Chapter 34
Chapter 34
Reena (Clarissa) POV:
I stood frozen, my mind racing with the implications of Emily's words. A waiter was going to give me a drink, and Silverton had instructed me to make sure the Feral Alpha drank it. But what was in the drink? And why couldn't Silverton just ask the waiter to give it to the Feral Alpha himself?
I gasped suddenly, everything becoming clear to me. Don't tell me the drink was actually poisoned, and since I was the one offering the drink, the Feral Alpha would think I was the one who poisoned him. Would I become a murderer? I didn't even think I would be able to do this before the Feral Alpha got to me.
I paced back and forth, biting my lower lip and clenching and unclenching my fist. My phone beeped, and the screen lit up. "Are you sure you want to hesitate?" The threatening message was from Silverton. Below the message was a video, and I breathed panicked, wondering what he had sent. I was sure the video was meant to add to his threat.
I took a deep breath, closed my eyes, and tried to calm down. I breathed slowly and opened my eyes, my heart still racing. I clicked on the video, and my heart sank. There was my father, sleeping peacefully on the bed, his face haggard and thin, with white grey hair. He looked ten times older than he was. I felt a pang of sadness and guilt, looking at him like this. I was the cause of all our misfortune. If Silverton's sweet words hadn't captured my heart, I wouldn't have fallen into his trap, and he wouldn't be using me like a puppet.
The next thing I knew, a man entered the room with a gun in his hand. He pointed it at my dad's head, and that was when the video ended. I gritted my teeth and clenched my fist hard in anger. How dare Silverton stoop so low? How could he threaten me with my dad over and over again?
Then a text message from him appeared. "Do what I asked you to do, and no harm will come to your dad, okay dear?" With so much anger, I almost smashed my phone to the ground. "Okay," I replied, feeling defeated, and sighed. It seemed I had to do this. I couldn't allow anything to happen to my dad; he meant the whole world to me.
As I was about to open the bathroom door, I heard a knock, and Beta Leo's voice came later. "Clarissa, I hope you're okay in there?" I put on a fake smile, trying to compose myself. "Oh, yes, I'm already coming out." I hurriedly deleted Silverton's message and opened the door, and there stood Beta Leo at the entrance.
I forced a smile. "I'm done; let's go." As we got back to the venue, the place was merry, and many people were trying to get close to the Feral Alpha. As I got to the table, I cleared my throat and sat down. The Feral Alpha waved the people away with a wave of his hand, and they all left disappointedly.
"Why did you take so long?" The Feral Alpha asked, staring at me with those probing gray eyes of his. "Or were you doing something else in there?" I looked away guiltily and put on a fake smile. "What else would I be doing?" I tried to sound nonchalant, but my heart was racing with anxiety.
I stood frozen, my eyes fixed on Silverton and Emily as they laughed and smiled together. My heart twisted with anger and jealousy, the pain they had caused me still fresh in my mind. How could they be so happy when I was still reeling from the hurt?
The Emcee's voice cut through my thoughts, announcing the start of the Exclusive Auction. The room erupted into applause, and I joined in, my eyes never leaving Silverton and Emily.
The auctioneer, a charismatic young Alpha, took the stage, his voice booming through the room. "Welcome, esteemed Alphas, to the most exclusive auction of the year! Tonight, we have a selection of rare and unique items that will make your hearts desire."
He held up a stunning 18-carat diamond necklace, and I gasped in awe. It was beautiful, shining brightly under the lights. I remembered the good old days when I would have urged my dad to bid on something like this for me.
Emily squealed with delight, her eyes fixed on the necklace, and I could sense her excitement. The bidding began, with several Alphas vying for the necklace. Then, Silverton's voice cut through the chatter, his bid of $300,000 sending shockwaves through the room.
The Feral Alpha, seated beside me, caught my gaze, his eyes locked on the necklace. "I think the necklace would suit you," he said, his voice low and husky. "I bid $800,000."
I stared at him in shock, my mind reeling with questions. What was happening? Why was he bidding on a necklace for me? The crowd cheered and murmured, the auctioneer's smile growing wider.
"Wow, it seems this necklace is really very special and has grabbed Alpha Dante of Starlight pack's attention," the auctioneer shouted. "Anyone else up for the bid?"
Emily's eyes met mine, her glare piercing. I felt a surge of satisfaction, knowing that Silverton wouldn't be able to get the necklace for her. But at the same time, I was wary of the Feral Alpha's intentions. What did he want from me?
I felt a surge of emotions, but I didn't know what to say. I didn't want anything from the Feral Alpha, but at the same time, I felt a sense of satisfaction knowing that Silverton wouldn't be able to get the necklace for Emily.
The auctioneer's voice cut through the tension, announcing that the Feral Alpha had won the bid. The crowd erupted into applause once again, and I felt a sense of unease.
The auctioneer held out the necklace box to the Feral Alpha.
