Chapter 2145 2155
Chapter 2145 2155
"Rest assured, regardless of everything, we are your seniors. We have zero interest in whatever scraps you juniors managed to scavenge," Garry said with a faint, mocking smile. "Of course, you'll definitely die at our hands eventually—just not today. Even though you've reached the Permanent-Tier now, you're still far too weak. Bullying you right now wouldn't even be sporting."
Liam stared at the two men with piercing intensity. He let out a long, heavy breath and demanded, "What... exactly are you people planning?"
Garry looked at Liam, the rigid expression on his face softening into a trace of mild sentimentality. He shook his head and said, "You'll understand in due time. Before the Eight Great Powers are utterly wiped out, you'd better grow stronger as fast as you can."
"The Eight Great Powers? You think you can wipe them out?" Leo scoffed, entirely unconvinced.
"The Eight Great Powers? Back in the day, they were nothing more than dogs kept at our heels," Garry said, shaking his head with an air of absolute disdain. "We gave them a few thousand years to develop, and in the end, they're still nothing more than a bunch of pathetic, paper-thin chickens and dogs. Utterly worthless."
Leo felt an intense urge to plant a fist right square in that smug bastard's face.
At that moment, Garry’s gaze drifted past Liam to the rest of the group. A look of mild surprise crossed his features. "Oh? A Plague characteristic, a Life characteristic, a Prophesy characteristic... Tsk tsk, it seems the Law of Rare Characteristic Convergence really does hold true. More unique and ultra-rare characteristic holders are gathering around you. How fascinating!"
"You can actually see people's characteristics?" Stella blurted out, her voice laced with renewed shock.
"Well, obviously I can't just look at you and know," Garry chuckled, shaking his head again. "Naturally, since I can wipe your memories, reading them is just as effortless."
Watching the way he spoke, Liam shared Leo's exact impulse to punch him straight in the teeth.
Still, he knew better. Right now, their current lineup stood zero chance against these two monsters.
Fortunately, Garry and Garry's companion didn't seem to have any immediate intentions of making a move against them.
That realization let Liam breathe a quiet sigh of relief. He desperately wanted to interrogate them about why the Underworld Palace was invading Earth, but doing so would inevitably leak intel about Earth—including his own origins.
Even though he had grown quite close to Stella and the others, he still preferred to keep those secrets guarded.
More importantly, he had a strong hunch that even if he asked, Garry wouldn't give him a straight answer anyway.
Drawing in a deep breath, Liam asked flatly, "Bella is in your hands, right?"
"That's right." Garry didn't bother denying it. He replied with chilling calm, "Don't bother trying to rescue her; you'll never find her anyway. She's perfectly safe right now."
"Her father has come to the Myriad Tribulation Star," Liam stated evenly.
"What does that have to do with me?" Garry retorted coldly.
"Alright, no more wasting time with these kids. We've got business to attend to, so let's get moving," Garry's companion chimed in, shaking his head with a light chuckle. "Keep working hard and grow up quickly, kids!"
With that, the two men seemingly lost all interest in continuing the conversation. They turned around and strolled deeper into the corridor.
Once their figures vanished down the dim hallway, Stella finally released a long, shaky breath. "Damn it, Liam, what is going on here? How do you even know these monsters from the Underworld Palace? And judging by the looks of it, you guys go way back! What the hell did he mean by all that?"
Liam shook his head. "We're just as in the dark as you are."
It was true. Even though they had run right into Garry, the actual exchange had been sparse, and Garry had revealed next to nothing of substance.
Except for one glaring takeaway: they held absolute, spine-chilling contempt for the Eight Great Powers.
"Let's get out of here first," Liam said, his voice dropping into a serious register.
Stella didn't need to be told twice. She was more than ready to put as much distance between them and those two freaks as possible, terrified that the senior powerhouses might suddenly change their minds, turn back, and flatten them all with a casual flick of the wrist.
And even if they didn't kill them, having their memories wiped clean all over again was a nightmare nobody wanted to experience.
Meanwhile, as Liam and his team retreated toward the surface, Garry and his companion continued marching deeper into the bowels of the Promise Corporation ruins.
The companion shook his head as he walked, muttering, "Those little brats are maturing a lot faster than we anticipated. If we keep letting them roam around, they're bound to become a massive headache down the line!"
"So?" Garry glanced sideways at him. "What do you propose?"
"How about..." The companion stopped in his tracks, spinning his folded fan against his palm with a sinister grin. "We double back and wipe them out right now? That little girl hiding her face behind a veil still has plenty of secrets locked away in her head. I'm actually quite curious about her, though her current state makes a full memory extraction a bit tricky."
"Let's wait until Tim returns before we make any moves," Garry replied, shaking his head. "We don't know what his ultimate plan for them is."
"Say, do you think the place where Tim has been slumbering is really our old home?" the companion asked curiously.
"Who the hell knows!" Garry grunted dismissively.
Conversing casually, the two figures descended deeper and deeper through the layers of the Promise Corporation facility, moving with an eerie, practiced familiarity as if they had built the place themselves.
