Chapter 27 they raised question
Lucifer’s P.O.V.

“We heard that you brought a strategist with you and accepted her as a pack member without discussing it with us.” I stared at Casper, an elder council member, coldly when he raised the question.
“Since when do I need to do everything with you guys that I wish to do?” I questioned him coldly.
He stiffened and looked at the other members of the council.
I also looked at all of them with the same coldness.
“What? Am I too lenient with you guys that you assumed me as your puppet instead of your king?” I questioned them coldly, my gaze pierced everyone.
“It…. It’s not like that, my king. You… you got us wrong.” Casper spoke again, stuttering a little in fear.
“And how did I get you guys wrong?” I questioned immediately, impatience and anger evident in my voice.
The royal elder council consisted of a few retired powerful alphas, and with the passage of time, they started thinking that they had wrapped me around their fingers.
I didn’t pay attention to their antics before, but I took this objection as a direct challenge to my decision.
They looked at each other while lowering their heads.
The silence in my office was so thick with tension that it could be cut with a knife.
“You guys are here to guide me in taking care of matters related to the disputes between packs or anything that can harm our interests as werewolves, not to raise questions over trivial matters like taking a pack member,” I spoke coldly in an authoritative tone.
I could feel that they wanted to say something, but they still kept their heads hung low.
I waited for them to speak again, and as I expected, Aliana, the former Luna of the Azure Lake Pack, and one of the best economists of her time, spoke in a low voice.
“That girl has no wolf, my king.”
“And yet she put her life at risk to save my life when I was attacked,” I remarked without giving a second of pause between our statements.
She slowly looked up. Her eyes were calm but also troubled at the same time.
It had been two days since our return, and by now the whole pack knew how Amber saved my life, fought with me, and killed so many rogues without her wolf.
“You guys have been in the council for more than ten years. Of course, you all are aware of the absence of her wolf, aren’t you?” I questioned them again, locking my gaze with Aliana.
She pursed her lips into a thin line and looked at Marcus Stanford, the former alpha of the Stone Shade Pack, the senior-most member of the council.
He had an expressionless face.
I also looked at Marcus, raising my brows questioningly.
“She is not a threat to our pack, but this can raise a heated argument among the packs, my king,” Marcus spoke calmly, his authority as an alpha still evident in his tone, but this did not affect me.
“And I also praised her for being such a fierce and strong warrior. Even without her wolf, I heard that she killed more than ten wolves while protecting you. That’s impressive.” He continued in calculated words.
“But.” He paused, and I smirked internally.
“They also said that you used your authority to make Adrian break the pack bond between her and Adrian. This can raise a question for you.” He added, and I laughed while shaking my head.
Of course, it was humorless laughter as if I were mocking them to manipulate the words like this.
“Did you know that her whole family rejected their bonds at the same time?” I asked him, and his eyes widened in surprise.
I laughed mockingly, and his jaw ticked.
“Of course, you don’t know,” I added mockingly and then glared at all of them.
“Who here is not familiar with the name David Holt?” I asked them coldly.
Marcus’ brows shot up to his hairline. Aliana also raised her brows in surprise.
“He broke the pack bond with the Dark Shadow Pack the second I proposed to take Amber to the Royal Pack. If you know him, I am sure that I don’t need to tell you why a wolf like him would do something like this, do I?” I questioned again, feeling impatient now.
“For your information, the whole Holt family is now a member of the royal pack. Adrian and his Luna didn’t even try to persuade them not to leave the pack. They just rejected them as quickly as possible, as if they couldn’t wait, discarding them like trash.”
I didn’t need to explain things to them, but they needed to understand the severity of the situation.
The one who should be in question is Adrian, not me.
“How could Adrian do something like this, so recklessly? The Holt family is …. Is like the backbone of the Dark Shadow Pack. Banishing them from the pack? Has Adrian lost his mind?” Casper whispered through his teeth, disbelief evident in his voice.
“But this is true. Now the Holt family is the royal pack member. I couldn’t just let them go rogue when they did nothing wrong. So, I don’t think that I need to explain my action to everyone.” I replied to him coldly and took a deep breath.
“If…. If you guys have any problem with my decision, first investigate and get your facts straight before approaching me.” I scolded them impatiently.
“And stop calling that girl wolf-less when you all know that her wolf shifted before age and protected her human, something that a wolf will do without any second thought,” I added angrily; a low growl erupted from my chest at the same time.
It was Beast who was also pissed with their questioning over Amber’s presence here.
“But things aren’t that simple, my king,” Marcus spoke again, keeping his voice low, but I sensed trouble in his voice.
I furrowed my brows, waiting for him to speak again.
"Explain," I demanded when Marcus didn't speak further.
