Chapter 141 They Want To Come To Your Rescue
••• Charlotte's POV •••
I sat alone and bored at this so-called party. The music was too loud, and the guests were behaving lewdly and gulping down drinks like they had never tasted alcohol before.
I rolled my eyes when I saw a he-wolf chain drinking glasses of champagne.
Could he at least be classier when drinking champagne?
If I really became Aleksander's Luna…
What would my life be like?
A life full of drugs, these so-called parties, and any other illegal activities.
I shuddered when I thought about life in the underground with Aleksander. I had to find out how to get rid of this bangle no matter what.
Aleksander was an arsehole for bringing me to the party and leaving me alone to do Goddess knew what.
Leaving me alone would be a good thing if he didn't ask a guard to watch me before he left. The guard was troublesome. He followed me everywhere I went. He even stood watch outside the ladies when I went there.
I had to stay on the side and sit in a corner to listen quietly to the conversations of the guests around me to gather some useful information, and yet my effort had been useless.
The guests were just seducing each other, not talking about anything useful.
I saw a tall and muscular man with scars on half of his face coming toward me and my heart started to beat faster.
Hayden… He was still in his disguise as our driver.
Even with the scars, it couldn't hide his beautiful deep dark eyes. Or maybe it was just me since no one really took notice of him. They just glanced at him and sneered with disgust.
If only they knew how handsome the face beneath all those hideous scars.
Oh well… I guessed it was good that they couldn't see his original handsome face or all the she-wolves would flock around him like bees to honey.
He stepped toward the driver and said in a gruff voice, "Alpha Aleksander asked for a shift change. I'm not in charge of the Luna."
The bodyguard hesitated to move away, and told him, "But I haven't received any mindlink from Alpha Aleksander. Are you sure you get it right?"
Hayden snorted and gave the bodyguard a contemptuous smile.
"I just came out from the VIP room and Alpha Aleksander was busy having fun with the toys that Alpha Elijah had prepared for him," Hayden said to the guard. "Do you think the Alpha will have time to mindlink you?"
Hayden pointed to the VIP room with his chin and we all saw a couple of sexy she-wolves going into the room.
The guard still hesitated, but Hayden threw a few hundred dollar bills and a small ziplock plastic bag filled with white powder at the guard who was sitting next to me.
"That's your reward from the Alpha for your shift," he said with a devilish and mysterious smile.
Seeing the money and the drugs, the bodyguard's eyes lit up and he stood immediately.
"Thanks, man," the bodyguard told Hayden before leaving in excitement.
I shuddered when I thought of how Aleksander might be using drugs too. The Moon Goddess' choice of mate for me was getting worse.
Hayden took the seat next to me and whispered, "Lottie, I've gotten in touch with Alpha Alrick and Beta Leo. They want to come to your rescue."
"Did you tell them about my whereabouts?" I asked him in a whisper.
"I did, but I told them it isn't the time to rescue you yet since…" he looked at my bangle with uneasiness.
"Did you tell Dad and Leo about the bangle?" I asked him.
"I did. If I didn't tell them, they might kill Aleksander and it will… kill you," he said the last two words in a barely-a-whisper voice.
"What did they say?"
I was worried they would come to my rescue before we could get the bracelet off my wrist.
"They understand the situation and they will wait for my signals before coming to rescue you," he said.
"That's good." I let out a sigh of relief before asking, "How is my Dad? And Leo, and the Moon Crest Pack? Did Aleksander create any trouble for them?"
"No," he replied.
"Because his target is you…" I couldn't help but sigh.
"Yeah…" he agreed grimly.
"How is the Red Claw Pack?" I asked him. "Do you need help from the Moon Crest Pack? If you need help, you can ask for it. I'm sure Dad will help since you are here to protect me."
"You don't have to worry about the Red Claw Pack, Lottie. We can take care of ourselves. The Red Claw Pack is fine," he assured me. "Noah always updates me about everything that's happening and I've been instructing him through our mindlink. Furthermore, I don't want to involve the Moon Crest Pack in the war between me and Aleksander."
I nodded in understanding. Aleksander might hurt me but he wouldn't kill me since he'd die too if he killed me, so to involve the Moon Crest Pack would only add more trouble.
"Then tell Dad and Leo not to be reckless just yet. As long as I'm still wearing the bangle, I should be fine," I told him.
He nodded in response. "Lottie… I'll make Aleksander pay for what he's done to you one day."
I looked at him and felt my heart tremble again. It seemed it hadn't been that long since he preferred to believe Sofia and break our matebond, but now he was ready to sacrifice his life for me.
How time had changed…
"Hayden… Your scars…" Now that we were sitting next to each other, I realized that the scars looked too real.
My hand subconsciously lifted to touch those hideous scars on his face.
"Don't, Lottie…" He stopped me with a whisper.
I dropped my hand to my lap again. I felt like cursing myself. If he didn't stop me, others would see the intimate gesture, and his disguise would be discovered.
"Sorry…" I apologized in embarrassment.
"They are fakes," Hayden explained as if he could read my mind.
I looked at his scars again. "They look so real…"
"If they don't look real, the Hell Walker Pack members will discover it was just a disguise," he said with a teasing smile.
I felt embarrassed again. Of course, I knew it, but I was just worried about him.
"Lottie, this is for you," he said and handed me a small bottle of spray.
I took the bottle from him and asked, "What's this?"
"It's the scent removal I stole from the Hell Walker Pack," he said.
Scent removal…
"Is this the one you used during the wedding?" I asked.
"It is." He nodded. "And the one I used a few nights ago in your bedroom."
Goddess, did he need to say those words explicitly?!
I put the spray bottle in my handbag to hide my blush.
"Is this the reason they haven't discovered you yet?" I asked him once the spray bottle was safely stored in my bag.
Honestly, since I lost my werewolf's smelling ability, I couldn't really smell the special scents of werewolves, except for Aleksander's pine and musk scent.
I couldn't differentiate the smell of different packs members. Even Hayden only smelled like… male hormones. I wouldn't know he was a member of the Red Claw Pack if I didn't know him before.
"That… and my disguise," he replied as he straightened in his seat. "Lottie, I'll be lurking here for a while to find any useful information."
Remembering the scene of him covered in blood during the wedding, I became worried again. "Hayden, you have to be careful, okay?"
"I will, Lottie," he smiled and stood up.
"Hayden…" I stopped him before he could leave. " I have something to say to you when we get back safely this time."
He looked at me fondly and said, "Yes, I'll wait for the time to come, Lottie."
I saw Aleksander coming out of the VIP room from the corners of my eyes and urged Hayden, "Hayden, Aleksander is coming. You should go now. Be careful."
He nodded and turn around, successfully escaping Aleksander's gaze.
Aleksander approached me, smelling strongly of hormones and messy she-wolves, and I couldn't help but frown when I smelt it.
He pulled me forcefully into his arms and asked, "Where did the bodyguard go?"
"With my ability, it will be easy for me to lose the guard," I told him coldly and tried to push him away. "Let go of me. You reek of sex."
"Are you jealous, little mate?" he asked with a teasing smile.
