LIAM
“Good morning sweets.”
“Good morning baby. It’s so early.”
“It felt like I was dreaming so I had to be sure this is for real.”
“Hey boyfriend.”
“Good. It’s real. Sorry I called so early. Blame it on my rush of adrenaline. I’ll see you in the morning.”
“See you soon baby.”
I am so happy. I’ll have to branch at mother’s place to tell her the good news when I go pick up Laura later in the day. From the bathroom, I hear my phone consistently buzzing non- stop. I hope Laura is okay. I pick up my bathrobe and stroll towards where my phone is laying.
It was a picture of me and Cara from yesterday on a blog with the caption ‘Billionaire’s college sweetheart back in town and caught seen in his arms.’ Most of the messages coming in were screenshots from the blog asking me if this is true.
Cara was looking so dashing in the sexy green dress she was wearing. It wasn’t revealing yet something about about the dress was screaming hot. I ignore all the messages and head back to the bathroom. I’m not surprised as to why everyone is so eager to find out. I haven’t been with anyone since Flora passed.
I hope Cara handles it well. A couple of people who knew her from school would want to get in touch with her. Paparazzis’ wouldn’t hesitate to start running after her. The bell from the door downstairs brought me out of my train of thoughts.
“Baby are you okay? You look worried.”
“One second no one knows me, the next my face is all over social media and there are so many hateful comments about me. People went ahead to dig out my life history.”
“I’m sorry about the hateful comments. Give it a little bit of time. They’ll get tired.”
“I don’t even know how to show up at work today.”
“I’m my arms will be the perfect way to.”
“Babe, it’s not funny. You are so used to this fame thing you seem very unbothered.”
“If you let them get to you, you’ll eventually die of frustration or depression or both. Ever since we became partners with Ace, I’ve become used to it.”
“I hope I make it home back in one piece.”
“You will, you’ve got me. Babe you look so beautiful in the picture. That’s a plus to at least make you feel better.”
“That I totally agree.” She says smiling.
“I’ll go get dressed. I don’t want to be late.”
“You won’t because I’m taking you to work so be ready in like twenty minutes.”
“Do you think that’s a good idea?”
“The best idea. I’m not going to allow you walk this path alone.”
“Thank you babe. I love you.”
“I love you more.”
The day wasn’t as bad as I thought it will be. Asides from the swarm of paparazzi’s standing in front of the building, there was no drama in the office. A few snickers here and there but that was all. Grateful for underground parking lots and back doors. Got into the building without any hassle. I drop Cara off at home abd head to mother’s place to pick up Laura.
“Daidi.” Laura says happy to see me.
“Where’s grandma?”
“She’s is in the kitchen.”
“Where’s aunt Cara?”
“She at home baby.”
Mother strolls out with a pan of baked muffins.
“It smells so good in here.”
“Someone looks very happy.” Mother says teasingly.
“You must have seen it.”
“It’s all over social media son. There’s a huge difference. I’m happy you are happy. I’ve longed for this day.”
“Thank you mom for bringing her back home. She makes Laura happy too.”
“I’m glad she makes you all happy.”
“Mom?”
“Yes son.”
“Did you have this all planned out?”
“I don’t know what you are talking about. I was only trying to help my friend’s daughter.”
“That smile on your face says otherwise.”
“Okay fine. I wanted you to be happy and she used to make you happy hence my reason for suggesting she returns back to Dublin just maybe sparks can fly again.”
“Thanks mom, this means a lot to me.”
“How’s she dealing with the outburst on social media?”
“She’s not taking it so well. Doesn’t your husband take breaks?”
“With time, she’ll get used it. I’m worried about your father. He’s been acting strange for quite sometime now.”
“How do you mean?”
“He has become overly ambitious and Insensitive. He is always at your father-in-law’s beck and call. I know he helped us and all but he needs to stop ordering your father to show up for their company everywhere in the world. It’s a joint business. He should also represent the company from time to time. Moreover, I get really lonely sometimes.”
“Have you spoken with him?”
“I have talked about being lonely all alone in this house. He said he’ll book us a trip for a getaway next month. I love your father but ever since he merged with Ace, he treats them above every other person including me.”
“I’ll have a word with him.”
“How’s work going? I can’t believe you agreed to take your medications without the whole country bowing at your feet. I must commend Cara on that one.”
“You are being too dramatic. I used to take my medications when Flora was alive.”
“She was a nurse and your wife. You didn’t have a choice.”
“I have to go. Not without living with some of those muffins.”
“I’ll pack it up for you. Give me a minute.”
I smile remembering how hell bent I was making Cara’s life miserable. I was so selfish that I didn’t for once sit to think that she might have ended things with me because of her mother’s circumstances. That would have been a lot of pressure on her mentally and emotionally.
“When next you visit, come along with Cara.”
“Aiye captain.”
“Good night grandma.”
“Good night my love.” She says as she runs and gives her a hug on the leg.
You can she’s really sad about Laura living.
“Laura and Cara will drop by to spend the weekend. I have a business trip on Friday.”
Her face brightens up immediately.
“That’s a lovely idea.”
