Trip

She was fed up; this time she wouldn't stay silent. That woman was going to hear her.

"Listen to me carefully, I am Dimitri's wife whether you like it or not. Either you give me the medicine right now, or I'll make sure you get fired immediately."

"Haha, as if the boss cares about what might happen to you, let alone firing me just because you ask."

"You know we've been sleeping together since last night. You probably have no idea what a woman is capable of at that moment. I mean, I don't think you know, because a woman like you doesn't have a partner."

"You're a..." The woman raised her hand to slap Laura.

"Enough! Don't you dare touch her. Like it or not, she is my son's wife until they get divorced. I don't know when you started taking liberties that don't belong to you."

Boris had overheard the argument and approached immediately.

"I'm sorry, sir, I found this woman snooping around."

"I was just looking for some medicine for my sick grandmother."

"If she's sick, I'll call the doctor to come and check on her."

"Thank you."

Laura went up to her grandmother's room to wait for the doctor. She had the impression that she might be able to persuade Boris to help her escape if Dimitri didn't grant her a divorce. He didn't mistreat her, but she knew he didn't agree with her being married to his son.

Dimitri, in front of Yulia, had breakfast in complete silence, unable to get Laura out of his mind.

"I'm going on a trip," he said without looking up.

"Can I come with you?"

"No, it'll be just men traveling."

"When will you be back?"

"I don't know, Yulia. I'll be away for a few days, maybe a week, as long as necessary."

"Alright, I wanted to ask you a favor. You know I never ask for anything."

"Tell me."

"Could you lend me some money? I have issues with my bank, all my cards have been blocked, and I need to make some payments. I'll pay you back as soon as it's sorted out."

Dimitri immediately took out his wallet and handed her a golden card.

"Use this, pay for whatever you need. It has no limit. When I return, I'll get a card for you from the bank. I'm sorry, I should have done it a long time ago. During my illness, you were by my side. You deserve much more than this."

Yulia felt excited; her money troubles had been resolved. She no longer had to resort to stealing food to feed her parents. Finally, Dimitri was acknowledging everything she had done for him.

"Thank you, my love. It's not necessary to request one for me; I only need it while the bank sorts out my issues," she said, pretending.

"I said I will get one for you, and I won't accept you refusing. You will also change your car."

Yulia wanted to jump for joy, but logically, she couldn't do that. If she was supposed to be a millionaire, it didn't mean much to her.

"After breakfast, I'll ask the driver to take you to the car dealership. Choose whichever you prefer; you know the price doesn't matter. I can't accompany you to pick it up; I have to return to the corporate office as soon as possible."

"Don't worry, my love. I know you're a very busy man."

In the evening, when Dimitri returned to the mansion, he called Laura to his room.

"I'm sorry, but tonight I can't stay. My grandmother is sick, and I have to take care of her."

"I'll call the doctor."

"Your father has already done that. Thank you."

"Tomorrow, we're going on a trip. Don't worry; your grandmother and your son will stay in another house. That way, Yulia won't be able to bother them. A nanny and a nurse will stay with them, along with some bodyguards."

"Please, I want to stay. My grandmother needs me by her side."

"No, I want you ready early in the morning."

Dimitri turned to enter the bathroom, and Laura returned to her grandmother's room. She didn't want to accompany him, but she knew she couldn't do anything. If she didn't obey, he would take her by force.

"Is something wrong, dear?"

"I'll be going on a trip tomorrow. I don't want to leave you in this condition, but it's necessary for my work. Luke and you will stay somewhere else; you'll be more comfortable."

"Alright, dear, don't worry about us. We'll be fine."

The grandmother realized what was happening. Laura avoided discussing the matter with her out of shame. Little Luke raised his hands and approached his mother to be picked up. She sat in a chair and sang him a lullaby until he fell asleep. Dimitri, passing by, heard her singing.

How could such an empty and malicious woman change so much when she was with her son? He remembered when she told him about her pregnancy; he felt like the happiest man in the world. Now, every time he saw her with that child, it felt like a dagger piercing his chest.

He would have given everything for her. He wanted to surprise her by announcing that he would hand over the company to his cousin to dedicate his time to her and their son. He had earned enough money over the years to make it happen.

