Chapter 189: Prophecies Of Twin

Chapter 189: Prophecies Of Twin
Brenda’s POV

I sat with the Moonstone in my hand, gleaming dimly, close to the tunnel's edge. Even though I was far from the temple's ruins, the weight of what I had witnessed was pressing down on my chest. One heart for one. I couldn't stop talking.

I opened the book with the silver binding once more. The pages turned themselves, shimmering as though alive, until they came to a halt at a page with illuminating letters on it. I said the phrases out loud while tracing them with trembling fingers:

"The twins' bond will end the war when blood and moon align."

"Twins?" I scowled. As the following line blazed onto the page, I gasped:

"They will bring the broken packs together and reestablish the lost throne, for they were born of love and shadow."

I looked. "Born of shadow and love..." It stung how fiercely my heart hammered. Could it be Damian and me?

I said quietly, "No," and closed the book. "Not right now. I must first locate him.

The words still troubled me. Twins. Our kids? Did the prophecy suggest that the conflict would end with them rather than with us?

"Brenda."

I spun around and jumped. It was the healer Mira. After coming so far to find me, she appeared worn out, and her face was pale.

I hurried to her and said, "You shouldn't be here." "It's too risky."

She took hold of my arms. "I had to show up. The packs are agitated. Some people don't think you'll come back. Others—they intend to select a different Alpha.

My chest was burning with anger. "Give them a chance," I responded icily. "I'm returning. Alongside Damian.

After a moment of hesitation, she took a piece of parchment adorned with symbols from her coat. In the remnants of the former council hall, I discovered this. I believe it has something to do with the prophecy.

I picked it up and set it next to the silver book. The symbols were identical. The symbols illuminated as I pushed the Moonstone against the parchment, creating a map that showed a trail that wound through black mountains and ended at an eye-shaped mark.

I mumbled, "The Door of Shadows."

"Yes," Mira said. "But Brenda..." She looked into my eyes. According to the prophecy, the selected must sacrifice everything. Are you prepared for that?

I balled my fists up. "Yes, if saving Damian and our people is the goal."

Dust began to fall from the tunnel walls as the ground shook abruptly. My heart leapt. "What was that?"

Mira's face turned white. "There will be something. Something significant.

As the tunnel grew darker and the shadows began to move like a storm, we both turned. A murmur twisted across the atmosphere:

"What has already been written cannot be contested."

My blood froze. The figure in the silver cloak once more?

"Run, Mira!" Pulling the Moonstone high, I yelled. Though the shadows were pushed back by its blazing light, they continued to approach, writhing like snakes and hissing with voices that made my bones tingle.

"Brenda!" Mira sobbed.

"Leave!" Even as the shadows rushed forward, I let out a scream. I prayed for strength while holding the book close to my chest. The words of the prophecy lingered in my memory:

"The war will be sealed by the twins' bond."

What if that were the case? What if my destiny was to give life rather than to live?

The world burst into black as soon as the shadows hit, before I could think any further.

With fire-like eyes, the shadow giant towered over me. Despite my trembling legs, I tightened my hold on the silver dagger. "Go," I snarled.

The creature laughed instead of moving. It was like thunder splintering through the sky. Then it lunged.

Its claws crashed into the earth, sending rocks flying, but I rolled away in time. My shoulder ached, but I pushed myself to stand and charged. Its arm was cut by my sword. Smoke hissed from the wound, but instead of falling, the giant shouted, causing the mountains to tremble.

It snarled in a voice as deep as the ground, "You won't get to her."

"Observe me!" I yelled and jumped once again, piercing its chest with the dagger. The blade broke in my hands as the light burst, only to be sucked up by darkness.

"No!" Gasping, I staggered back. I flew through the air and crashed onto the rocks as the giant swung its arm. I was screaming with pain.

For a second, everything was spinning. My imagination flashed to Brenda's face as her voice called my name. Keep trying.

I pushed myself to stand. My mouth was dripping blood, but I didn't mind. "I haven't finished yet."

The giant's head turned abruptly toward the horizon as it raised its claws once again before stopping. There was a change.

The moon, rising like an open wound, was the source of the blood-red radiance that swept across the sky. The Moon of Blood.

With teeth like obsidian shards, the behemoth smiled. It starts with the prophecy. The heart will shatter.

"No," I said.

The giant was sucked into the earth by the split ground before I could move. There was silence, but it wasn't tranquillity. A voice slithered into my ear as the Blood Moon grew brighter:

"She's close... as well as the finish.

I staggered past the shattered stones till I came to the path. A route that is dark and illuminated by silver runes leads directly to a tall black arch. The Shadow Door.

Despite the pain and the blood soaking my clothes, I ran. I arrived at the door and pushed my fingers against its surface, breathing in frantic gasps. The chill crept into my bones as it throbbed like a live creature.

"Permit me to pass," I said. "Please."

There was a scream of shadows as the door shook and opened.

I froze after stepping through.

She was there. Brenda. In the midst of twisting shadows that hissed and coiled like serpents, she was on her knees, holding the silver book. In her hand, the Moonstone glowed feebly, its light nearly extinguished.

"Brenda!" I yelled.

Her head jerked up, and her eyes widened in relief and terror. "Damian—"

Before she could finish, a gigantic monster emerged from the shadows as they pushed upward. The ground trembled under its voice:

"Tonight, the bond will break."

After that, the door behind me banged.
