Chapter 221: The Beginning of Forever

Chapter 221: The Beginning of Forever
Fifth Avenue, New York.

The first flagship store for the "Evelyn" independent brand was opening today. Professor Hayes stood at the center of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.

"Professor," Evelyn said, bowing slightly.

"Drop the formalities," Hayes huffed, though he couldn't hide his grin. "You’ve been through the fire, Evelyn. You have more talent than I ever did. Keep going."

Snip.

The red ribbon fell. The crowd cheered.

Sophie and Ethan pushed through the crowd. Sophie had just announced that her studio would partner with "Evelyn" for a "Childhood Innocence" charity line, with profits going to art education.

"See that?" Sophie nudged Ethan. "My name is right there next to hers. I finally did it."

Ethan smiled and tucked a stray hair behind her ear. "Yes, you did. You're the best."

Ryan stood on the edge of the crowd, holding their one-year-old daughter, Madeleine. Elias, in a tiny suit, held his hand. Little Madeleine was currently chewing on Ryan’s expensive tie.

"Daddy, I want to cut the ribbon too," Elias said.

"That’s Mommy’s stage," Ryan knelt down. "A man’s job is to cheer from the sidelines. We only go up there if someone tries to ruin her day. Then we hit them. Got it?"

Elias nodded seriously. "I'll hit them!"

After the chaos came the peace. To celebrate, Ryan canceled a week of work and flew the family to a private island in the Caribbean.

The sun warmed the white sand. Evelyn lay on a lounge chair, sunglasses covering half her face. Nearby, a shirtless Ryan—showing off his lean muscle—carried Madeleine on his shoulders while Elias hunted for crabs in the shallows.

"I got one! I got one!" Elias’s scream carried over the wind. Ryan laughed and hoisted his son high, tossing him into the water with a splash.

Evelyn watched them, her heart full. There was a time she thought she’d rot in the mud of high society—betrayed, shamed, and imprisoned. But now, the sun was real. The love was real.

"Ryan," she called out.

"Yeah?" Ryan walked over and used a towel to brush sand off her legs.

"Let’s get married."

Ryan froze. "We’re already legal," he said, his voice a bit raspy.

"I know." Evelyn wrapped her arms around his neck, pulling him close. "I mean a wedding."

The proposal in the vault had been unforgettable, but they had been in the middle of a war. Then came the baby and the business.

"Okay," Ryan agreed instantly. "Where? Paris? London? Or right here? I'll buy the ocean if you want."

"No," Evelyn shook her head. "New York. Central Park. Where our story began."

Central Park was a sea of flowers. Not roses, but thousands of purple irises, lining the path all the way to the altar.

Evelyn wore a gown of her own design. No massive train, no thousands of diamonds. It was a minimalist mermaid dress with silver-threaded patterns—the binary code of her first designs.

Professor Hayes sat in the front row, wiping his glasses. Sophie cried so hard she ruined her makeup on Ethan’s suit. Elias stood like a little man, holding the ring box. Little Madeleine, who had just learned to walk, was chasing butterflies on the grass.

Ryan stood at the altar. He watched Evelyn walk toward him. It had taken years to cross this distance. From a black umbrella in the rain to the ruins of a factory, to this sunlight.

Evelyn stopped in front of him. The priest began the traditional vows, but Ryan raised a hand.

"I don't need the script," Ryan said into the microphone. His voice echoed through the park. "Evelyn, you are my weakness and my armor. You showed me the world outside the abyss."

Ryan knelt, taking the sapphire ring from Elias. "I, Ryan Lawrence, vow to give you every bit of my wealth, power, and life. As long as my heart beats, you will always be my treasure."

The park went silent. Evelyn looked at the man kneeling before her, her eyes wet with joy.

"I do."

As the ring slid onto her finger, thousands of white doves took to the sky. The sound of applause and cheers drowned out everything else.

The struggle was over. The light had finally won.
