Chapter 102
Three days of non-stop fighting.
The Richardson crew took down six five-mutation zombies and a bunch of four-mutation ones.
Even Monroe and the whole squad hit their fifth evolution!
Even Number Zero, who usually stayed in the background, turned into a five-mutation zombie.
But, thinking about the Red Cloak Zombie and Amon, those two sixth-tier baddies, no one dared to let their guard down, despite their progress.
In just three days, they cleared the fourth floor of the building!
Efficiency came with a heavy dose of exhaustion.
But under pressure, the team chose to ignore their fatigue.
"Richardson, good night."
Since moving from the eleventh floor to the eighth with Monroe, Iris finally got some decent rest, and her mental state improved a lot.
Not that it mattered much, Richardson had been too busy fighting to think about anything else.
"Good night, good night!" He waved goodbye to Iris, watching her and Monroe head off.
Jasmine quietly got up, gave Richardson a nod, and went back to the ninth floor.
Sure, the eleventh floor was fancier.
But the eighth and ninth floors were still pretty luxurious, so it wasn't a big deal.
"Jasmine. Don't train at night for a bit. Get some rest. We might need to move soon." Richardson stopped her before she left, reminding her.
He hadn't been to Karen or Lily's rooms lately, but he could hear the sounds of fighting from downstairs.
Clearly, Number One and Jasmine weren't taking it easy just because of the daytime battles; they were training even harder.
"Got it." Jasmine nodded.
When it came to stress, she and Number One were probably the most wound-up in the group.
Number One, being Richardson's most loyal servant, didn't want to see his master in danger.
But facing Amon and the Red Cloak Zombie before, the pressure from those two was intense.
Protecting Richardson was tough, and even surviving was uncertain.
So, Number One was definitely on edge.
His extra training made sense.
As for Jasmine, influenced by Number One, she had taken on the knight's code, dedicating herself to being Richardson's guardian knight!
Her mindset was almost identical to Number One's.
Whenever she felt her combat skills were lacking, she'd seek out Number One for training, trying to unlock the potential Richardson had helped them develop.
"We've got a real shot at winning, just trust me." Worried Jasmine was too stressed, Richardson added.
Hearing that, Jasmine's face lit up with a smile.
"Okay! I'll go rest now. See you tomorrow." She waved and ran back to the ninth floor.
In the living room, it was just Richardson, Anna, Karen, and Lily, the original team members.
"We really have a chance to win."
Karen compared the strengths of both sides. If, as Richardson and Iris speculated, the other Lords' followers were all enemies of Amon, they wouldn't team up against them.
Even if they had to face Amon and the Red Cloak Zombie at the same time, everyone now felt confident enough to fight."We do, but it's not a sure thing. Do you know what kind of special abilities the Red Cloak Zombie gets after mutating? And besides Amon, we don't even know the innate magic of the other followers. It's not smart to act recklessly," Richardson voiced his concerns.
When everyone hit their fifth evolution, Richardson thought about going back to Avery High School to take on the Red Cloak Zombie directly.
He didn't tell anyone about this plan. Instead, he just opened his pocket watch, stopped time, and went back to the school to check things out.
What he found was mind-blowing.
On the teaching building, the Red Cloak Zombie was staring intently in the direction of the cafeteria.
At the cafeteria entrance, Amon was facing off against three Lord followers all by himself.
From their positions, Richardson noticed that the three Lord followers had left the direction of the teaching building open.
This led him to a quick conclusion: the follower with the Bullhead mask might already be dead! And those three fifth-tier Lord followers might have teamed up with the Red Cloak Zombie.
But if that was true, Amon shouldn't still be alive.
So, the most likely scenario was that the Red Cloak Zombie had the ability to control humans.
However, this power required the opponent's mental or physical strength to be weaker than the Red Cloak Zombie.
So it killed the Bullhead mask follower because he was also sixth-tier.
After controlling the three Lord followers, it didn't attack Amon but kept him in the cafeteria, not letting him leave.
The goal was to control Amon after it completed its seventh mutation!
Thinking this through, even Richardson found it hard to believe.
It was too crazy!
How could a zombie be that smart?
But after seeing it with his own eyes, Richardson went back and thought it over again and again, finally coming to the most reasonable conclusion!
Even if it sounded far-fetched, it was the most realistic!
"Let's wait a bit longer. After taking down three more five-mutation zombies tomorrow, I might be able to complete my evolution. Oh, and let Lily take care of the little Candle Dragon tonight. You should bond with it; its time control ability is perfect for your assassination skills," Richardson said, looking at Lily who was feeding the little Candle Dragon.
Last night, after everyone completed their fifth evolution, Richardson finally managed to hatch the second Dragon Clan hatchling and got a new dragon-human transformation form. He could now start incubating the third Dragon Clan hatchling.
"I still need quite a bit more. The weapon I forged for Iris this time requires a lot of genetic energy. But this also proves that I can directly fuse weapons with Magic crystals inside my body to create Magic weapons. I still need the energy of about four or five more mutated zombies to finish this Godslayer Bow," Karen said, handing a piece of jerky to Lily.
Luckily, the team had previously killed several invading Demon Beasts and turned them into jerky.
Otherwise, in this world with only humans and zombies, they might have had to feed the two Dragon Clan hatchlings canned food to satisfy their craving for meat."How long can the food last? After dealing with Lord Dragon and the Red Cloak Zombie, we might have to head to the Battlefield World. Also, Helen mentioned she hopes we can visit the Demon Beast civilization soon. That mysterious Divine Tree should bring us a lot of benefits," Richardson continued.
