Uncovering Deeper Secrets!
Adolpha could now see the large mansion. She approached it and came to a halt. She took a deep breath as she stared down at the business card that had been handed to her an hour and a half ago. For her brother, she was willing to do anything. When she heard the sound of the door opening and saw Augusta, she raised her head.
"You are early." Augusta smirked.
"Where is my brother?"
"Slow down. Come inside. We'll let you see your brother if you tell us how to get into werewolf territory."
"I'm not sure what kind of game you're playing. You wanted the Alpha. Don't you?" Augusta nodded. "Then why are you so desperate to enter my territory?"
"Just come along. We'll discuss it over biscuits and tea." Augusta took the lead. Adolpha came to a halt as she approached the entrance. "Oh. Wolfsbane." Augusta swept it away with a broom. She pushed open the door, making room for Adolpha to enter.
Adolpha took a deep breath as she walked deeper into the mansion. The only thing she could smell were humans, but not her brother. "I can't smell my brother at all. Where is he?" Adolpha shifted her gaze to Augusta.
"Settle down. We will talk over tea and biscuits." When Augusta snapped her fingers, a maid dashed over to them. "Please make some hot tea and bring our guest the most expensive biscuit."
Adolpha sat down, nervously placing her hands on her laps and searching the house over and over. It was huge, and part of her doesn't want to stay any longer.
"Ah. So, tell me, how do I get to the territory. It appears that you werewolves can hide better than I expected."
"They are innocent werewolves there. The pups that know nothing about what is actually going on. Are you going to kill them without mercy?"
"That doesn't concern you. You came here to see your brother, and you'll be leaving with him. All you have to do is deliver a message." Augusta paused as the maid placed a cup of tea and a plate of biscuits on the table. She waited for the maid to leave before speaking again. "You should eat up. This particular biscuit was brought over from England. It is among the most expensive."
"Thank you for your generosity, but I'd like to get right to the point. Where is my brother?"
"He is in the underground," a deep voice said.
When Adolpha turned around, he noticed a man approaching them. She got to her feet. "I know you. You are…" She gasped. "Scarlett's grandfather."
"You may address me as Philip."
"Mr. O'Hara. This is even more shocking." Adolpha turned to face Augusta. "Now that I see you clearly, I can see some resemblance. You'll keep your word about my brother if I tell you how to get to the territory."
"Of course," Philip replied.
Adolpha started speaking, telling them where to go and how the territory would appear magically if they entered the unfinished building she described. Adolpha began to laugh after she finished speaking. "This is hilarious. I can't believe you have my brother in your custody without even checking your granddaughter's background. It's like murdering a portion of your granddaughter."
"What are you trying to say?" Augusta asked.
"If you want a scapegoat, Scarlett should be the one chained, not my brother."
"Young girl, you…"
Adolpha interrupted. "It appears that I will have to enlighten you on something you are unaware of. Your granddaughter is one of us. A werewolf."
Augusta began to laugh. "You are trying to find a way out of this. Don't mind her, father. She's spitting nonsense."
"Am I?" Adolpha laughed yet again. "There's an even more shocking story here. She is our Luna. Our pack's female leader. I'm sure you're wondering how that happened. On the night of the red moon, the Alpha bit her and transformed her into one of us. He's even married to her right now."
"Nonsense!" Phillip yelled angrily.
"Trust me; I bet your daughter in law knows too. Scarlett's sister included. They're doing everything they can to keep her safe. Even from you, Phillip."
"That is enough!" Philip's brow furrowed. "Get her out of here and make her suffer," he told the two men who approached them.
"Get off of me!" When the two big men grabbed Adolpha, she yelled. She attempted to transform, but a sleeping mask was placed over her face, and she promptly fell asleep.
"Put her in a different cell away from her brother," he told the men. "And you, Augusta, we must go to the O'Hara mansion."
…
Scarlett embraced herself as she gazed out her window. Watching the bitch black street. Waiting for Mace to respond to her about Simon.
