Chapter 119

Chapter 119

Scarlett's chest heaved violently. She pointed toward the door, her voice cold and final, leaving no room for negotiation.

"Brandon, we're getting divorced. First thing tomorrow morning, I'll have my lawyer deliver the papers to the Robinson Group. For the rest of my life—even if I die—I will never have anything to do with you again!"

Scarlett took a step back, her eyes sweeping over the nightstand where her portable medical kit sat.

With lightning speed, she yanked open the zipper and pulled out a bottle of high-concentration anticoagulant she'd brought home from the lab.

An overdose of this drug would continuously destroy the body's ability to clot, triggering unstoppable systemic internal bleeding.

"Scarlett, what are you doing?!" Brandon sensed something was wrong and lunged forward.

Scarlett poured out a handful of white pills. Without even bothering with water, she threw her head back and swallowed them all. The bitter taste immediately flooded her mouth.

Brandon knocked the bottle from her hand, pills scattering across the floor.

He grabbed her jaw in a vice grip, trying to force her to spit them out, his eyes bloodshot and wild. "Are you insane?! What did you just take?!"

Scarlett's head was forced back. She stared at Brandon's panicked, contorted face and pulled her lips into a mocking smile.

"Right now, my blood is full of anticoagulants." Her voice was soft as a breeze, yet each word cut like a knife. "Do you dare put this blood into Elizabeth's body?"

Brandon's entire body went rigid, his blood freezing in his veins.

The drug took effect fast.

A sharp pain tore through Scarlett's stomach. Her vision went black. She looked at Brandon's face as it blurred before her eyes, then her body went limp and collapsed.

"Scarlett!" Brandon caught her falling body.

The black Maybach tore through Imperial City's freezing winter night like a maddened beast, racing at breakneck speed to Haven Healthcare Hospital.

The emergency room light flicked on.

Brandon stood in the corridor, Elizabeth's blood on his coat, Scarlett's cold sweat on his shirt.

He leaned against the icy wall, his hands trembling uncontrollably.

He had never felt such panic. The look of absolute resolve in Scarlett's eyes as she swallowed those pills—it was like a dull knife slowly carving into his flesh.

Rapid footsteps echoed from the end of the hallway.

The emergency department director pushed through the door, pulling off his mask with a grave expression. "Mr. Robinson, your wife ingested a massive dose of anticoagulants, causing acute shock. We've performed gastric lavage, but the drug has already entered her bloodstream. She's in a deep coma right now and needs immediate transfer to the VIP intensive care unit for observation."

Brandon's vision went black. His tall frame swayed.

Just then, a nurse in scrubs rushed out of the elevator, clutching a report, calling out excitedly to Brandon, "Mr. Robinson! Good news! The emergency shipment of RH-negative blood from another city just arrived by air! Ms. Perez is saved!"

The hallway fell deathly silent.

Brandon stood frozen. The blood had arrived.

Right when Scarlett had swallowed anticoagulants without hesitation to sever his last thread of hope—when she lay in the emergency room, life hanging by a thread—Elizabeth's lifesaving blood had arrived.

A crushing sense of absurdity and regret engulfed him instantly.

What had he done? For the sake of some supposed savior, he had personally driven his own wife to the brink of death.

Brandon's throat was so dry he couldn't make a sound.

He watched as Scarlett was wheeled out. She wore a breathing mask, her face paler than the white sheets, utterly lifeless.

"Take Scarlett to the top-floor VIP room." Brandon's voice was terrifyingly hoarse. He turned to the bodyguards and head nurse behind him, his tone brooking no argument. "Assign two nurses to watch her around the clock. If she wakes up, notify me immediately."

The head nurse nodded repeatedly.

Brandon stood by the elevator, watching Scarlett's gurney disappear from view.

He closed his eyes, forcing down the dull ache in his chest, then turned and headed toward the operating room in another building.

He had to confirm Elizabeth's condition and put an end to that mess once and for all.

Half an hour later, the door to the top-floor VIP room swung open.

Sophia entered quickly, leaning on her cane with Carl supporting her.

Sophia hadn't even changed out of her nightgown—just thrown a heavy mink coat over it. Her face was ashen with fury.

Carl had already reported every detail of what had happened.

Sophia looked at Scarlett lying in the bed, tubes everywhere, and tears immediately welled up in her eyes.

She touched Scarlett's icy hand with heartbreak, trembling with rage. "What a sin! How did the Robinson family produce such a bastard like Brandon!"

Steady footsteps sounded in the corridor.

Ethan walked in wearing a dark gray trench coat, his expression cold and stern. As one of Phoenix City's top medical figures, nothing that happened in this hospital escaped his notice.

Ethan approached the bedside, checking Scarlett's vital signs, his brow furrowing tightly.

"Mrs. Sophia Robinson." Ethan turned around, looking directly at Sophia with sharp, determined eyes. "Scarlett can't stay with Brandon anymore. This isn't a marital spat—this is driving her to death. Today she swallowed anticoagulants; tomorrow she'll slit her wrists."

Sophia closed her eyes, tears sliding down her wrinkled cheeks.

How could she not see Scarlett's death wish?

Brandon's obsession and misplaced guilt had become chains binding Scarlett. He wouldn't stop until he drove her insane.

"Ethan." Sophia opened her eyes, her gaze turning razor-sharp and decisive. "Take her away. To your private medical center, or anywhere Brandon can't find her."

Ethan paused slightly.

Sophia gripped her cane, her voice ringing with finality. "The Robinson family owes her. I'll repay that debt. Since Brandon doesn't know how to cherish her, I'll personally cut off his delusions. Arrange her transfer immediately. If anything goes wrong, I'll take responsibility!"

With Sophia's approval, Ethan didn't hesitate for a second.

He immediately called his independent laboratory, dispatching the most professional medical team and a private ambulance.

Ten minutes later, Scarlett was secretly transferred out of Haven Healthcare Hospital.

Elizabeth's surgery was successful. She'd received the transfusion and her life was saved.

Brandon stood outside the operating room, listening to the doctor's report, but felt no relief whatsoever.

His mind was filled with the mocking look in Scarlett's eyes as she collapsed.

He turned and strode toward the top-floor VIP room.

The moment he pushed open the door, Brandon froze.

The bed was empty—no Scarlett, no breathing equipment. Even the sheets had been changed to fresh ones.

Only Sophia sat in the center of the room on a leather sofa, both hands resting on her cane, staring at him coldly.

An extremely ominous feeling seized Brandon's heart.

"Grandma." Brandon strode in, unable to hide the panic in his voice. "Where's Scarlett? Where did she go? The doctor said she wasn't out of danger yet!"