Lily finally got a chance to chime in, "Don't worry, our relationship is already great! Little Red really likes me!"
After Lily spoke, Karen added, "The food can last about half a month, then the dragon hatchlings will need meat. And Lily, don't just name them randomly. Should I call my little black dragon Little Black then?"
Anna, holding a cat, suddenly laughed at this.
"Little Red, Little Black, sounds pretty good. Iris mentioned that the two leaders of the Struggle organization use red and black as their code names."
They were discussing serious matters but couldn't help laughing.
Hearing that the food could last another half month, Richardson thought for a moment, then lay down on the sofa with his legs up.
"As for the names, you can discuss it when you have time. But let's skip Little Red; it's a bit disrespectful to the Dragon Clan. Lord Dragon might get mad if he hears it!"
After a day of battles, everyone could finally relax, and Richardson really enjoyed this kind of light-hearted exchange.
"How about I take care of naming these two little ones, what do you think?" Helen volunteered.
She no longer thought about bullying the two little dragon hatchlings. Spending time with them, Helen even felt like they were her younger siblings.
"No problem, as long as they both agree," Richardson said casually.
He wasn't great at naming, as you could tell from the names Number One and Number Zero.
The little black dragon, munching on meat, stood up and made a sound.
It seemed to approve of Helen naming him.
"Master, look, even the little black dragon agrees. Karen and Lily probably won't refuse, right?" Helen said, shaking her head and smiling.
To her, naming the 'Dragon Clan,' the most terrifying enemies in Demon Beast civilization history, would be a memorable and historic event. Helen was determined to earn this honor.
"Of course, clever Helen will definitely come up with nice and imposing names, right?" Lily was the first to support Helen's proposal.
Karen also chimed in, "Then it's up to you, Helen. Otherwise, always calling them Little Black Dragon, Little Candle Dragon, it doesn't feel very intimate!"
The four team members chatted away.
Suddenly, Richardson looked out the window, an inexplicable sense of foreboding washing over him.
It seemed like fate never gave Richardson enough time to fully prepare for facing powerful opponents.
Would this time be any different?
On the first floor of the hotel, there was a sudden sound of a wall being broken through!
Almost instinctively, Richardson stood up and looked at the three team members.
"Indeed, something unexpected has come!"
Without saying much, Richardson immediately changed into his battle attire and mentally commanded Number One and Number Zero to rendezvous with Jasmine first and then Iris.
"I'll go down and take a look first!"Handing the little Candle Dragon to Karen, Lily grabbed the dagger from her waist. She didn't have time to change clothes and stealthily went downstairs in her pajamas!
At this moment, as an assassin, she was the best choice for reconnaissance.
"Don't rush," Richardson wanted to stop Lily, knowing he could easily use his pocket watch to teleport downstairs and check things out himself.
But thinking that everyone had made progress and were no longer the fragile girls he needed to protect before, Richardson refrained from stopping her.
"Master, there's a trace of Magic. It might be Amon," Helen cautiously spoke as she sensed the commotion downstairs.
Upon hearing her words, Richardson instantly had a vague guess in his mind!
If it was Amon, did his desperate escape from the cafeteria mean that the Red Cloak Zombie was about to complete its seventh mutation? Wasn't that too fast?
If it was so easy to mutate seven times, wasn't it ridiculous that Lord Dragon and the others spent years becoming seventh-tier Sorcerers?
So, was the genetic plan the true answer for the future of humanity?
A series of question marks didn't delay Richardson's actions.
He quickly put on his clothes and rushed to the stairwell.
Below, Number One and Number Zero had already met up with Iris, Monroe, and Jasmine.
"Richardson, Lily went downstairs first, should we follow her now?" Iris spoke, not worried that the intruder downstairs would come up looking for trouble upon hearing their voices.
With the current configuration of the team, even if Amon came, she was confident she could kill him again!
This time, there would be no chance for Amon to escape.
"Let's go!" Glancing back to make sure Anna and Karen were ready, Richardson decisively gave the order.
The group swiftly passed through the stairwell and rushed to the first floor.
"You've arrived," Amon said, leaning against the wall on the first floor of the Golden Karen Hotel. Despite his severe injuries, he managed a faint, sorrowful smile.
Although he looked severely injured, Richardson could sense that this guy still had fighting power!
"The mighty follower of Lord Dragon, how did you end up in such a sorry state?" Iris looked at Amon, her eyes devoid of any sympathy, but filled with killing intent.
For the people of the Struggle organization, all followers of the creators were targets to be eliminated!
"Sorry state? If it weren't for this sorry state, I might have already become a servant of that zombie and come here to kill you myself! Just a friendly reminder, it's about to arrive. You'd better find a safe place. Don't be..." Amon didn't finish his sentence as a red figure suddenly appeared on the first floor of the hotel.
Under the gaze of Richardson's team, the figure suddenly grabbed Amon by the neck and lifted him up!
Around this red figure, there were three masked men.
"The Red Cloak Zombie, is it cooperating with the followers of other Lords?" Iris exclaimed, urging everyone to step back!
"No, it's not cooperation. Its special ability is to control humans. It seems like it's about to mutate for the seventh time! This guy Amon escaped here because he probably discovered that it's about to mutate for the seventh time and wanted to cooperate with us!" Helen's reaction was the quickest, and she directly, with a confident tone, spoke out all the speculations Richardson had made before!
