Chapter 11 CHAPTER ELEVEN

Chapter 11 CHAPTER ELEVEN
CAIUS
I’ve said the wrong thing and I’ve scared her.
“I know fighting this thing is hard for you, it’s hard for me too.”
"You're not fighting it.” she says.
"No, but I'm fighting the urge to mark you right here. I’m fighting the urge to take you until you're spent and your voice is so coarse that you can't even scream my name.”
Her breathing slows and her fists tighten.
"You know of me Maeva. I'm not exactly one to deny myself of anything.”
"Well you're going to have to start now." she says, snapping back to the stubborn creature she is.
I want to kiss her so bad, bend her will and give her a taste of what it could be like between us. She’ll love it, she'll need it but it'll give her one more excuse to hate me and I can't give her that.
I clear my throat and my head of thoughts about her.
“I went with the council members to the witches’ territory. Do you want an update?” I ask.
It’s evident that she’s shocked at the sudden change of subject. The back and forth serves no one and I’m tired of it.
“Of course, I want an update. What happened?”
I snort, then look around the forest in distaste. “I trust our combined strength but we are in a forest of rogues who keep surprising us daily. We'd better leave now that they don’t want to bother us.”
She looks around before she sighs. She starts walking out the forest and I follow. We come out of the forest to find her Beta, standing close to a truck. I’m sure the truck is his excuse to be here. She could have run back to the pack.
“You’re still here?” Maeva asks, equally surprised.
“Yeah, I wanted to be around in case something happened.” He answers.
I stand quietly behind Maeva, wondering how long she’d mourn him if I killed him right now. He’s still afraid of me but for some reason, he thinks Maeva will stop me from killing him. That’s the only conclusion from his behavior. He’s pretending I’m not here, and looking at my mate like he remembers every inch of her skin.
He hands her the keys to the truck and his hands linger on hers. My wolf snaps and before either of them can register the sound, I have the Beta pinned down and my claws are in his throat.
“Caius!” Maeva yells, angrier than I have ever heard her. “What the fuck do you think you’re doing?”
“Protecting what’s mine.” I growl out. “I told you whatever is between the both of you stops, didn't I?”
My claws dig deeper into the Beta’s throat and his eyes bulge out. He’s gasping for air and clawing at me to release him.
“You have no right to treat him like this. Killing him won’t make us mates, it will ruin whatever chance you have.”
Her words hit me like a silver bullet and I release the beta immediately. I stand up and turn to her, letting my fury show. I stalk close to her and she doesn’t back down or take any steps back even though I see her flinch.
“First of all, this bond will be completed. I’m giving you time to come to terms with it on your own, but make no mistakes, this will happen. Second of all, if your beta has any problem keeping his hands to himself hence forth, he will die. Third, threatening me with our bond is out of the question. Don’t fucking do it again, Maeva.”
With that, I turn back to the Beta who is still on the ground, spit on him then shift. I need to get out of here before I really kill him. I wanted a powerful mate who won’t cower when I speak. I should have been more specific with what I wanted, bull headed wasn’t on my list.
Only when I get home, do I realise that I didn’t give her the update, which was my excuse to go there in the first place. Everything about this morning has been annoying. I woke up hard and burning with need for my mate and now, I’m running to go train so I can hit the anger out of my body.

After training, I go into my office to deal with pack issues, anything to distract myself from going back to Maeva’s pack. How does she not feel this need to be together all the time? No, I’m sure she feels it. How is she fighting it?
“Alpha,” Clayton says through the mind link.
“What happened?” I ask, alert. The sound of his voice doesn’t indicate good news.
“There’s a witch at the pack entrance demanding to see you.”
I’m out of my seat in a second. I shift and start running to the pack entrance. Why would a witch be here? Why would they want to see me? I increase my pace and soon, I’m staring into the cold face of a witch. A witch I recognize from their council. Her coming alone could either be an insult or a sign of peace, I’m not sure which it is yet.
I shift to human form and take the clothes Clayton offers me. The witch rolls her eyes and with a flick of her wrists, my clothes are on me.
“There, that’s faster,” she says.
Her coming alone is definitely an insult. She doesn’t think we can harm her. I sniff the air and smile when I realise I’m right. More of her kind are hidden. She probably insisted on coming on her own.
“What do you want? I was made to understand that there was nothing more you could have done for us.”
“We discussed and made some investigations. We have information your kind might need.”
“Okay, I will direct you to the council. You can inform them.”
Her face twists in disgust. “They’ll be no need for that. Our council decided that it’s you we want to talk to. If you refuse the information then I will go and you’ll be left to figure this out on your own.”
I laugh. “You’re bluffing. Yesterday, you were ready to let us die but today you’re offering information that can help? New information came to light, didn’t it?”
“Do you want the information or not?” she asks, her eyes turning cold.
“I’m listening.” I answer smuggly.
“Two very old witches are missing. Any one of them could have done that spell, or both of them could have done it.”
“Two very old witches go missing and you don’t notice?”
She shrugs. “Those who practice dark magic aren’t much of a concern to the council. Find the witches, then you find the root of everything.”
These damn witches, they want us to find their witches.
“Your locator spell can’t locate them?” I ask.
The witch grunts and opens a portal. “I’ll be in touch,” she says and walks through the portal.
“What will you do?” Clayton asks from behind me.
"The only thing to do, I have to tell the council.”
