By the Same Scissors
Dimitri called Boris's cell phone several times, but got no answer; it seemed it was turned off.
When the head of security informed him that Boris had picked up Laura for lunch, he was initially about to order her detention, but wanting to avoid an argument, he let them go.
Upon arriving at the mansion, he was greeted by utter silence; the housekeeper was asleep in her room next to the kitchen. Dimitri went upstairs to look for Laura in her room, finding it empty.
Perhaps instead of returning to the mansion as she should have, she had decided to stay at her grandfather's house without his permission.
He hurried down the stairs, the housekeeper had woken up and was standing by the kitchen door.
“Where is Laura?” he asked in a tone that frightened the poor woman.
“I don’t know, sir, she hasn’t returned since she left with Mr. Petrov,” she said, her voice trembling.
“Damn it! I'll look for her wherever she is and bring her back here myself.”
He stormed off towards the Petrov mansion, perhaps Boris had once again done as he pleased without taking him into account, taking her back with him.
Boris was already asleep when Dimitri, after searching the entire mansion for Laura, burst through the bedroom door. Had his son not received any education at all?
"What way is this to present yourself in front of your father?" Boris already knew what his son was there for, but preferred to play dumb.
"Where is Laura? I want her in front of me right now."
"I suppose she's at the Cassini family mansion, her grandfather is in poor health, and he asked me to leave her there. I left her outside the mansion and left."
"You left her outside the mansion! Without supervision, how could you?"
"I didn’t know you were keeping her under surveillance, I thought she was your wife, not your prisoner. Forgive me if I was mistaken."
"That’s none of your business."
He turned around, slamming the door as he left the mansion, Boris shook his head from side to side.
Before going for Laura, he had stopped for the divorce papers he had previously requested from his lawyer, and before the girl got on the plane, he asked her to sign them and an agreement where she waived her rights.
Boris was an old wolf, and he would not allow part of his son’s fortune to be handed over to that girl; it rightfully belonged to Yulia. Now, he would find a way to deliver those documents to Dimitri for him to sign.
This way, he could marry Yulia immediately. As Boris remembered what he had done, Dimitri arrived at the Cassini mansion.
He rang the doorbell frantically, as if he were a schoolboy.
"Who dares to knock on the door at this hour, and in such a manner?" Sarah came to the door in a bad mood.
"Dimitri!" she was surprised to see him, "I understand you're dying to see me, but this is an inappropriate time. You'll have to wait to see us in the morning at the office."
The girl smiled, biting her lip trying to look provocative.
"Where is Laura? Tell her to come out, right now!" he shouted, not caring about anything else, just wanting to take Laura away.
"Laura left as soon as she arrived in the afternoon; the grandfather kicked her out, so she hasn't come back."
"I don't believe you at all, I'll go up for her and drag her out if I have to."
He quickly climbed the stairs, checked every room in the mansion without finding her, and finally entered the grandfather's room.
The grandmother was sleeping in an armchair next to the bed.
"Mr. Petrov, what are you doing here?" the grandmother didn't understand why he entered with such an attitude into the room of a sick person.
"Tell Laura to come out; she's leaving with me right now, or I won't be responsible for my actions. I'm capable of burning down this house with all of you inside," he lied trying to instill fear, and by the terror reflected on the grandmother's face, he had succeeded.
"Laura isn't here, she left a few minutes after she arrived," Dimitri was going to reply, but the grandfather woke up amid the commotion.
"Who are you? How dare you burst in like that into my house."
"Who am I? I'm Laura's husband, and I came for her to take her home," Dimitri answered, pressing his lips together. In the past, he had had a good relationship with Laura's grandparents, but that didn't matter now.
"Laura's husband? She remarried that fast, the wayward girl."
The grandfather became immensely upset upon hearing that.
"Call her; we are leaving right away."
"So, you are the lover for whom my granddaughter betrayed Luke Lombardo, you are a scoundrel."
The machine to which the grandfather's body was connected started to emit intermittent beeps, the old man clutched at his chest.
The grandmother ran out to call the doctors who were asleep at the time.
Dimitri felt guilty for having burst in that way.
"Get out of here, can't you see you're upsetting him," shouted the grandmother upon returning with the doctors.
"I'll wait outside," he said, ashamed of his terrible behavior. Sarah, who was coming up at that moment, stayed with him in the hallway.
Minutes later, the grandmother's screams of pain clearly indicated that the grandfather had passed away. Dimitri's face contorted; he had practically killed the man by upsetting him in such a manner.
"Don't feel guilty; the grandfather was old, he didn't have much left to do on this earth," Dimitri looked up to see Sarah, who acted as if nothing had happened.
There was no doubt, this girl shared the same blood as Laura, they had wickedness ingrained in their souls, they were cut from the same cloth.
"Don't look at me that way, I prefer to be practical, and realistic under these circumstances.
Crying and screaming like a madwoman won't bring the grandfather back, dead is dead."
Dimitri turned away from Sarah, a heavy pressure settled in his chest. Laura would hate him even more for this, and although he wanted to make her suffer, his hatred hurt him more than he wished it would.
He returned to his mansion, clueless about Laura's whereabouts, he ordered his men to search for her.
"Don't you dare come back here without her, understood?"
"Yes, sir," answered the head of the bodyguards.
A couple of days later, they still hadn't found her. Sarah had hurried the grandfather's funeral, wishing to end it once and for all, besides, she was burning with impatience for the will to be read.
Dimitri showed up at the burial thinking he would find Laura there, but despite his search, he couldn't find her.
"What are you doing here? Murderer!"
The grandmother yelled at him in front of the people present.
"Ma'am, I..."
"Don't you dare say you're sorry, take your hypocrisy elsewhere, wretch."
The sweet grandmother had completely transformed, plus she feared Dimitri might have harmed Laura, because she had been unable to locate her. She knew that despite the estrangement, Laura would suffer upon learning about her grandfather's death.
Meanwhile, Laura, unaware of what was happening, had settled into a beautiful little house by the beach in a distant place, hoping to soon be able to bring her grandmother to join her, as soon as the grandfather recovered.
