Chapter 54 - Rejecting A Wolf

Asherah began to grow at an alarming rate, each day she aged a month. It shocked Selene and made her contact the lord.

The Lord came and checked her over and noted nothing was wrong, she was just maturing faster due to her awakening.

What the lord didn't tell Selene was that Asherah's memories of the past were flooding back in. The lord tried to retain them but to his surprise, she negated his interference.

The Lord wanted to give Asherah a normal childhood but she wasn't a normal child, to begin with, not anymore.

Pretty soon, Asherah was completely mature. She looked like an adult, moved and talk that way. The Lord couldn't curb his curiosity and wanted to know her true thoughts.

Because ever since she matured she rarely made any attempt to talk to anyone.

Asherah was sitting on the terrace of her bedroom. Her bronze-colored skin seem to shine in the morning sunlight as her silvery white hair which mirrored her mother own was braided in a fishtail and hung off her right shoulder.

"You see me every day, yet hide your resentment so well." The lord appeared in the chair opposite Asherah and said.

"You try to erase my memories to hide the pain you caused," Asherah answered dully. "Haven't you already gotten what you wanted?"

"This wasn't what I wanted." The lord shook his head and told her gently.

"Of course it wasn't, you were expecting a clean slate to mold into the sixth cardinal." Asherah sarcastically replied.

"Everything I did was for you. You needed to learn that there are rules and consequences to some actions. Asherah, this is my love for you. You had to be punished," the lord told her gently.

"You kill my children, tortured my soul, and had me reincarnated for this. So call parental love? And on top of that, you still want me to be the sixth cardinal?" Asherah scoffed.

The lord didn't say anything. He just sat there watching her silently. This was why he wiped her memory. This was his intention to give her a fresh start.

But it seems her powers were getting stronger and she was strong enough to negate his powers from affecting her.

His firstborn, his successor, was grown up now. And there was an aching in his chest. As he looked at her fierce face, ready to defy him at any point.

"You can not make me out to be the bad guy, I made the rules, and you chose to break them. I wanted to take those bad memories away, which is why I had your mother give birth to you again, but you're strong, you retain your memories. " the lord told her and the two fell into silence.

Asherah knew she had been wrong back then, but after countless lives of torment, she didn't want to wrong herself anymore.

"Is Kushiel alive?" She asked him.

"You know that he is." The Lord gave her look, and Asherah couldn't help but purse her lips to the side.

"Then can't you let us off? I'm tired of this, I won't ever become the sixth cardinal, and you know it." She asked."We'll live and die as humans if you want. I just can't do this anymore."

"You must become the sixth cardinal. This is what you were born to do." He firmly denied her request.

"Stop," Asherah rubbed her forehead. "I can't keep up with your expectations, I told you that I won't do it. Now please leave." The Lord gave her a look before saying.

"I will leave today. Tomorrow, I will be back. Have sweet dreams, my precious." Completely stunning Asherah he moved closer and pressed his warms lips against her forehead before disappearing.

He was never affectionate, but he always knew what a person needed. He knew that what he did to her was taking its toll on her.

He wasn't wrong. They broke taboo. They had to be punished, but just maybe his punishment was too harsh, and the fact he tried to make it better by erasing her memory.

'Sigh, what have I done?' Before his talk with Asherah, he was confident, but now he was in a state of confusion and regret.

Just now, he tried to erase her memories again, but to his surprise, his magic was completely blocked off.

In his deep thoughts, the lord ended up where he imprisoned Kushiel. He made the angels guarding him retreat, and he created a chair out of thin air to sit down.

"Tell me, Kushiel," the lord paused, hesitating a bit. "Why did you say there'll never be a sixth cardinal."

Kushiel, who had his head bowed, laughed. Just a few months ago, he was ready to beat him bloody for saying that now that he had hit a wall. He came to him.

"Asherah doesn't want to be your successor. Didn't she make it clear enough?" Kushiel croaked out. His throat was dry after not speaking for so long. "As long as I exist, as long as I remain in her heart and memories, it will never happen. Because she wants something incredibly simple. She wants the freedom to love a fallen angel."

"Then tell me fallen angel Kushiel, what did I do wrong?" the lord asked him.

"You are a parent." The Lord frowned, a parent? what the hell did that mean? That's when Kushiel continued. "Parents always think they know what is right for their children, they completely disregard their children telling them what they want and do what they think is right. Parents make mistakes too, and as the most powerful parent in the universe you'll never be able to understand her."

"Then tell me of my mistakes." the lord ordered.

