Chapter 26 CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX
CLAYTON
"You're bleeding."
I hate stating the obvious but right now it's the only thing I can say as I watch my Alpha wipe blood from the corner of his lips.
"Should I assume that your visits are not going well?" I ask when he doesn't respond.
He glares at me and tries to walk away but I step in front of him.
"She obviously punched you hard enough for you to bleed. My question is, why didn't you see the punch coming? I'm not asking about what you did."
"Drop it Clayton." He says, as he shoves past me and walks to the door.
He stops at the door, takes a deep breath and turns.
"If you can, leave her door open. She wants to talk to the witch."
He opens the door and walks away before I can say anything.
"What do you mean, if I can? She will kill me to get out!" I yell after him but he's long gone."
I try to connect him through the mind link but he blocks my attempts. I groan in frustration and try to come up with a plan to free our feral captive.
I slowly make my way down and open her door. Since I'm going to let her roam free, I might as well have a conversation and find out if I'm getting gravely injured in the near future.
She's sitting on the bed, looking angrier than I've ever seen her. Her eyes don't leave the wall she's staring at, but I know she knows I'm here.
"I brought breakfast, sorry for the delay."
It's a danger being in here. She could overpower me and run. She won't get far but she'll make things difficult. I could just turn around and leave the door open on my way out but what about the next time I come here? She might lie in wait and attack.
"You're thinking too much, I won't kill you." She murmurs, still not looking at me.
I release a breath I didn't know I was holding. I'm strong but even I am no match for an Alpha. How do those wolves who challenge her do it? Standing this close to her, I can feel how powerful she is.
"That's a relief to hear. I like being alive."
She snorts but doesn't say anything. I clear my throat to get her attention but she doesn't turn towards me.
"I won't lock the door on my way out. The Alpha said you want to speak to the witch. I'll lock the one that leads out to the main floor."
I pause and wait for acknowledgement or a response. She doesn't give anything.
"I need your word that you won't attack me or try to run away once I turn my back on you.
Her eyes find me immediately. "Don't give me ideas. That's not a promise I can make, everybody knows this."
"What if that's the only condition for the door to be left open?"
She returns her gaze to the wall and I take the hint.
"It's not a condition by the way. He would never do that to you." I rush to add.
Something happened here and I don't want to unintentionally make it worse.
"He's a good wolf you know, he's strict and sometimes doesn't listen but you won't regret having him as your mate."
She raises her hands and her claws extend. I raise my hands in surrender and I slowly back away. My work here is done and I should leave before she gets really angry.
When I get back upstairs, Caius is sitting on the couch, deep in thought.
"You came back." I say.
I don't expect an answer so when he gives me one, I don't know what to do.
"I can't force myself to stay away. I need to be near her for my wolf."
He's in a lot of pain. I can't bear to see him in this amount of pain but I also cannot help him.
"I'm thinking of moving here so I can be closer to her."
I nod in response. "That is a good plan. It might even help with your bond — If she doesn't go crazy first."
He cracks a smile at my joke before looking away and I feel brave enough to ask the question that has been bugging me.
"So why did she punch you?"
He leans back on the seat and smiles to himself before looking back at me.
"She kissed me back."
In a dimly lit room underneath an abandoned factory, three half shifted wolves are sitting around the dirty room, laughing. A light suddenly appears from the entrance and they shield their eyes from the invasion.
The light goes off and a large half shifted werewolf walks inside, looking angry. He turns the flash light to the corner of the room where two women who look barely alive are hanging from the roof. Their clothes are torn, their bound wrists are bloody, their eyes are blindfolded and their mouths are gagged.
"Why are they still hanging there! If they die, then this whole thing fails." He screams at the three werewolves.
"We have what we need, why do we still need these witches?" One of the three werewolves ask.
"We do not have anything. Six months! Six months of hardwork and all we can show for it are rogues that die off as soon as they feed and constantly being in half shift. Does any of that sound like breakthrough to you?"
The three werewolves take deep breaths and exchange glances with each other. They've spoken amongst themselves, they think this plan is stupid and do not understand why they have to be half shifted all the time for the bigger werewolves' plan to work. If he didn't act like he had a camera somewhere in the room, they would spend their time in human form.
"Why the fuck are they still hanging? Bring them down and feed them!" He roars and they spring into action.
This was not the plan they all thought to themselves. This wasn't what he told them when he recruited them. If they had known they were signing up to be his slaves, they would have never agreed to come. They used to wonder why all the people he started this with, left, now they know.
The bigger werewolf watches in silence as his minions bring the witches down. He knows they think he is crazy, but they've never seen these witches at full power. Untill he gets what he wants, the witches will remain drugged, tied, blindfolded and gagged.
It's their own fault for trying to betray him anyway.
