Chapter 193: The Dark Force Awakens
Chapter 193: The Dark Force Awakens
Brenda’s POV
It was a calm night. The clearing was covered with lengthy shadows as the campfire flickered. The Moonstone felt slightly warm against my hands as I sat with it in my hands. It was my only source of strength.
Lila knelt next to me and whispered, "Brenda, you need to relax."
I gave a headshake. "I am unable to. There is a problem. I sense it.
A chilly breeze that was powerful enough to extinguish the fire swept through the camp before she could respond. We were completely engulfed by darkness.
I stood slowly, whispering, "Lila."
The area surrounding me was illuminated by the Moonstone's faint glow. At that moment, I noticed two bright eyes in the trees.
A voice resounded, gentle yet piercing like shards of glass. "Pass the stone to me."
I went cold. As the shadows shifted, a tall man covered in black mist emerged. Even though its face was veiled, I could feel its hunger tearing at my soul like claws.
"Who are you? I made a demand while attempting to speak steadily.
The head of the figure cocked. "The person who will put an end to your fate." Turn in the Moonstone, or your pack will perish.
Lila took hold of my arm. “Don’t listen, Brenda! "
Feeling the Moonstone's pulse on my flesh, I tightened my hold on it. I said, "You'll never have it."
The figure made a hollow, icy laugh. "Strong words for a weak person." Do you believe you can keep them all safe? "
The earth shuddered. Trees were crushed like twigs by dark tendrils that sprang from the ground and wrapped around them. One swung at Lila, who shrieked.
"No! I raised the Moonstone and yelled. Tendrils were sliced through by a flash of silver light. With a hiss, the shadowy creature withdrew, its smoke curling.
It said, "You've become stronger." But you can't stop the future. I own the moonstone, and my power will rise along with the eclipse.
I snarled, "Remain away from my pack."
The creature laughed slowly and cruelly. Even the person you love cannot be protected. I already own him.
I gasped. "Damian," I said.
The figure disappeared into the darkness before I could move, and the woodland fell silent once more. The clearing was only illuminated by the Moonstone's dim glow.
Lila held on to me, trembling. "What was that thing, Brenda? "
My pulse thumping like a battle drum, I looked into the darkness. "I'm not sure," I said. However, it is aware of Damian. Additionally, the eclipse
"What eclipse? Lila inquired.
The Moonstone's warning flickering light caught my attention. "Lila, there's going to be something big. Additionally, time is running out.
A wolf howled in the distance, low and long, a death-warning cry.
Fear and rage twisted throughout me as I gripped the Moonstone tighter.
Hold on, Damian. I will come get you.
One thought, though, froze me to the bone in the silence: What if it's already too late?
Breathing heavily after the last battle, I made my way down the dim hallways while chains clinked. Even though my wounds burned, I continued. There was a muffled wail somewhere up ahead.
I accelerated, slamming against the chilly stone walls. I noticed Mira, one of our youngest warriors, when I got to the cell door. Her face was white with terror as she was fastened to an iron post.
"Damian? Her voice trembled as she whispered.
With a quick swipe of my blade, I broke the lock and declared, "It's me." "Are you in pain? "
With tears running down her cheeks, she shook her head. "I believed that I would never be able to leave."
I cut her ropes and added, "Not on my watch." "Come on. We must relocate.
However, heavy footsteps reverberated down the hallway before we could move. The walls were covered with shadows, and a harsh voice snarled:
"Traitor, are you going somewhere? "
When I looked around, I saw three enormous enemy guards brandishing black steel knives.
I raised my blade and whispered, "Mira, stay behind me."
With his blade whizzing through the air, the first guard lunged. I countered and blocked, hitting his side. The others closed in, but he yelled and fell.
I spun, narrowly avoiding one that sliced at my chest. The other guard hit me from behind, and I felt pain go through my arm. I clenched my jaw and swung forcefully, severing his body.
I was knocked to the ground as the final guard charged. His sword was just inches from my throat, hovering above me.
"Damian! Mira let out a scream.
I took the guard by the wrist and drove my blade into his heart with a shout. He collapsed, dead. Breathing heavily, I shoved him away.
"Are you alright? I questioned Mira.
She gave a shaky nod. "Yes, but they said something, Damian."
I scowled. "What? "
She swallowed hard. "They said." "Everything will end with the eclipse. Brenda will be taken during the eclipse.
My blood froze. "What? "
She gave a nod. They are pursuing her. The key is her.
I balled my fists, my rage burning brightly. "Therefore, we are short on time."
I grasped Mira's hand. "Remain near me. After we leave this place, I'll make sure Brenda is never touched again.
However, the walls started to tremble as we dashed through the dim hallways. There was a rumbling, deep laugh.
Damian, do you believe you can stop fate? The harsh, heavy voice could be heard everywhere. "I'll have the moonstone. Brenda will also break.
We were left in the dark when the torches flickered out. Mira shivered and held on to my arm.
"Damian," she said in a whisper. "How do we proceed? "
I gripped my blade more tightly as I looked into the darkness. "We fight," I stated in a steely voice. "No matter what."
One idea, nevertheless, raged inside: Brenda—wait a minute. I'll be there.
Then we heard footsteps behind us. Slow. Heavy. Approaching.