"Will you even listen?" Kushiel asked in disbelief.

"I want to understand Asherah." the lord answered, "I want to get to know her through your point of view."

"Then you can read my mind and memories," Kushiel told him.

"That's not what I need, I need you to tell me in your own words. Can you do it" The lord asked and Kushiel pursed his lips for a second before he nodded.

While Kushiel and the lord was talking Asherah fell asleep. She began to dream again of the past.

Asherah found herself sitting on the grass. The sensation of the grass tickled her skin, and her vaguely aware this wasn't a dream.

"You're zoning out again. Am I such bad company?" A man's voice sounded from the side of her playfully.

It was only then that she realized she wasn't alone. Turning her head to look at the person beside her almost knocked her breath away.

He looked somewhat similar to Jace, with black hair dark eyes, and a sharp jaw. But somehow, he made Jace look like an immature little duck.

He was chiseled like God just paid extra attention to this man's beauty.

"You're staring again." The man pointed to the corner of his lips and curled it into a sexy smile as he teased her. "Oh, you're drooling too."

A blush crept up her face, and she hurriedly looked away. The mman'smelodious laughter rang through her ears and straight into her heart.

Asherah's heart throbbed in pain, and hearing his laughter made her feel pain all over.

"The world is really pretty." Asherah's mouth moved on its own and spoke words. That's when an invisible force pushed her out of her body. She viewed everything like an outsider.

"Hahaha! "Kushiel laughed out loud. "This excuse is worse than the last one."

"Then who told you to look so good," She hid her face in embarrassment and mumbled. His laughter echoed through her ears, making her give up on hiding and openly glaring at him.

"Oh, come on, I won't laugh at you anymore." Kushiel tackled Asherah to the ground, his left hand under her head and his right at the side keeping his weight off her body. "You're turning me into a bad angel."

"That's not bad, is it?" Asherah curled her lips and wrapped her arms around his neck and forcefully brought him down to her lips.

"We need to be careful," Kushiel said in between kisses. And Asherah made a sound of agreement.

She sighed as she woke up. It's always like this. One night, she had a good dream of the past, and the other she had painful memories of the past.

She had gotten used to it by now. Who was right, and who was wrong in this situation? Asherah didn't know anymore.

To Asherah, all they wanted was to express their love freely, and openly. But they got punished for the most natural thing in the world.

She couldn't understand why some love was accepted, but others weren't. Why was her love for an angel condemned.?

It was his house, his rules, but Asherah didn't think it was fair. He gave them free will, but he condemned it when their free will to love was executed.

She couldn't be the successor he wanted, so he tried to reform her. Now, even as he came to see her, there was nothing like family love, only resentment.

That was deep and rooted. He took away her love, killed her children, and trapped her in an endless loop of torture.

She had to fix her mistakes, but how and where should she start? How to convince her father she wasn't the perfect child he wanted she didn't know.

Asherah curled up in a ball on the bed and begrudgingly closed her eyes. "Where are you, Kushiel? Will I ever see you again?"

Asherah knew she had to start a change. She would never become what they were forcing her to become, but she should at least try to make them understand her point of view on things

To Asherah, who never truly had the proper guidance of her parents, even in every lifetime. Her parents just always made decisions for her.

Taking Anderson's decision to have a rejection. She went along with it because of her blind trust in her parents.

Then, there is why things became the way they were on earth.

Why were the other werepeople killed off? It was simply because Asherah and Kushiel were in their midst.

Werewolves did feel superior to the other races because they resembled lLycansthe most. That part is true, but the pushing force that slaughtered these races was an invisible one.

As if that were punishment enough, when Asherah and Kushiel reincarnated into the werewolf race, the Lord began the soul mate system. It was to rip them away from each other, but the truth of this matter is that there is no one perfect person for a person.

Because no one is perfect. How could there be a perfect match for each person?

It was impossible for this to happen, there were only those who were compatible, which is why Aurora had a second mate, and it wouldn't have mattered if she had met Tom first, tragedy would have struck them quickly.

This is how it always was. It never ended well for them because they had a tragic fate due to their crimes. It was because of them that werewolf society was the way that it was. Rotten to the core.

But one thing was certain, with how the werewolf society is now, she couldn't leave it like that, she owed. it to Aurora, to herself to rip out the bad weeds.

Because the situation on earth stemmed from them, Asherah and Kushiel's mistake. An entire race suffered for them.

Asherah laughed sadly, she was afraid that she'd probably never be able to leave here unless, by some miracle, the Lord let her off.
