Chapter 14 telling them the truth
Chapter 14 telling them the truth
Amber’s P.O.V.
“Amber.” I stopped and immediately looked at Daniel with a worried frown.
“Why are you here, brother?” I asked him worriedly.
He didn’t stop, though.
Instead, he took my hand and dragged me outside the packhouse.
I knew that he wasn’t happy with this transfer and my agreement, and I don’t know how to tell him that I am just desperate to leave this pack.
I knew I needed to tell him but didn’t know how.
If I request a transfer after the royal convoy goes away, Adrian will never let me go. It’s better to go to the royal pack first and then leave the pack after severing the bond with Lucifer.
Another plan forming in my mind, I walked beside Daniel.
“Why did you not refuse, Amber? You know that we will never leave, and yet instead of fighting for the family, you just accepted?” he questioned, still angry with my decision.
I looked around and breathed out in relief that we didn’t have anyone around us who could hear our conversation.
I smiled and took his hand in both of mine.
“Actually, I was planning to leave the pack and go to the city to work in the company, bro,” I told him in a hushed voice.
His eyes immediately widened.
I closed the distance between us and decided to tell him what Adrian asked me yesterday so that Daniel could understand why I must leave the pack now.
I whispered everything in his ear.
“He dares,” Daniel growled in anger, but I held him tightly and stopped him.
“Leave it, bro. In fact, think this transfer is a blessing for me. Adrian would never let go of me easily. And you know David very well.” I spoke calmly but convincingly, bringing David’s protective stance towards me.
“You think that I will be able to work under a man who had filthy thoughts about my sister, Amber?” He asked me accusingly, and I sighed softly.
“Nah, bro. I was about to tell you guys last night, but with everything that happened, I was so tired that I didn’t say a word. Now, with this opportunity, let me go away, and then you and David can leave the pack too. We don’t need to stay in this pack anymore.” I replied to him in a serious tone.
He didn’t say a word in reply, but continued glaring at me.
I tried to smile just like I always do but couldn’t bring myself to smile.
The silence that fell between us felt heavy.
“Let’s go home, bro. We need to talk to David and Laila, too.” I whispered while lowering my head.
“Why are you ashamed of, huh? You did nothing wrong. In fact, you saved their sorry aes last night. It…. It’s good th… that you are getting this transfer. I swear to the goddess that I will beat the st out of Adrian before leaving this pack.” Daniel comforted me angrily, holding me into his side embrace.
I felt tears in my eyes, but his embrace brought me the comfort that I was seeking.
“Let’s go.” Daniel muttered and held my hand again.
The walk back home felt longer than usual.
Both I and Daniel were drowned in our own thoughts.
Lucifer’s command rang in my mind again, bringing the restlessness and heartache again.
You will be transferred to the Royal Pack.
The command had been simple, clean, unquestionable. And yet, it left behind a storm I couldn’t quiet.
Because no matter what, it was still an indirect rejection.
Daniel walked beside me in silence, his presence steady but tense. I could feel his thoughts brushing against mine through the link, restless, protective, unsettled
I was grateful for his warmth, which was keeping me stable enough to face another storm that was awaiting me at home.
By the time we reached our villa, my chest felt heavy, as if I had been holding my breath the entire way. The familiar sight of home should have comforted me, but today—it didn’t feel the same.
It felt like I was already leaving it behind.
The moment we stepped inside, David stood up from the couch abruptly, his sharp eyes scanning my face. Laila followed right behind him, her expression filled with concern.
Tears brimmed in my eyes again.
“What happened?” David asked immediately, his voice low but firm, taking me in his side embrace to comfort me.
Daniel exhaled harshly beside me.
“The king….. he transferred Amber in the Royal Pack as the lead strategist under royal beta Ethan’s command,” Daniel told them flatly without softening his voice.
“What? But why?” Laila exclaimed sharply, fear and worry evident in her voice.
“Because Adrian kept on getting on the king’s nerves by scolding Amber for some irrelevant reasons, like why she left the borders when she saw the king being attacked outside the border,” Daniel replied to her in the same way.
“What?” David roared aloud; anger radiated from his body immediately, but I put my hand on his chest, and Laila put her hand on his chest from the other side to calm him.
“He….. he dares to insult Pearl for saving the king?” David asked angrily; his body trembled hard under my touch.
“Calm down, bro. The king not only put him in his place but also announced that Amber’s skills are far above this pack’s needs.” Daniel explained, and I felt grateful to him because I didn’t know how to tell David about this without breaking down.
“And what did you do, Amber?” David asked me sternly.
I gulped hard and looked at him with tearful eyes.
“Amber,” Laila called me softly; her other hand instinctively moved to her stomach, a protective gesture while looking at me with a fearful gaze.
“She accepted, bro,” Daniel told them in a low and angry voice.
My heart dropped in my belly when David growled lowly, displeasure and disbelief evident in his voice.
“But she did the right thing, David. After wh… what that btard asked her….. leaving this pack is the right thing.” Daniel continued in the same tone, but anger started rising in his voice.
Now I was regretting telling Daniel. He should have told David after I left, not now.
“What do you mean by what that btard asked her?” Laila asked angrily, coming towards me protectively.
“Daniel,” I called him warningly, but it was too late.
“Don’t Daniel him, Amber.” David scowled at me threateningly. I immediately shrieked behind him in fear.
“The btard asked her to be his mistress, David. Can you imagine his audacity?” Daniel didn’t hold back anything, nor did he show any hesitation before speaking that word.
“What?” Both David and Laila roared in shock, and anger almost blasted the roof of our home.
For the next few seconds, I held my breath because the air was thickened with tension.
I kept my head lowered in guilt.
“When did this happen?” David asked me coldly, making the temperature around me drop by some degrees.
“Yesterday,” I whispered, my chin almost touching my chest.
“And you are telling us now?” David accused me angrily, making me shrink my shoulders in guilt.
