Chapter 48 he was unmated
Amelia’s P.O.V.
“Ready to go?” Arthur asked me and I grinned widely. I was both excited and nervous. Today was the most crucial day for my whole group, especially for me and my pups.
I took a deep breath and opened the door of our car. I got out and straightened my back. Arthur also got out of the driver’s seat and locked the car.
We were asked to park our car in the general parking lot today. It was progress because last time, we parked our car out of the palace premises.
The general parking lot was behind the guard station at the outside entrance gate.
I took a few deep breaths while moving towards Arthur. My palms were now sweating. I tightened my grip on the strap of my laptop bag.
“Relax, Amelia. If Hunter assured you, then it’s a done deal.” Arthur tried to calm me down, but it only increased my anxiety while walking beside him.
Edwin’s call assured me on behalf of Alexander, but Alexander didn’t say a word about this to me.
We talked through messages almost all day, but he didn’t mention a thing about the approval.
He asked about Xander’s health and the progress of preparing a medicine for Xander through the samples of Alexander’s and my blood serum. We talked about business and a few times, he sought my suggestions on a few problems at the business end.
Hunter kept his promise and didn’t tell Alexander that I am Xander’s mother. I didn’t want to reveal it to anyone else, not to anyone from the royal pack.
Hunter also promised me that he will not try to investigate about Xander’s father, but he was so pissed that day that he would have killed my assaulter with his burning gaze if he had come in front of us that day.
I didn’t blame Xander’s father, though. That day, there were so many alphas, Lunas and betas from the other pack who came to celebrate Bernard’s chosen mate’s birthday. Bernard drugged someone from them who was unmated.
Yes, he was unmated. I could say that, but beyond that, I had no idea about his identity because of my fading senses.
“What are you thinking?” I snapped out of my trance when Arthur called me.
“Nothing.” I replied with a shrug and took a deep breath.
My heart skipped a beat when I saw Edwin standing at the last step of the staircase, going towards the lobby of the palace.
The anticipation that I forgot for a while came back like a storm, making my body shiver a little.
“Stay calm, Amelia. This is a very important day for us.” I comforted myself in my heart while walking towards Edwin.
“Good evening, Ms. Locke.” Edwin greeted me in a polite tone.
“Good evening, Mr. Godwin.” I greeted him back with the same politeness.
“How are you feeling now?” he asked me, keeping the conversation going on; he gestured for me to follow him by his hand.
“Much better. Thanks for asking, Gamma Edwin.” I replied to him in the same polite tone.
Arthur was now walking beside me with a stiff posture. He was always at unease whenever we came in contact with any royal or came to the royal pack.
“King Alexander wants to meet you privately before the meeting. He is waiting for you in his study.” He informed me in the same polite tone, but my grip on the laptop strap tightened.
It had been more than two weeks since we met in person.
I don’t know why, but my heart did a flip in my chest as if I were looking forward to meeting him in person.
“Do you know why?” I asked Edwin in a low and cautious voice.
He chuckled while shaking his head lightly.
“He is the king, Ms. Locke, and I am just a gamma. There is no way that I can predict what he is thinking or what he wants unless I am a mind-reader.” He replied to me jokingly and winked in the end.
I passed a tight smile, trying to suppress my giggle, but Arthur couldn’t stop himself.
“I am sorry, Gamma Edwin. I…. I didn’t mean any offense.” Arthur apologized quickly while covering his mouth with his knuckle to hide that smile.
“It’s okay, Arthur. In the coming days, we will be working together. So, it’s okay to joke a little.” Edwin replied in a light tone, which took me off guard.
I noticed that Edwin’s hostility towards me had vanished completely. Of course, we talked twice after he called me when I was in the hospital, but he was understanding and polite all the time.
I thought about asking Alexander later. He stopped outside Alexander’s chamber, making us stop too.
“You know your way to his office from here, Ms. Locke. I need to stop here to keep Mr. Moore accompanied.” He spoke to me in a firm and gentle voice.
“Give me your laptop.” Arthur asked me hurriedly when I was about to move forward.
I nodded once and gave the laptop to him.
After taking a deep breath, I started walking in the direction of his scent. It was strong in the corridor.
Mixed of pine and cinnamon. My favorite scent by now.
I stopped at the end of the corridor and was about to knock on his door when I heard him calling me inside.
The heaviness of his voice churned something in my stomach.
My heartbeat raced and I felt anxious. I checked my gloves and my scarf on my neck.
The warmth of his embrace from the last time still had a lingering effect on my mind.
I opened the door and slowly walked inside.
I stopped once again when I saw him standing in the middle of the room with his back in my direction.
He had removed his suit jacket. His left hand was thrust inside his pant pocket while he was holding something in his right hand. The pristine white shirt was hugging his body perfectly, giving the shape of his sculpted muscles.
“Closed the door, Amelia.” He instructed in a low and throaty voice, his voice still heavy with a hint of stiffness.
I moved back and closed the door. I was now more anxious than I already was. I could feel sweat on my palms.
“Goo…. Good evening, King Alexander.” I greeted him anxiously, lacking the confidence that I always had in my voice.
“Come here.” He ordered in the same tone.
I gulped hard before walking towards him. The silence stretched but my anxiety increased with every step that I took towards him.
“Do …. Do you have something to discuss with me?” I asked him, trying to stay calm, but my mind became foggy because of his scent around me.
I stopped behind him and cleared my throat. My hands were clasped behind my back.
He slowly moved towards me, and before I could move my head up so that I could see his face, my whole body tensed up when he suddenly pulled me into his embrace.
