Chapter 18
Julia POV
I opened my eyes, looked around, but saw nothing but blue. I think I must still be dreaming, I thought to myself. I was standing in what I assumed was a room, only there were no furniture, no windows, not even any walls. It felt so strange.
Then, very faintly, I heard a soft, weak voice. It was calling my name. I strained to hear, listening as hard as I could to make out what the voice was saying.
After what seemed like an age, I heard two words. Just two.
I heard Onyx and I heard monkshood.
The blue place started to fade, as a light, which started as a small dot, got brighter and brighter until it was all I could see. It was then I realized I had in fact, actually woken up. My eyes were open, and once again, fell on the sleeping man in the chair.
I still didn’t know his name, all I knew was that he was an Alpha, and I seemed to be in his territory.
I pushed myself up the bed, and reached for the full glass of water next to my bed. I tried to lift the glass, unfortunately, the tube, that was attached to the needle in my hand was trapped under my leg. So stretching for the glass, made me gasp, as pain shot through my hand and up my arm.
Alpha tall and gorgeous, as I had started to think of him, was next to my bed in a shot. Taking the glass from me and placing it down.
‘Do you feel ok?’ He asked. Concern clouded his bright green eyes. As they looked at me intently. A small shiver ran down my back, as I stared back at him. My mouth smiling back at him, effortlessly.
‘I feel okay, thank you, Alpha.’ I said, breathlessly. I don’t know why this man had such an effect on me. And I’m sure he could hear my heart rate speed up. Every time he was near me.
He helped me sit up, and once I was propped up against the soft pillows he asked if I was up for a chat.
I smiled at him, nodding. But first; ‘I need to know what to call you, apart from Alpha, of course. Alpha who? And what pack am I in?’
Alpha tall and gorgeous smiled back at me warmly, which set the butterflies in my tummy to flutter.
He held out his hand to me and said, ‘My name is Alpha Reece Cunningham. You are currently my guest, in my pack, the Blood Oath Pack. Does that satisfy your curiosity?’ He smiled warmly, knowing full well that those few questions had done nothing to alleviate my inquisitive mind.
I don’t know why, but every time he has said “My Pack”, it rankled me. Like an irritation under your skin.
It was thinking this that reminded me of my dream. ‘I need to speak to the Doctor; Could You call him for me. Please?’ I expected Alpha Reece to leave the room. Until the door opened and in walked the Doctor, ‘you wanted to see me, Alpha?’ He asked.
‘Not me, Jeremy. Our lady, here. Wanted to speak with you.’
The Doctor turned his head toward me and waited for me to speak.
‘I don’t know if this is relevant in any way, but things have been so strange lately, I thought I’d tell you. Whilst having a dream just now, I was in a blue space, there was nothing in this place. Except a soft, maybe weak voice. It said only two words. But I think they may be important.’
I hoped the Doctor didn’t think me a crazy person. To my astonishment, the doctor simply smiled and waited for me to continue, so I did.
‘Like I said, it was only two words. But they don’t seem to have anything in common, at least, not to my knowledge. Anyway, the words were, Onyx and Monkshood.’ I finished speaking, and assumed the doctor would simply smile and tell me there was nothing for me to worry about. Instead, the doctor ran from the room, shouting something about a sample. And getting to the lab.
My eyebrows rose and I must have looked comical, as Alpha Reece, chuckled softly.
‘Alpha Reece, do I amuse you, sir?’ I quipped.
His smile widen, and my heart gave a flutter. ‘Not amuse, no. You just seem to lighten my heart.’ He said. Then blushed a little, like he had let something slip.
I had never seen a man blush, except for the patients I attended to at work. I gasped. I looked at him and said, excitedly, ‘I’m a nurse. In my packs hospital. I’m a bloody nurse, Alpha Reece!’
‘That’s wonderful, it seems your memory is starting to return, I will inform the doctor at once. If you will excuse me.’ He got out of the low chair and just as he opened the door he turned back and asked, ‘do you remember where the pack hospital was?’
I had to think about that. My memory was so sporadic at the moment. I remember some things with perfect clarity while others just seem to evaporate from my mind. I know that after I woke from the car crash, I remembered Billy. And crashing his car. I also remembered being upset that my sister thought I was a wastrel, thanks to that no good, Alpha to be, Jackson.
My eyes shot to Alpha Reece, ‘I do, I do remember where the pack hospital was located. I used to be a member of the Moons Wane Pack.’
Alpha Reece looked like he had turned to stone. He smiled tightly at me and left my room. That was weird, I thought.
My attention was immediately taken up, by the lovely nurse Walters.
‘Are you ready for a bath, my lady,’ she asked. A little shyly. She was very sweet. And very young. I suddenly realized that the reason I was so soft on her was because she reminded me, of me. I got up from the bed and on shaky legs walked into the bathroom. Whilst in there we chatted about trivial subjects and a little bit of gossip.
I laughed at something Nurse Walters said, saying how much she made me laugh, ‘please, My Lady. If it pleases you, you can call me,Pauline.’
Although the language they used in this pack was very formal, I was slowly getting used to it, and agreed to call her Pauline. This seemed to brighten the girl, to the point where she had tears in her eyes.
I looked at her, puzzlement clearly showing on my face, before I changed it to a smile.
Pauline helped me back to the room, and I chose to sit in the chair, rather than lay back on the bed. After I had a blanket tucked in around my legs, something which wasn’t necessary, but I allowed her to do it, as it seemed to make her happy. I lay my head back against the headrest, and started to have a lovely daydream.
Alpha Reece POV
‘STEVEN!’ I yelled through the link. ‘TO ME. NOW.’ I was fucking furious. I was so angry, I could feel Raven just under the surface. Steven came running at my command. Skidded to a halt just steps away from where I was standing.
‘The Moons Wane Pack had them, Steven. The fucking Moons Wane Pack! Tell me how it is possible that we did not detect them, when we went looking for the family? Explain that to me, Steven!’
I know I was shouting, but I hoped that he knew it was not directed at him. I wanted to know why I had been lied to. All these years, and Julia Mason was in our nearest neighbors territory.
I stood in the corridor and shouted, using something I never used on my pack . But I was that angry, I just couldn’t help it. As I shouted, my Alpha Aura was released. I saw everyone around me go onto their knees as the power of my aura swept over them.
It was during this, that Jeremy came running like the hounds of hell, themselves, were chasing him. ‘Alpha, I know! I know!’ He dived into his office, followed in quick succession by Steven and myself.
‘What do you know?’ I said, desperation clouding my voice.
‘I know why we can barely detect Onyx, and why Our Lady, does not remember this pack, or any of us.’ He directed the last comment towards Steven. Jeremy knew; like I did, just how much he had loved Julia.
We all sat down, as I tried to calm myself, and Raven too. Who was extremely upset by this whole situation. And ready to declare war against the Moons Wane Pack.
‘Speak!’ Was all I said. And Jeremy started to explain what he had just uncovered.
