Chapter 48

Chapter 48

THORAN'S POV

Elara screamed in rage and summoned another wave of magic, this one much larger than the previous one. Her magic was building up a storm. Elara swung a hand toward my mate, and in a swift movement, Kaida slashed her dagger through the air at what I could only determine to be wisps of smoke that she alone could see.

In a voice filled with venom, Elara yelled, “You think you can defeat me? Me? I will destroy you!”

‘Alpha Thoran, Luna Kaida,’ Dylan called through the mindlink. Dylan was a member of our group. He had joined everyone to disperse during the attack.

‘What’s going on?’ I asked in concern.

‘We are done. The rogues in the Nyx pack have been eradicated,’ he informed me.

‘Alright, remain on standby,’ I answered. This was good news. It helped motivate us to fight more fiercely.

We ignored her tantrum, moving as one as we covered one another. Kaida continued to strike relentlessly and with precision. The dagger pulsed with energy, a sign that the blade was absorbing the dark energy around. I swerved to the opposite direction and began to thrust and slash at her with my claws, successfully distracting Elara and causing her spells to fail almost instantly.

There was a visible shift; the calm eyes of Elara slowly started to lose their shine as she continued to lash out in panic. “You fools! You don’t understand who you’re dealing with!” she snarled.

Kaida laughed mirthlessly. “I think I understand perfectly, Elara. This ends tonight. No more lies, no more manipulation.”

Every time the witch sent a burst of magic toward me, Kaida intercepted it, either by blocking it with the dagger or knocking it aside.

“Fine,” Elara said forcefully. “You have forced my hand. I applaud you for pushing me this much. You will pay the consequences, however.”

Abruptly, a wall of black flame surrounded us. It was wide and tall, barring us from outside interference.

“Why don't you try to use that small dagger now, little Kaida?” With that, she cast a spell and sent a wave of lightning toward us.

“Thoran!” Kaida cried. There was a slight tremble in her voice. She moved swiftly, like a raging whirlwind, as she fought and slashed her way through to me.

Kaida stood facing Elara, her grip tightening around the magical dagger. The air was thick with tension as Elara’s hands glowed with swirling dark magic. The witch sneered, “You really think that blade will save you?”

Kaida didn’t reply. She stayed focused, her heart pounding in her chest. When Elara raised her hands and unleashed a wave of dark energy, Kaida stepped forward and swung the dagger, cutting through the attack. The blade absorbed the magic, glowing faintly in response.

Elara’s expression darkened. She hurled another blast, faster this time, but Kaida dodged and charged forward. Each step was deliberate, every swing of the dagger aimed to push Elara back.

“You’ve hurt too many people,” Kaida said, her voice steady despite the chaos. “It’s over, Elara.”

Elara snarled, summoning shadowy tendrils from the ground. One coiled around Kaida’s leg and yanked her off balance. Kaida gritted her teeth, slashing through it with the dagger. The tendrils dissolved into nothing. She refused to let Elara stop her now.

“You’re just a child!” Elara spat, her voice dripping with anger. She raised a wall of black fire, hoping to keep Kaida at a distance.

Kaida didn’t flinch. She swung the dagger with determination, and the flames split apart, absorbed by the blade. Elara’s eyes widened slightly, her confidence faltering as Kaida closed the gap between them.

Kaida and I advanced quickly, dodging waves of dark magic and cutting through the air with precision. The dagger pulsed with energy, absorbing everything Elara threw at her. The witch began to falter, her attacks growing weaker and more desperate.

Elara stumbled as Kaida moved in closer. She began to aim to destroy the dagger. Something caught Kaida's wrist, and my mate had no choice but to toss the dagger toward me. I shifted to my wolf form in a split second and caught it mid-air.

For the next few minutes, I slashed at Elara and managed to land a few strikes. Wisps of smoke, representing dark magic, caught my foot, tugging me off the ground. Using the momentum of the pull, I swung and slammed myself into Elara while simultaneously tossing the dagger back to Kaida. Finally, with the help of her super speed, my mate found an opening. I watched as the rogue witch’s eyes widened in fear. Kaida didn’t hesitate. Seizing her opportunity, she drove the dagger forward, straight into Elara’s chest.

Elara screamed, her voice filled with pain and fury. I placed my hand over Kaida’s, and together we pushed the dagger deeper into her heart. Black magic began to spill out of Elara into the dagger in waves. Elara continued to scream in pain until the dagger pulsed one last time, pulling the last of the dark magic from her body. Elara fell to her knees, her strength fading as the glow in her hands disappeared.

I went to Kaida at once as she stepped back, breathing hard, her eyes locked on the witch. Elara slumped to the ground, lifeless. The fight was over. Kaida breathed a sigh of relief. Finally.

I pulled my mate into my arms and whispered soothing words to her. “It’s over.” She closed her eyes and melted against me, exhausted beyond belief.

Her thoughts and emotions washed over me through the mate bond. She thought about all that we had lost and all those who had suffered at the hands of Elara and the rogue pack. She hoped we could find peace with Elara's death.

Members of the Nyx pack and warriors from my pack began to pour out from different corners of the pack grounds. They found us standing over Elara's body. Some of them wore looks of confusion, while some wore looks of relief.

I turned to Kaida and spoke to her through the mate bond. ‘These are still your people. What do you want to do?’ Kaida turned to them.

‘A new era is about to begin, and I will make sure that it's for the better.’ She said through the bond before turning to her Father's people.
