Chapter 109. Unveiling the Truth of the Prophecy
Raphael briefly stopped breathing, unable to hold back as he gripped his phone tightly: "Are you saying that was the second time she came to me because of a high-interest loan? What about the surgery costs?"
"That's right," Lucas replied, "I investigated. Ms. Jacintha borrowed money from a loan company with very high interest, and after three years, the surgery cost had risen to eight hundred thousand."
These words rang in Raphael’s ears. He suddenly fell silent, tightening his grip on the phone before letting it go, and remained silent for a while before speaking again. It turned out he had misunderstood Jacintha all this time. Two years ago, Jacintha came to him because of the high-interest loan.
Raphael furrowed his brows, feeling a sense of confusion and unease. The feeling of unease was something he couldn’t put into words. Just the thought that Jacintha really wanted to avoid him - this wasn’t just talk, it was the truth - made him feel frustrated and worried.
He once again asked himself, if he met Jacintha, what would he say? Would he tell her that he knew she sold herself just to pay off the loan? Raphael felt his mind in turmoil, pacing back and forth in the room several times, and finally, he picked up the phone and called Jacintha.
Soon, a pleasant voice answered on the other end: "Hello, the number you dialed is invalid..."
Invalid number?
Raphael tried calling again, but he still received the notification that the number was invalid. He immediately called Lucas: "Give me Jacintha's new phone number."
Lucas found it confusing: "Ms. Jacintha hasn’t changed her phone number."
Raphael frowned: "I can’t reach her. It says the number is invalid."
Lucas remained silent for a moment, trying to explain diplomatically: "It’s possible that Ms. Jacintha may have accidentally blocked your number."
This couldn’t have been accidental; it was clearly intentional. Raphael wasn’t stupid enough not to understand that. Angrily, he shouted, "Fine! She dares to block my number! If that’s the case, don’t look for me again!"
Noticing Raphael's anger, Lucas dared not say anything further but thought to himself: Should I advise Ms. Jacintha to unblock the Alpha’s number from her block list?
Raphael threw his phone aside, still seething with anger, thinking: The pitiful ones always have their faults, and Jacintha is exactly that kind of person. She really doesn’t know what’s good for her!
He had helped Jacintha pay off a usurious loan, but instead of being grateful, she not only insulted him but even blocked his contact number. What she did was nothing short of ingratitude!
That night, Raphael couldn't calm his anger and didn’t fall asleep until early morning.
Over the weekend, Raphael returned to visit Laura and Kaelthor. Laura was sitting cutting flower paper, wearing reading glasses, and when she saw Raphael returning alone, she asked, "Why didn’t you bring Sharon with you?"
Raphael sat down in front of her and gently said, "We broke up."
Laura paused, looked at him for a moment, then asked, "Why?"
"We didn’t get along," Raphael replied.
"Hmph, I thought you felt sorry for me because I’m old and you were just being polite."
"Not at all. We’re still good friends."
Laura sighed: "I really thought you had found someone who truly loved you. I didn’t expect it to fall apart so quickly. I honestly don’t understand what you want."
What does he want? In Raphael’s mind, he couldn’t control the sudden image of Jacintha’s beautiful, alluring face.
He couldn't help but furrow his brow and said, "I don't like people who are too stubborn. I don't like people who don't listen and even try to lecture me. People like that have low EQ and bad temper. I don't think anyone would like someone like that."
Laura caught a hint of implication and smiled, asking, "Who would dare lecture you?"
Raphael refused to admit it, saying, "No one, I was just giving an example."
Laura nodded and continued cutting paper for her drawing. After a moment, she slowly said, "I think Jacintha is not bad, it's a pity you don't like her. It's all your fault, Jacintha hasn’t visited me lately."
Raphael paused for a moment and then said, "If she wants to come, let her. What does it have to do with me? I didn’t lock her in."
Raphael turned to the servant standing beside him, "Call Jacintha and tell her to come have dinner with my grandparents."
The servant nodded slightly, "Yes."
Raphael thought for a moment and added, "If she asks about me, just tell her I'm not here."
The servant nodded again, "Yes."
Laura glanced over her glasses at her grandson, as if thinking about something. At that moment, Kaelthor walked down the stairs and saw Raphael. He said, "Come, let’s have a private talk."
Raphael knew Kaelthor wanted to talk about him and Sharon, so he obediently followed.
Once in the room, Kaelthor looked at Raphael sternly. "I heard you want to cancel the prophecy and sever the mate bond with Sharon. Do you know what the consequences could be?"
Raphael lowered his head and replied, "I understand. But Sharon doesn't love me. Being with her would be exhausting. Her parents are our benefactors, so I accept enduring all the pain."
Kaelthor was silent for a while before asking, "The pain of severing the mate bond could cripple you, or even kill you. Do you still want to go through with it? Besides, haven’t you always liked Sharon? Even if she doesn’t love you, she can't resist the power of an Alpha."
Raphael knew that too. If he wanted to, even if Sharon rejected him, she would still have to obediently become his mate. But until now, he realized he didn’t love her as much as he thought. Perhaps freeing each other was his way of repaying Sharon.
"Grandpa, I’ve made up my mind. I’ll ask Elder Smith to cancel the prophecy."
Kaelthor didn’t say anything more and called Raphael out. However, his suspicions were growing. He had never liked Sharon because he had sensed her ambitions long ago. Now, he also doubted Smith and the prophecy that Smith had created.
He would send his guards to investigate. If the prophecy was true, he would help Raphael endure the pain. But if the prophecy was a lie with a dark scheme, he, the former Alpha of Wulfhart, would personally eliminate the culprit, even if the culprit was a close comrade of his.
