Chapter 21 Unwanted Guest
Chapter 21 Unwanted Guest
Things have been strangely calm for the past two days, Malik hasn’t been in my business and it feels really good but deep down I feel like it’s not going to be like that for long as I know how crazy he is.
At dinner table, I couldn’t help but notice how Malik was tensed. He was eating but he wasn’t paying much attention to his meal. It was almost as if his mind was elsewhere.
He had his usual angry face on, but this time he looked even angrier, as if someone had done something to him.
Maybe they had. He’s been on calls lately, always upset about things I don’t know. Maybe it’s about Dominic, or maybe about someone else, but whatever it is, he’s not having it.
As we kept eating, my eyes were on him and I couldn’t help but quietly ask, "Is everything good with you?" It’s not like I care, but I was curious.
He glanced at me briefly and rolled his eyes. "Mind your damn business."
My eyes bulged in shock. I couldn’t believe I cared enough to ask, and all he could say was that. I really should’ve minded my business.
"I was just trying to check on you, no big deal," I said.
"Did I ask you for that?" He shot back, clearly irritated.
"You are so difficult. No wonder no one likes you."
He scoffed. "I love it like that. I don’t want people hovering around liking me. It’s better they fear me and hate me."
That was such a weird thing to say.
Suddenly, Malik’s phone started to ring. He glanced at it, and his whole mood shifted—he looked even more upset.
He muttered something under his breath as he picked up the call and stormed out of the room, yelling. I couldn’t make out what he was saying, but whatever it was, it had really gotten him angry.
Left alone in the dining room, I turned to Steven, who was stationed by the door.
"Any idea why Malik is so upset?"
He shrugged. "When is he never upset?"
"You’re right but now it just feels strange you know."
"Why do you care?" He grunted
"It’s not like I care. I’m just curious." I said
"Well, either way I don’t know."
"Okay," I said, then finished eating and walked out.
Just as I was about to head to the room, I heard noises outside. It sounded like people arguing and not just anyone. I could swear Malik was out there too.
I didn’t want to check, but curiosity got the best of me. Stepping outside, I froze when I saw Malik with two women. One looked like she was in her late forties, the other in her early twenties.
"There she is, Mom," The younger one said, her eyes narrowed at me from head to toe.
All eyes turned to me. I gave a small, awkward smile, but Malik’s gaze snapped to me, his frustration clear.
He grabbed my hand and yanked me aside.
"What the fuck are you doing outside?"
"I heard noises and wanted to check," I replied.
"And who gave you the right to do that?" His grip on my wrist tightened.
"I can do whatever I want to do. Now let go of my hand."
He scoffed "You’ve become very stubborn."
I rolled my eyes. "Guess who I learnt it from?"
His grip tightened.
I winced. "Let go of my hand."
"Go back inside!" He barked. "Now!"
He finally released me, and I stared at him in shock. Why didn’t he want me to meet them? Was he hiding something?
I turned to leave, but one of the women suddenly called out.
"Where are you going?"
I stopped and looked back. She walked toward me, while Malik fumed on the side.
"You must be Eliana."
I nodded.
She smiled warmly. "I’m Jessica, Malik’s mother. And this is Emma, his sister."
My eyes widened, though I quickly masked my reaction. His mother and sister? I couldn’t believe it. But why was he so upset about them being here? Did he just hate all his family? Because right now, it sure looked that way.
Emma stepped forward. "It’s nice to finally meet you, Eliana. We would’ve attended the wedding, but someone didn’t invite us—or even tell us."!She rolled her eyes at Malik, who looked completely unfazed.
That explained why none of his family members had been there.
"You seem like you’re an omega. Is that so?" Jessica asked.
I glanced nervously at Malik before quietly answering. "Yes, I am."
"Ohh." She gushed, then turned to him. "An omega as Luna? What were you thinking?"
Malik said nothing. He wouldn’t even look at her.
Emma spoke instead. "It’s fine, Mom. Omega or not, she’s still part of the family—and our new Luna. She’s even prettier than the other one."
My brows knitted. "Who?"
Before they could respond, Malik quickly cut in.
"I think you’ve talked enough. Go back inside," He told me.
Jessica and Emma exchanged hopeful fake smiles as they looked at me.
"We will see you later Eliana," Emma said
"You can call me Eli," I said
She looked like she was a bit disappointed by the name and then casually smiled to cover it "Sure."
I turned around to leave. As I was walking away, I heard Emma say, "She looks exactly like her, Malik. How did you find her?"
My heart dropped. Just like who?
Malik snapped back, "It’s none of your business. And you shouldn’t even be here. I need you both to leave."
"You and I both know we’re not here to leave, Malik. Stop with the nonsense. Whatever she’s doing here with you is absolutely ridiculous, so drop it and end this before your father comes and sees her."
"He’s never going to see her," Malik growled. His voice cracked as he spoke. "And no one should mention her to him." He warned.
A moment later, I heard footsteps which of no doubt are Malik’s. He’s walking away.
I stood frozen, my mind racing. I had to find out what was going on. But before I could uncover the truth, I needed to get closer to his family, to learn more about them—and to figure out exactly who they were talking about.
