Chapter 80 - Rejected by My Best Friend & Alpha
VIVIAN'S POV
"Hello, beautiful," Chris whispered in my ear.
"Hello, handsome," I whispered, trying not to wake our twin boys in the bassinet before me.
I turned around, wrapping my arms around his neck, pressing my lips to his, and continued in a hushed voice, "Are our guests here?"
He nodded. "They just made it. I think she and Killian are fighting, though. But she's as big as a house."
I grinned. "He probably said something as stupid as you just said."
Chris opened his mouth to argue, but I held my finger up. "Don't. Just accept that you shouldn't say a pregnant woman is huge and go on about your day."
He shrugged. "You're right."
I glanced at our boys before slipping past Chris and heading towards the living room, where our guests were waiting.
Divinity and Killian tried to visit at least once a month when time allowed. Despite the demands of being Alpha and Luna of our packs, we always tried to spend time together as friends. However, since Divinity became pregnant six months ago, getting her to come over has been challenging. She hasn't felt much like socializing or traveling, as she has been having a difficult pregnancy and has been quite cranky.
I can't say I blamed her. From the sounds of it, she was probably pregnant with twins.
After leaving Blackmoon and coming back to Greywood, everyone was outraged that Zeke had been killed. Initially, blaming me, seeing as the whole "murdered Zade" hadn't been entirely cleared up yet. But after a lot of talking and clearing the air...everyone finally accepted Chris as the new Alpha. Not wholeheartedly, and then me as Luna. A couple challenged him and then were promptly put in their palce.
It wasn't long before our mating ceremony, and then, immediately after, we became pregnant with twins. We wasted absolutely no time.
During this time, I helped Divinity woo Killian, which was a lot easier than we thought. We suspected he was already secretly in love with her but just in denial about it in the first place. We weren't sure what it was, but he ended up falling head over heels. But they fought. A lot. I wasn't sure if it was part of their foreplay or how they loved it. But it worked out for them, and they were great together.
Entering the living room, I saw the two sitting on opposite ends of the couch. Chris was right. Divinity was quite robust. She was super pregnant. I was predicting twins. "Didi! Look at you!"
Divinity's face lit up. "Vi! Finally, I have a face I don't feel like smacking!"
Killian huffed. "Like you dare to do that."
Divinity shot a glare at him. "Keep testing me, Kill. Keep testing me and see what happens."
I bit back a smile. "So what are you two fighting about this?"
She waved her hand. "Nothing important."
Killian laughed. "Oh, no. Let's see if she thinks it's as crazy as I think. Please share your perspective, Vivian."
"Uh..."
Killian stood now. "I jokingly said she seemed to be eating for three instead of two. Because she was eating a lot at dinner and having snacks after dinner, too.”
I held my hand to my mouth. “No. No, you didn’t say that.”
Divinity glared at him. "And why would you say that?"
"Because you were eating a lot."
I just shook my head, my hand over my mouth. Yeah, he was in the dog house. "I can't help you there, bud."
He threw his hands up. "Whatever."
He fell back down on the couch. I turned back towards Divinity, rubbing her shoulders. "Speaking of...I am getting..."
Divinity looked at me excitedly. "Twins."
I squealed. "Are you sure?"
She nodded. "Positive. I can tell. I had my mom do a reading and check. Definitely."
I jumped up and down. "Twin sisters!"
Killian jumped up. "Wait, what?"
Divinity rolled her eyes. "We're having twins, Kill."
His eyes widened. "You told her before you told me?"
Divinity gasped. "What are you talking about? You were there with my mom!"
"I thought she was talking about two babies eventually! Not two at once!"
Killian looked like he was about to faint. I covered my mouth, trying not to laugh. Chris finally decided to make his appearance. I held out my arm. "Babe, come here and comfort Killian. He's scared of twins."
Chris scooted up under my arm, nuzzling my neck. "Is the big bad Alpha afraid of babies, Killian?"
Killian shot a glare at Chris. "Watch it, new dog."
They were friends. Sometimes, they were rough-housed, but ultimately, they were friends now. Killian was happy, and Chris was delighted. It never felt like there was hidden animosity in their little jibes at each other. At first, there may have been, but once Divinity had come into the picture, especially once they started dating, that animosity faded until it was gone entirely. Killian might have a bruised ego, but it healed once he fell in love. Love can do that to you.
I listened as the two started discussing the pros and cons of twin babies and stepped away. Divinity watched on, giggling as Killian's jaw dropped in horror.
Knowing my babies were in the next room, watching the three brought me so much joy. My parents were at their house, safe and content. They were making up what they hadn't been as parents by being grandparents already. Chris was already an excellent Alpha, taking his job very seriously, and everyone respected him and me as Luna.
I’d even heard whispers around the pack that he was respected more than Zade and Zeke. Zeke hadn’t been given much of a chance as Alpha.
The mention of Zeke still stung a little because despite what he became, I still had plenty of good memories of him, and he had been an essential part of my life for a very long time.
Looking at my friends now, I shoved the thought of Zeke out of my mind and thought of the here and now. My friends now, my family now.
This all started with me being rejected by my best friend and future Alpha. And now I was married to my best friend and Alpha.