Additionally, with the monthly income from his shares, their future would be secure. However, he never had the chance to tell her. She couldn't wait one more day after the wedding to get rid of him and run into the arms of her lover.

He clenched his fists, grabbed a bottle from the table next to the bed, and drank directly from it. He wanted to forget the pain he was feeling. Laura deserved to pay for her betrayal with death.

But the love he felt for her prevented him. His stubborn heart refused to forget her. It was a mix of love and hate that tortured him every day.

In the morning, he woke up with a terrible hangover. He took a quick shower, then left the room with his luggage. When he descended, Laura was already waiting for him in the living room, accompanied by her grandmother and their son.

Laura, upon seeing him, lowered her gaze. This man made her feel like falling from heaven straight into hell. Dimitri, in turn, felt like he might still be dead and in purgatory when he saw her. That woman made him have thoughts worthy of the worst serial killer at times.

Sometimes, he imagined a thousand ways to torment her in the most perverse manner. Other times, his imagination compelled him to get up in the early hours and immerse himself in freezing water to calm the desire that consumed him when he remembered the nights of passion with her.

And that made him even more furious because she had no idea of the torment happening in his mind.

Yulia was a beautiful woman, and he desperately wished to fall in love with her, to pour out the passion that was consuming him onto her being. But he couldn't bring himself to try, afraid of being ridiculed and appearing impotent.

"Are you leaving, son?" Boris asked, observing the luggage.

"Yes, father. I'll be back in a few days."

"You know what you're doing. I just warn you not to harm Yulia. That girl doesn't deserve it after everything she's done. She sacrificed years of her life by your side when you were in the worst condition."

"I don't need you to remind me. See you later."

Dimitri left in a hurry. The grandmother followed him with the little one in her arms, while the butler and two maids from the staff followed him with the luggage. Laura let out a deep sigh. As she was about to follow them, Boris stopped her with an imposing voice.

"Laura, wait."

"Tell me, Mr. Petrov."

"I know you don't love my son, that you're not happy by his side. I don't know why he clings to having you around. I'll help you escape. During this trip, think about it. I'll give you a significant amount so you can live decently with your grandmother and your son, but it has to be far away."

"Sir, I..."

"Don't answer me now, just think about it."

Laura nodded. Then, Dimitri yelled for her.

"What were you doing? I'm here waiting."

"Sorry, I just went for some water."

She lied as Dimitri scrutinized her. He got into the car next to the driver, while Laura climbed into the back of the vehicle with her grandmother and her son.

They headed towards a house on the outskirts of the city, in the southernmost part. It was a secluded place with surveillance all around. Inside, a nurse, a nanny, and two staff members were already waiting to attend to them.

Laura thought that at least Dimitri was a man who kept his word. It was difficult for her to say goodbye to her loved ones, and she had no idea where they would be traveling.

"Go with God, daughter, and don't worry about Luke. As for me, I woke up much better this morning."

Laura hugged her grandmother, then gave a kiss to her son. Dimitri thought she was exaggerating; they were only going to travel for a few days.

"Wipe that face, it's not a funeral. You didn't look like this even at your husband's funeral," he said as soon as he sat next to her in the car. Laura found his comment in poor taste.

They headed to the airport, and the flight would be on a private jet. Once on board, Dimitri focused on his laptop, reviewing some contracts. It seemed like he didn't notice the overt flirting from the flight attendant.

Sitting at a distance from him, Laura discreetly observed how the girl tried her best to capture the attention of the coveted millionaire.

"If you've finished serving what I asked for, you'd better leave, or I'll ask them to open the door to throw you out. Your presence is bothering me too much," Dimitri growled, scaring the flight attendant. Laura, far from being scared by his tone, covered her mouth with her hand to stifle a giggle. The expression on the girl's face amused her.

Hours later, they landed. Laura still had no idea where they were. A handsome guy was already waiting for them, smiling at Laura.

"Welcome, madam. I hope the island meets your approval."

Dimitri didn't greet him; he just shot him a hostile look as he walked past. All the courtesy shown to Laura didn't sit well with him.
