Chapter 22 he made me worry
Amelia’s P.O.V. (Continued)
“What’s going on, Amelia? Did we offend him in any way?” Arthur asked me anxiously.
I was also confused about why Noal Hatfield asked me to meet him. While preparing the proposal, I specifically ensured that I wouldn’t submit any case related to any of the council members or their families.
“Ms. Locke. He doesn’t like waiting for anyone.” The guard warned me sternly. His tone was still polite, showing enough respect to me.
I took a deep breath and slowly stood up. “I am coming with you.” Arthur murmured anxiously.
“No, Mr. Moore. He requested her to come alone.” The guard informed, sounding a little impatient now.
I stiffened because I didn’t want to leave Arthur alone among them. “You are coming with me, Arthur. Just stay outside the door so that I can feel your presence.” I instructed him calmly while moving around my chair to get out.
Arthur had already packed our bags. “Ms. Locke. Are you sure that you want to go against his instructions?” The guard asked me mockingly.
“He asked me to meet him alone, I guess, but he didn’t say a word about my assistant staying outside his chamber, did he?” I questioned him back calmly refusing to back down.
He growled but didn’t say a word again.
“Let’s go.” I said to Arthur calmly and walked towards the door.
We stopped when I sensed gamma Edwin’s presence outside the meeting room.
“The king requested you to stop for the lunch. He has a few things with you. Let’s go.” He said to me and I frowned.
“I beg your pardon, Gamma Edwin, but the guard here just informed me that counsellor Noel Hotfield wants to meet me.” I informed him, bit confused by the situation.
“What?” he frowned and looked at the guard standing at some distance from him.
“He is waiting for her in his chamber, Gamma Edwin. He asked her to meet him alone.” The guard informed him, stuttering a little in fear.
“Did you inform the king about it?” Gamma Edwin asked him sternly.
“Not yet, Gamma Edwin.” The guard answered in a timid voice, shrinking his shoulders in fear.
I didn’t speak a word because it wasn’t my concern. We were in the palace, and deception is evident in the air here.
Arthur was still holding my hand tightly.
For a few seconds, Edwin didn’t speak. I guess he mind-linked someone.
“Let me escort you to his chamber, Ms. Locke.” He said to me in a stiff tone, still glaring at the warrior, who was now shrinking so badly to minimize his presence.
We followed Edwin silently. “Are you sure that you will be okay inside the chamber? He is still an alpha by blood.” Arthur asked me worriedly through mind-link.
“I guess Edwin informed the king. I am sure that he will ensure our safety first.” I assured him through mind-link.
“How are you so sure about it?” Arthur questioned, doubting my words.
“Because he knows that our group is the largest and the strongest rogue group. Above all, we care about our people. If anything happens to us here, our whole group will be at their doorstep, and it will only bring devastation to both sides.” I clarified the reason that I had in my mind.
“I think you are right.” He agreed.
We stopped abruptly when Edwin stopped in front of us.
“Wait for me here.” He commanded us before opening a large door. The palace was decorated with modern décor. Luxury dripped at every corner, but it still felt cold.
They had French windowsills with colorful glasses, and they had graffiti around the frame, giving it a modern look.
Well, it was weird too. I didn't remember seeing this kind of decoration anywhere else.
What to say here, though. He is the king. He can decorate his palace as he wishes.
Edwin came out after some time. He had a grim expression on his face, and his body language indicated that he wasn't comfortable with this meeting.
“He wants to talk to you alone, Ms. Locke. Are you sure that you will be okay alone?” he asked me, showing some concern for the first time.
“Thanks for your concern, Gamma Edwin. I trust you guys with my safety.” I assured him with a faint smile.
He nodded and gestured for me to enter the room.
“Wait for me here.” I instructed Arthur and took the laptop bag from him.
I didn’t know why Noel Hatfield wanted to meet me, but I didn’t want to go inside unprepared. I took a deep breath before knocking on the door.
Even if Edwin had already gotten permission for my entry, I need to show my manners.
“Come in.” A heavy and cold voice was heard from inside.
Edwin opened the door for me, and I entered the chamber.
“Counsellor Noel Hatfield.” I bent my waist in a respectful bow in front of him.
“No need for the courtesy, Amelia. Have a seat.” He asked in the same tone. I walked to the desk and thanked him before taking a chair in front of him.
“How many pups under 10 are in your group, Amelia?” he asked me in the same tone after I settled myself on the chair.
I stiffened immediately. We gave a rough number of our people, but not the breakdown. Our pups can be counted as our weakness.
“I know what’s going on in your mind, Amelia, but I assure you that not a word of our conversation went out of this room. You have my words, and if you have already done your homework on me, you know that I never break my promise.” He assured me in his own way.
“It… it’s not about doubting you, Counsellor Noel. You… you can say it my motherly instinct to protect them.” I explained my fear with the easiest reason that came in my mind.
He chuckled, but I felt unease in my heart. He was the most cunning alpha known at his timeline.
“It’s not like only rogues have a bad impression outside; the royal pack, especially the council, also has the same impression outside, right?” he asked, a hint of tease in his tone, but it only made me uncomfortable. I passed a stiff smile, waiting for him to get to the point of why he called me here.
He sighed and slowly leaned on the table. I didn’t look straight at him. He was experienced enough to read me like an open book.
“How old is your pup, Amelia?” I froze as soon as he asked the next question.
