Chapter 112

Chapter 112
It had already been twenty-four hours since the news of Kael’s kidnapping spread through town, twenty-four hours since Rashel last saw her child. The media had headlines that said, ‘The missing prince,’ while others called it ‘A tale of tragedy,’ referring to her wedding that had been cancelled because of the interruption. But none of these mattered to Rashel. Tragedy, Rashel. What was of utmost concern to her was finding Kael.

Milla had run the license plates but came up with nothing, Rashel—nothing; it turned out that both of them were fakes. Now, on Jethro’s orders, she was looking up all the cars of the same model registered in Denver. So far, nothing had come up—nothing—and for some reason, Rashel was certain that they wouldn’t find anything.

Whoever took Kael wanted them to go on a wild goose chase, she was sure. It wasn’t someone who wanted money or anything, anything; it was definitely someone who wanted to get back at her. Since the incident, she had confined herself to the east wing office. She got up from the chair where she sat, clicking away at the keyboard, and moved to the board. She wrote the names of her suspects and their motives and tried to connect the dots to anything.

VIOLA. She wants dots. She wants to get rid of Seth, and I’m most likely in her way. Very unlikely to use Kael for this motive.

MERIKH. Very likely to do something like this. But we’ll need Viola’s help.

SETH. May want, but I got revenge because I used him to get to Viola.

VERONICA. Recently got out of jail and is most probably back for revenge. She’ll want to get back at me by using Kael. Very likely to do something like this.

DORIAN. Wants me out of Scepter and will most likely do anything to get Jethro to resign as CEO. Could even be working with Veronica.

Even though Veronica and Dorian had become her prime suspects, she didn’t rule out the possibility of Viola being involved. She couldn’t put anything past that woman.

Her only problem now was getting all these people in for investigation; she didn’t want to have to go to war for a few hours of questioning. Because if she took them against their will, she would certainly be fighting on different fronts afterwards.

She needed the council at this point in the investigation, and thankfully, Jethro had influence. She got up immediately and went in search of him.

Rashel found Jethro at the site of the destroyed control systems; he had brought in experts to install a new system using the blueprints that Rashel had developed when she first arrived at Scepter.

When he saw her, he stopped what he was doing and walked over to meet her.

“Didn’t think you’d be outside so soon, Aresystems. Are you feeling okay?” Jethro asked as he took her hand and led her to where the installations were going on.

“Yeah, I’m good. I needed to discuss something with you.”

“Right now?”

Rashel only nodded and said nothing else.

“Carry on, guys. Bye, guys; I’ll join you guys later. Phil, I need you to supervise till I’m back.” Jethro said as he walked away, still holding Rashel’s hand.

Rashel didn’t pull her hand away from his, guys; as a matter of fact, during this entire ordeal, she didn’t push Jethro away like she was inclined to in situations like these. His presence provided her with a sense of grounding, his grounding, and for once, she didn’t feel like she was alone or had to handle it all alone.

They walked in silence, hand in hand, all the way to the office. Rashel didn’t speak until the door clicked shut.

“Come look at this.” She said as she walked to the board.

“Okay, what am I looking at?” Jethro asked, shifting his gaze from the board to Rashel.

“A list of people who have motive to destroy this property and take Kael. I need a few hours with them for some questioning.”

“Rashel, you know we can’t”—grounding,

“We can’t—can, Jethro! Just a few hours, and I promise if I don’t get anything, I’ll let them go.”

“Supposing I agree to this, how do we get them to come in for questioning? You know they won’t.”

“That’s why I brought you here. We’re not the ones who will summon them for hours; the council will.”

“Rashel—” then, “Rashel—” Jethro started to argue.

“I know it’s probably going to be hard, but I need this. My child is out there, there, and I don’t know what condition he’s in. I don’t even know if he’s alive.”

“Hey, hey, nothing has happened to Kael, okay? We’re going to find him in one piece, I promise. I’ll talk to some people and find a way to make it work.”

