Chapter 138: The Truth About the Pregnancy
"At-fault..." Evelyn repeated the words quietly, her fingers tightening on the bedsheets. Then, she remembered something. She leaned forward, grabbing Ryan’s arm. "There’s something else. Something important."
Ryan took her cold hand in his. "I’m listening."
"When I was at the orphanage..." Evelyn gritted her teeth against the disgust of mentioning the name. "Sienna called Damian. She told him she was pregnant."
"Pregnant?"
"Yes. She said it’s been a month." Evelyn let out a cold laugh. "But Ryan, isn't that too convenient? Just as Damian was kneeling to beg for my forgiveness, a child suddenly appears?"
"And..." Evelyn’s gaze sharpened. "She faked a pregnancy to frame me before. Could this one be a lie too?"
If it were a lie, it was fraud. If it were true... it was proof of Damian’s infidelity, enough to tear away his "victim" mask in court.
"We’ll find out soon enough." Ryan pulled out his phone and dialed his assistant. "Check every medical record for Sienna Marlow. I want to know if she’s actually carrying a Green heir."
Less than ten minutes later, the assistant called back. Ryan put it on speaker.
"Sir, I found something. Sienna has been visiting the downtown hospital’s OB-GYN department frequently. But..."
"But what?"
"All her records are under high-level encryption. Unless we have her consent or a court order, even the hospital director can't access them. This type of encryption is usually only used by powerful families to hide scandals or protect heirs."
Ryan hung up, a mocking smile on his lips. "Encryption? That’s basically a confession. If it were a normal pregnancy, why hide it? There’s something dirty in those files."
Evelyn nodded. "The timing is definitely suspicious."
"Then we’ll help her along," Ryan said, standing up. "I’ll have people watch her. If it’s fake, the truth will come out eventually."
Meanwhile, at the Omni Group headquarters.
Sienna was curled up in Damian’s arms in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows.
"Honey, did you see the comments?" Sienna giggled, tracing circles on Damian’s chest. "Sophie’s video was a total bomb. Everyone believes Evelyn is a shameless slut and Ethan is her lover."
"Even that old woman Hayes is losing her contracts." Sienna looked up, fishing for a kiss. "By the time we go to court, she won't be able to escape the 'at-fault' label."
Damian looked down at the woman in his arms. She was beautiful, young, and full of ambition. But as he looked at her face, twisted with smugness, a sudden wave of intense annoyance washed over him.
For some reason, an image of the old Evelyn flashed in his mind. Not the cold version he saw now, but the one who used to wait for him at home with a hot meal and a light on, no matter how late he was. The Evelyn who suffered in silence and never acted like a vicious predator like Sienna.
"Damian? Are you listening?" Sienna pouted, shaking his arm.
Damian snapped out of it, pushing down his irritation and a sliver of regret he didn't want to admit.
"I’m listening," he said, placing a hand on Sienna’s flat stomach. "You did well. You saved the company’s reputation."
"Of course. I’m fighting for our future," Sienna said proudly. "Not like that woman who only brings you trouble."
"Right..." Damian’s gaze was complicated as he looked at her belly. "As long as it’s a boy, I can satisfy the board."
His hand moved over her stomach, but his touch was cold. Sienna noticed his distance. A woman’s intuition told her that Damian wasn't as happy as he seemed. He was looking through her, at someone else.
The realization made jealousy burn through her. Even after her reputation is ruined, she still holds a place in his heart?
"Damian, after the baby is born..." Sienna started to ask for a formal title, but the heavy office door was suddenly thrown open.
Bang!
They both jumped. Octavina Green walked in, wearing a deep purple designer suit. Even with the bandage on her face, she looked as overbearing as ever. Two lawyers with briefcases followed her.
"Mother? What are you doing here?" Damian stood up, awkwardly letting go of Sienna.
Octavina didn't even look at her son. She sat on the sofa, her sharp eyes scanning Sienna before landing on her stomach. It wasn't the look of a grandmother; it was the look of a merchant inspecting goods.
Sienna felt a chill. She instinctively covered her stomach. "Aunt Octavina..."
"Stop that act," Octavina interrupted coldly. "If you’re carrying a Green, stand up straight."
She pulled a document from her Hermes bag and tossed it onto the table.
"I won't waste words," Octavina said, leaning back. "I don't like you. You’re low-class and not good enough for Damian. But, since you’re pregnant, things have changed."
Sienna’s heart skipped a beat. Greed flickered in her eyes. Octavina pointed at Sienna’s belly with a hand adorned with a massive emerald ring.
"If you give birth to this child, and it’s a boy, I will give you a fifty-million-dollar trust fund and a villa in Long Island."
Octavina leaned forward, locking eyes with Sienna.
"And if you help me destroy Evelyn so she leaves with nothing... on the day the baby is born, I will have Damian marry you officially."
"The title of Mrs. Green will be yours."
Sienna’s breath hitched. Her hands began to shake with excitement. Mrs. Green. The dream. The ticket to the top of the world.
"Is that... true?" Sienna’s voice was barely a whisper.
