me feel like I was trying to replace Sapphire by finding a near duplicate. But the thing that bothered me most was the weird, but unshakeable feeling that I would somehow be cheating on Sapphire. It shouldn’t be an issue as not only were we no longer an item, but we both hated each other.
Still, the strong feeling remained.
I glanced at my watch. While Sapphire and I were dating, I’d never invited her to my office. I think it was some perverted sense of loyalty to Randy. Didn’t want to rub it in his face. So this would be the first time she was going to see me in my work space. I shook off the feeling of anticipation and reminded myself that her visit was business, not pleasure, and the whole purpose was to exact my revenge.
I got busy rearranging the papers on my desk. I had to remind myself this meeting was strictly business. I was not waiting for my lover. I was waiting for the bitch who so ruthlessly betrayed me.
Even after all the pep talk, I almost jumped out of my skin at the knock on the door.
“It’s only me,” Sandy said, as she walked in wheeling a cart filled with the stuff I had requested. She looked at me as though she could see my thoughts and found it amusing.
“Thanks, Sandy.”
“No problem. Should I send Miss Stone straight in when she arrives, or do you want to keep her… waiting for a bit?” she raised one perfectly arched eyebrow.
I frowned. Was I really that transparent? “No, you can send her straight in. Just buzz me on the intercom first.”
She smiled. “Sure.”
Sandy swung her ass as she turned to leave. I watched her figure retreating and felt nothing. Not even a twitch of interest. Then I got up, went to the cart, and lifted the lid on the tray. The donuts smelled warm and looked soft. I wondered why I got them? I wanted to punish Sapphire, not treat her to her favorite sweet. I picked up the platter, walked to the bin, and watched the donuts tumble into it. It was a strangely satisfying feeling.
Maybe, I was getting over her after all.
I went back to my seat and pulled out a notepad and jotted down my thoughts for a new project I was about to embark on. When the intercom crackled to life, I pressed the button.
“Yes, Sandy?”
“Miss Stone is here to see you.”
“Good. Show her in.” I leaned back in my chair and waited for the door to open. First Sandy, then the woman behind her came into the room.
To see them standing side by side made the physical resemblance even more striking. But sexy Sandy with her tight blouse stretched across her bosom with hints of her full cleavage, coupled with her long legs, was no match for the sensible button-down shirt that Sapphire wore which hung loosely and only hinted at the ample breasts I knew were there. Her slacks were loose and only cinched in at the waist with her belt to give any indication of her shape.
Sandy’s hair flowed from a high ponytail atop her head while Sapphire’s was in a bun at her nape. Sandy wore a full face of make-up while Sapphire looked like she had barely swiped some lip gloss onto her lips.
But still, it was the woman on the left who made my cock jump to life and thicken, and my body ache. Damn you, Sapphire. Four years of longing welled up inside me in an instant, and I wished for nothing more than to wipe away the last four years and pick up where we had left off with our relationship.
I tore my eyes away from Sapphire and looked at Sandy, who had been watching me as I stared at Sapphire. I detected a slight hardness to her mouth and tone.
“Thank you, Sandy. That will be all.”
She nodded and gave Sapphire one more look before she left the office. As the door closed behind her I turned my attention to Sapphire once more. I stretched out a hand, indicating one of the empty chairs in front of my desk.
Without a word she sat.
I regarded her for a few moments before standing and walking over to the cart. I took up the iced coffees and handed her one. She looked up at me and I felt as though I was being sucked into the depths of those hypnotizing hazel eyes. My mind went back to the many times I had stared into those eyes and dreamed of the future…
Her face was deliberately expressionless and she was careful not to let our skin touch, but her eyes widened as she took a sip of the coffee. I could see it in her eyes that she was caught off-guard by the fact that I remembered how she liked it.