“Thank you. I’m sorry for making you do this, but I really need this to happen.”

“It’s alright. I would go the extra mile for my child.” Jethro said and hugged Rashel.

Immediately after Immediately after Jethro left the room, he pulled out his phone and called Bridgette, the chairperson of the high seating. She owed him a favor, and it was time for him to collect.

“Good morning, favor. Morning, Doc,” Jethro said as soon as she answered.

“Hello, Alpha. How are you holding up?”

“Pretty well.”

“I’m sorry about your child, morning, child; we were really looking forward to the wedding as well. I do hope he’s found safe.”

“Thank you, child; you, Bridgette. That’s why I’m calling you; I need a favor.”

“Sure. Is there something I can do to help?”

“I need you to summon a few people by tomorrow. I have some suspects I need to call and question, and I can’t do it myself without a fight. But if the council summons them, then I have a better chance.”

“Jethro, you’re my very good friend, and I respect you, but what you’re asking is really difficult. You know how this might look.”

“Please, Bridgette. You can make this look like due process if you want. You are the council, and your word is law. My child is out there, council, and I don’t know what the hell is happening.”

“I’ll try my best, I promise. Give me your list, and I’ll order a summons. There, I’ll handle the rest of the high seating.”

“Thank you so much. You should receive a list in your mail any moment now.”

“I’ll contact you soon.”

Jethro ended the call and went back to his own room, feeling lost and confused. He had fought battles that almost took his life, but he had never been in this kind of situation before. He loved Kael like his own blood, summons, and having no idea where or who took him was killing him. The fact that any wrong action he took could very easily put the child in even more danger was another thing that frustrated him. The other times, he could use force when diplomacy and strategy didn’t work, but this time, he couldn’t afford to step on the toes of the wrong person, lest he risk losing both Kael and Rashel.

He wondered who would be sick enough to put a child in danger just to get back at his parents, and in all honesty, the only people who came to mind were the people on the list. There was now one more problem left, which was the issue of locating Veronica. The council could only summon the other four, except Veronica, because she was nowhere to be found. No one even knew if she was still in Denver, and even if she was, she definitely wouldn’t show herself.

His new problem was finding Veronica.

Viola was beyond excited when she heard the update on Kael’s kidnapping. Just the thought of Rashel losing her child made her squeal in delight, and even with her growing baby bump, she half sprinted to the bedroom to share her excitement with Seth. He was on the phone when she entered, and she had to wait for him to finish before sharing the updates.

“See you soon, Mother. Have a safe flight.” Seth said as he ended the call.

Just the mention of Charlotte was enough to spoil Viola’s mood, but she didn’t let herself dwell on it for too long; she would get rid of her very soon.

“What’s the matter, baby? What’s got you so excited?” Seth smiled as he turned his attention to Viola.

“Apparently, Rashel still doesn’t know who took her kid. For once, someone is winning, and it’s not Rashel.” Viola mocked.

“I guess the child is paying for his mother’s sins. She stepped on too many toes.” Seth agreed.

Just then, a text entered her phone; she checked her screen, and it was from Merikh.

I need to see you immediately; Veronica is out.

Viola was aware that Veronica was out of prison, but she forced herself not to think about her promise as she was taken away. She promised to come back and take her revenge, and now she was back. The truth was, Viola actually believed that Veronica was responsible for Kael’s abduction, and she could very well confirm if she wanted to, but she didn’t want to reach out to her.

“Doesn’t stop me from hitting her when I’m ready,” Viola said.

“Don’t you think this is suffering enough?” Seth asked, and Viola stared at him as he had just grown horns on his head.

“I need to go out, babe; I’ll see you later. I was supposed to be having lunch with my brother. He just texted to remind me.” Viola said, ignoring Seth’s statement.

She didn’t wait for him to respond before picking up her handbag and leaving the room; she texted Merikh as she walked to her car.

Meet me at the warehouse.