Mia dashed inside when the door opened. "Mom is back."
Scarlett turned around and nodded. She wasn't surprised at all that October would return. Scarlett stepped away from the window and followed Mia out of the room. Scarlett could see October sitting on the chair, talking with Belly as she descended the stairs.
"Oh. Scarlett. I am so glad that I found you home." October stated as she rose to hug her daughter. "I was telling Belly about the near-accident that occurred on my way back."
Scarlett pretended to smile as October released her. "What brings you back so early? I expected you to use a month."
"I couldn't leave you all behind. Besides, my family was not overjoyed to see me. Your grandpapa and grandmummy were angry. I even had to spend a few nights in a hotel."
"Did you bring anything for us? I have always wanted to try England chocolate." Mia stated as she sat next to October.
"Aren't all chocolates the same?" Belly asked.
"Certainly not, Belly." Mia sighed and rolled her eyes. "You really should get out more."
Belly's gaze was drawn to the window when she noticed a reflection of light fall into the room. It came from a car. She shifted her gaze to October. "Are you expecting someone?"
"Nope. Nobody knows I've returned."
Belly stood up and approached the door. She looked through the door hole and immediately turned to face October. "It is granddad. He has arrived with Aunt Augutsa."
"What? Why?"
"Scarlett. Go to your room and close the door behind you." Belly said. "Mom and I will handle grandfather."
"But why?" Scarlett was baffled.
"Just listen to me. If you overhear any potentially harmful conversation, run as far as your legs will take you."
"And why would she do something like that, Isabella?"
"Mom. Just come with me." She held onto October and signalled Scarlett to go. Scarlett dashed up the stairs and locked the door behind her. Belly exhaled as she opened the door before a knock was placed on it. "Grandfather. We weren't expecting you."
Philip dashed into the house and took a quick look around. "Where is Scarlett?" He sounded angry.
"And why are you looking for my daughter?" October asked.
"How was your trip to London? Let me guess, your parents despised you and sent you away?" Augusta grinned.
"Not now, Augusta. Father in law. Why are you here for Scarlett?" She noticed the wolfsbane jar in his hand. "What are you doing with that?"
"I know you know your second daughter is a werewolf, but you're keeping it from me."
"What? What kind of prank are you pulling on me? Werewolf? No, Scarlett is human." October turned to Belly. "Tell your grandfather he's talking nonsense."
Belly gulped. "You're talking nonsense, Grandfather. Scarlett is human, and she is visiting a friend. Come back tomorrow."
"I'll look into it myself." Philip left with Augusta and the men who accompanied them as they made their way to Scarlett's room. It was empty when they walked in.
"What is going on here? What did I miss when I was gone?" October inquired, her gaze drawn to her two daughters.
Mia and Belly's gazes locked. Belly cast a glance at October. "Grandfather is right. Scarlett is actually a werewolf."
"What?" Mia and October said in unison. In shock.
"You know? How long?" Mia asked.
"It's been a while. I knew the day she tried to protect Simon after I discovered he wasn't who he claimed to be. I'm not surprised that you know."
"What the hell is going on here? My daughter is a werewolf, and I have no idea? How? When? How did all this come to be?" October's voice was shaken as she spoke. Her daughter is now a creature the family is used to killing?
"Mom. I once told you that Scarlett has a big secret. This is it. This is the secret that drove her to become obstinate and turn to drugs. It happened on the night of daddy's funeral. The day we discovered blood on her. That night, she was bitten by the Alpha." Mia took October's hand in hers. "However, you must be strong for her. She needs our assistance now more than ever. Are you going to help your daughter or have her grandfather kill her?"
"Mom." Belly called.
October inhaled deeply, keeping her tears hidden. "I had no idea she was in pain the whole time. I can't make the same mistake I did when she was a child. I'm not going to abandon her again." She nodded her head as she smiled at her daughters. "You are right. She needs us now more than ever, and I will make certain that she is safe."
