Chapter 46

Chapter 46

KAIDA'S POV

I looked from Yvonne's body to Elara. She had gotten stronger after absorbing Yvonne's essence. It was easy to tell by the way her skin seemed to glow and smoothen. She looked much younger. My blood boiled as my gaze shifted towards Yvonne's body. Sure, Yvonne had made some terrible mistakes but she had not deserved to die such a brutal death.

I didn't think my hatred for Elara could amplify to this extent but it did. I was going to stop her, even if it was the last thing that I did. I took out the dagger Meena had given me and watched as the smile faded from Elara's lips. She was afraid of the dagger; to be exact, she was afraid of the magic in the dagger. Good, I thought in satisfaction. She took a couple steps backwards and seemed to summon more rogue warriors between us.

The fight began. I was like a swift and raging fire, delivering precise and effective strikes. My hate for Elara and pain for everyone that had lost their lives because of her fuelled my movements. I made sure to use the dagger to fight the rogues, in the hopes that Elara's hold on them would break.

I felt energy thrumming through the dagger, especially each time it pierced through an opponent. It was powerful, but it wasn’t enough to stop me from feeling the strain. I was fighting against not just the rogues but even time itself. The longer we stayed here, the more dangerous Elara would become.

"Thoran, keep moving!" I called out as we cut through another wave of warriors. I knew he wasn’t as strong as he wanted to be. We both had been fighting for what felt like hours. They were coming at us from different directions. It was a testament to just how many packs that Elara had taken down if she still had these many rogues fighting for her.

He nodded at me, not needing to say a word. He understood the urgency just as well as I did. We still had so many more to go. I could hear their growls, see the hate in their eyes as they tried to stop us, but I wouldn’t let them. Nothing would stop me from getting to Elara.

I wasn't just fighting. The rogues were the only obstacle preventing me from reaching Elara. I fought them with the goal of stopping Elara in mind. Snarls and growls filled the air. Elara’s forces would never stop coming until we reached her. Still, I couldn’t let that stop me. Not now. Not when we were so close. Thoran fought just as hard. We were both running on fumes. But the more we cut down, the more they came. It didn’t seem to end. My arm ached, my body screamed for rest, but I ignored it. There was no time for weakness.

The rogues surrounding us weren’t enough to slow us down—not anymore. We pushed through, but we were still not at Elara’s side. There was still more to get through, however, the rogues were thinning. I could see her now, just a few paces away, standing in the distance with that smug look on her face.

Another warrior came at me, this one bigger and more determined. I barely had time to react before he lunged, and his heavy clawed paws came down toward me. I ducked at the last minute, sliding down so he leapt over me. He stopped a few steps behind me as I spun around, and we faced off against each other. I studied the large wolf and determined that this must be one of her personal guards. Thoran was busy fighting against two other wolves. I also took note of the fact that these were the last of the wolves that we had to fight.

This motivated me to fight a lot fiercer and harder than before. My exhaustion and my fatigue was weighing down heavily on my body but still I fought.

The werewolf snarled and swiped at me with its claws. I dodged and weaved, barely avoiding its attacks, and struck back with the dagger. The rogue was powerful, no doubt, and would have been a good warrior of her pack once upon a time, but I was quick and agile. I darted in and out of the range of the wolf's paw, and continued to land precise blows with the dagger. The werewolf howled in pain as the blade bit deep into its flesh.

Despite its superior strength, the rogue stumbled backward under my relentless attack. So I pressed my advantage, and struck again and again until the werewolf collapsed to the ground, defeated. I stood over it as my chest heaved in exhaustion and fatigue, the dagger was still clutched in my hand. I shifted my gaze to Thoran and saw that he was done battling the two rogues. He had some cuts and bruises but thankfully, nothing serious. He caught up and we turned to face Elara, together.

Elara gritted her teeth in annoyance. “Useless mutts!” She spat. “If you want to get things done, you need to get it done yourself.” She said before launching herself at me. This time around, I caught her in one hand and flung her as hard as I could, with maximum strength.

With the dagger still in my hand, I could see the wisps of smoke that followed her hand movements as she tried to fling me to the side once again. I ducked appropriately, stunning Elara. She attempted the same thing a few more times, frustration had begun to set in. Suddenly, she stopped. “You're annoyingly persistent and quick, scurrying around like the rat that you are.” She said mockingly. My eyes narrowed into slits. She was up to her trickery again, the conniving witch. “I suppose you are like your mother in that regard.” I clenched my jaw, my hands folding into fists. She dealt the final blow., “that is, until I finally got rid of her.”
