THE MEETING

THE MEETING

"Greetings, father," the three children greeted in unison as the Alpha King assumed his throne. He waved them a reply and the three straightened up from their bowing position.

The royal council sat spread from the throne of the Alpha King, and waited for the king to speak.

"Welcome children," the Alpha King said in his reverberating baritone that Melvin took after. The three stood at the foot of his throne with Melvin in the middle, and Elvin and Kiara by his either side. Behind them were the special soldiers dressed in their warrior's tunic and had their weapons strapped to their sides.

The air was tense and hot compared to the coolness outside the throne room.

"The reason for today's gathering is already known to us, as the Peking Pack would be making their viciousness and strength known in the warfront again. And our victory news would be heard all around the packs and amongst all men," the Alpha King said in obvious pride.

Unlike him and his royal council, the soldiers and his children kept a straight face, staring straight ahead.

"Today, my son, the Alpha Prince, Melvin, will be leading the special soldiers and other soldiers to the warfront against the Grey Moon pack. They have been a hard nut to crack, and our calmness had been their motivation. But now, we move to crush them," he added amidst cheers from the royal council members, and Melvin bowed slightly to show acknowledgement.

"And the drainage construction that we have been talking about for a while now, my son, Elvin, will be spearheading the project. As he seems the man for the business. A man with a good head on his neck when it comes to the political, economic and societal disposition of the kingdoms," the Alpha King said and Elvin bowed slightly.

Thanks for the compliment

Elvin thought and could feel his brother think the direct opposite.

"And my Beta Princess, Kiara, would be the commander of the system of the pack until her brothers are back from this war," he said in a way that it would please his daughter, knowing she would have loved to be in the battlefield fighting for their pack.

Oh, thank goodness. I would have time to spend with my new and only friend, Audrey.

Kiara muttered under her breath as a smile threatened to spread across her face.

"We are really proud of Princess Kiara, she is of great importance to the pack," one of the council members said and others nodded in agreement.

Kiara knew that the men would not want to praise any of the two princes to avoid another bout of arguments.

"Meeting dismissed," the Alpha King said calmly, so as to have them leave before they started throwing shades at each other.

"Our Almighty Alpha Prince, Melvin! The next in line for the throne," Kiara joked as they walked out after the soldiers had marched out.

"Come off it," Melvin replied tiredly.

"That's pride speaking," Elvin joked and a smile crept up Melvin's lips and disappeared almost immediately. Kiara smiled at the fact that Elvin could still humour him.

"Make sure you win the war," Elvin added in mock seriousness and Melvin nodded weakly.

"Make sure you do a great job on the drainage pathway," Kiara said to Elvin and he smirked.

"And you should also guard this palace with your life," Melvin muttered under his breath, and Kiara brushed him playfully before they parted ways.

"Just like old days," the royal council member said again with tears welling up in his eyes.

How long did I sleep?

I sat up from the bed and turned to the window, the sun had set already and Kiara was not by my side anymore. My head pounded with a migraine, but that wasn't going to be enough reasons to stop me from leaving this room and making good use of this chance I had.

The night before, I could remember that Kiara had told me that there would a short but important meeting with the King concerning the war and other developments in the pack. So I believed that they would be in the meeting at the moment. So I had to rush to the room– my matrimonial room, take my bath, change into another dress and leave before Melvin finds me and probably kill me this time.

I knew I had to do this, if possible, at the speed of light, but here I was with a migraine threatening to split my head into two. I mustered as much strength as I could and walked out of the room. My hasty steps clapped against the polished floor as I half-ran to my room.

Inside the room, I dropped my clothes and rushed into the bathroom. I would have preferred a hot water bath, but there was no time to prepare that. So I allowed the cold water wash over my body, cleaning me up– my memories of my selfish father, of my past, of yesterday, the nightmares. But I still held back the memories of my mother, my sister, Kelly, and anything that seemed positive, at least.

The water poured over my body and I scrubbed my body, I touched my neck and didn't feel the scar of the wound I believed the Almighty Alpha Prince, Melvin had inflicted on me yesterday. The thought of yesterday almost brought tears to my eyes because it was scary and I felt life flash before me. And almost immediately, blinded by his anger and hatred for his brother, Elvin had almost killed me.

Time to stop thinking and leave before I am caught and receive another beating, or even get killed this time.

I rushed out of the bathroom at the realization that I may have spent so much time in there. But as I hurried to my dressing corner, I stopped short.

Who was I seeing? Melvin?

I was standing before Melvin, totally
