Chapter 28
Chapter 28
VIVIAN'S POV
"What do you mean?" I asked.
"Honey, sit down," my mother said, sitting on the bed and patting the space beside her.
I stared at her, not able to move. I shook my head, stumbling backward. "Just tell me. I don't need to sit."
She sighed. "It would be much easier if you weren't looking at me like I slapped you. Come on now. Your father will be home soon and freak out if he knows I'm telling you any of this. It's best to discuss this now when he's not around."
I eyed the space next to her and moved to sit on the edge of the bed, a distance away from her. I felt she was about to tell me I wouldn't like it. Like she'd been hiding something from me. "I'm listening."
She looked down at her hands, hesitating. "I'm not sure where to start. But as you know, I used to be a rogue but before that, I was part of another pack. Did I ever tell you which pack?"
I shook my head. She'd never told me anything about her time before she'd joined ours. It's like she hadn't existed beforehand. Her life started here. She continued. "I was part of the Blackmoon Pack."
She paused, allowing me a moment to process the information. Not only did Blackmoon dwarf our pack dwarf ours, but they were also known to be ruthless and bloodthirsty. The fact she was thrown out was shocking. They were devout loyalists. How she got out alive was a marvel on its own. "How did you leave alive?"
"Because it wasn't just me...they granted me mercy..."
"What do you mean?"
She closed her eyes, a tear rolling down her cheek. "I was pregnant."
I felt like someone had delivered someone had delivered a kick directly to my stomach. "What? I have a sibling?"
She let out an exasperated sigh. "No."
"Then..."
"It was you."
"Dad comes from Blackmoon also?"
"Really, Vivian? Are you really this clueless?" She stood, starting to pace.
"I..."
She cut me off. "Your father isn't your father. Greywood took me in as a pregnant rogue, and your father and I married. He knew I was pregnant and accepted you as his own. He raised you as his. As far as either of us is concerned, he is your father. Your blood father is nothing."
I stood now. "But who is he? Why did you get rejected from Blackmoon?"
She waved a hand at me. "I've said enough. You don't need to know the details. But I will tell you this. You don't need to leave these walls. Bloodmoon was not happy with your birth, and if they find you, who knows what they'll do? I was given specific instructions not to show my face. And I can't imagine what they'd do if they saw my pup."
"I'm expected to live in fear for something I had no part in and which I don't even know the full story? Unlikely," I argued.
"Vivian," she started.
I spun around, heading out of the room. Suddenly, the front door opened, and my father called out, "Honey, I'm home!"
We would no longer discuss this, and I'm leaving these walls. It didn't matter what sort of feud my mother started 18 years ago with a pack I had nothing to do with.
Part of me felt the urge to find my blood father, but would that be a death sentence?
Ivy kept me up all night. For once, she was awake and restless. She'd all but abandoned me since the rejection, but knowing there was a missing piece for us, she wanted answers.
'Find him. Find answers.'
'I can't just go to another pack and march in and start demanding they tell me about some scandal from 18 years ago.'
'Find him."
I rolled over, trying to quiet her. Something told me it was necessary. I couldn't go alone; that much was certain. Someone with Alpha aura would need to come with me...
"You want to go where?" Zeke screeched.
"I want to visit the Blackmoon pack."
Zeke rubbed his temples. "Look, I have no doubt we can handle ourselves. But my father will have my head. He will see it as us trying to start things with another pack. We have no business there."
"I do."
"No, you don't. I know I started you on this journey of self-discovery, but I had no idea your mom came from there. If I had known it led back there, I never would have said anything. Just forget about it. We're not going."
I shrugged. "Either you come with me, or I'm going alone. Simple as that."
Zeke groaned. "I hate you right now."
"For an Alpha, you're kind of a scary wolf."
"You've never seen my dad pissed…"
Tomorrow. We'll go tomorrow. It may be where we'd need to go to find answers for Chris, but it was in the right direction to find answers for myself, and I couldn't ignore this once it surfaced.
Someone at Blackmoon may know some information about other rogues and Samantha. That would make this trip a lot more useful, and we could run into other rogues along the way. It was a day's walk there. Zeke was preparing our travel necessities tonight. He knew more about that than I did.
Chris had been right about me being weak and unfit for so many things. Chris, I missed him so much. I needed to get him back. I felt like I was betraying him by spending so much time with Zeke, but this was the only way to get him back. I'd make it up to him once things were fixed.
With that thought in mind, I turned over in my bed, closed my eyes, and willingly went to sleep; I needed to be well-rested for tomorrow's journey.
