CARA
Liam has been really busy lately. Laura and I have been keeping each other busy. He said they are working on expanding the company to other countries. I love how he calls me every time he has a moment to himself. I'm getting used to seeing my name and face all over different blogs. Of course, I've been looking. One of the things I want to stop doing so badly.
Thank God I have a clean slate and no skeleton to hide.
It's a Wednesday evening for heaven’s sake and Laura is spending the week with Fiona’s parents. Who could be knocking on my door? Besides, Liam wouldn't be back until tomorrow.
What does Liam’s father want from me this time around? I question as I see him through the eye hole. I hesitate before opening the door.
“Good day sir.”
He ushers himself inside before I even ask him in.
“I'll just go straight to point.”
As you always do. I almost responded
“I see you refused to heed to my warnings.”
“I love your son. I couldn't help myself.”
“The Ace’s are very annoyed and so am I. What’s this I hear all over the news that you are now Liam’s girlfriend. You must have forgotten the contract you signed. Now I’m starting to see what the Delon Ace talked about. What if you were behind Fiona’s accident?
“Is this a joke? Why in the world would anyone suggest I killed Fiona ?”
“Do I pass as a comedian? You must have sent that driver to kill her so you can wiggle your way back into Liam’s life knowing fully well that he will bow at your feet at a snap of your finger. How much do you want? I’m trying to be nice here.”
“I don’t want your money. I love your son and I didn't have a hand in Fiona’s death. Why would I want to see him in pains when I truly love him?”
“ That's a question for you to answer. I'm too busy to exchange words with you. Here’s the contract you signed. The universe must have known this day will come. I tried to compensate you for your worries but clearly you don’t need it. Have a good day.”
“Why do you hate me so much?”
“I don’t hate you. I’m just a businessman”
“At the expense of your son’s happiness?”
“He wouldn’t be happy if he was poor or never finished business school.”
“Please I beg you. I don't know what's in the contract but please help me talk to Mr Ace. I love your son. I can't do without him. Please.”
“This is beyond my control. You've survived without him once, you'll do it again. You can always start over in another country. He won't be back until tomorrow so I suggest you pack a few things and leave before he gets back.”
“A second time? It will break him and Laura.”
“They'll be fine eventually. Goodnight Cara. You don't want to make things difficult for both of you by staying till he comes around.”
“I'm not going nowhere. I don't care if you sue me, I'm not leaving Liam.”
“Suit yourself. I'm way nicer than Delon Ace and he is a co signatory to the contract you signed.”
“Please Mr Johnson.”
“Choose wisely.” he says shutting the door behind him.
I quickly pick up the document and read through it.
Cara Rufus will at no point in time see or have any relationship with Liam Johnson. I skip to the repercussions of going against the contract and once I see how grievous the consequences were, I wail even harder. Why would Mr Ace go as far as breaking alliance with the Mr Johnson and making him pay such huge amount of money for damages? Do you want this grievous punishment for yourself ? And think about how this can affect Liam’s life.
I’ve wept so badly I don’t even know if I have any tears left in me. Mr Ace was trying to play safe. He would never have pictured his daughter dying at such age. What if I beg him? Can you hear yourself? It’s been years since his daughter died. He shouldn’t have any issue if she’s not in the picture. Mr Johnson specifically emphasised his anger on hearing the news. You are the last person he’ll want to see.
I’ll go and beg him. They are still grieving. It’s their only child they lost. It’s understandable if they are yet to heal. I’ll let him know that I have his granddaughter’s best interest at heart and would assure them that I’ll care for her as if she was mine.
