Chapter 14

Chapter 14

Marcus could only helplessly stare around like a lost five-year-old kid, looking at the crowd he could only see them laughing at their desires while some were giggling and clapping their hands.

It was like his world finally came crashing down in front of him, he always obeyed and did everything he could to win their father's heart.

What he was scared that would happen finally happened, Marcus knew the moment their father made Lucus the next-in-line heir everything would probably be over for him in a second, and he and his mother would forever be a slave to the Smith family.

No matter how he tried, nothing kept going the way he wanted, no matter how hard he worked, he had many part-time jobs and the money was never enough to do something rather he spent it on his mother's health.

“You've done well Lucus, you've made the Smith family proud and we're proud of you.”

“I'm sure your mother would be so proud to have a perfect son like you because your father has never been proud of something and yet you made me proud.”

The words rang inside Marcus' ears and instantly hit the jackpot as he couldn't help but wonder whether his mother was proud of him.

Marcus' gaze was only fixed on his father, one could see the pain in his eyes. Marcus was hoping his gaze and his father's gaze would meet before he made up his mind but the old man's gaze was only fixed on Lucas without bothering to look at his second son.

Marcus could only release his pains on the hem of his clothes and before he could think straight the shirt tore instantly, one wouldn't blame it as the dress was made of low quality.

“From today henceforth, Smith Marcus is made the heir of the Smith family!”

Mr Smith announced instantly which led to screams from the guests as nobody was expecting him to release the huge news just like that, they were expecting him to announce he'll be the next in line heir.

Marcus staggered backward instantly, it was like all his dreams finally came crashing in a day. In a day he lost the only woman he planned to spend the rest of his life with and that same day his stepbrother was made the heir and that same day he was beaten to pump leaving him with nothing.

Marcus walked down the stage like a lifeless person who had no reason to leave. Immediately he got down and a waitress walked towards him and passed him a glass of vodka.

Immediately the waitress passed the glass to Marcus successfully, she cunningly looked towards Lucus who's their eyes immediately met and bowed before leaving Marcus was too busy to even notice those strange acts, he could only gulp the whole content and walked out of the hall not without staggering like a drunkard.

Marcus walked along the streets of New York like a drunkard. Suddenly, the clouds and weather changed. Everyone along the street went to the outer shelter while some were bringing out their umbrellas as they already heard the news of the heavy rain from the forecast, only Marcus didn't know anything about the rain.

“Nooo! This can't be happening to me!” He screamed out in agony and just like that the heavy started pouring and at the same time beating in a hellish way.

“Why can't you see me as your son? Just why?”

“Why I'm I an outcast? Why I'm I the illegitimate son? Don't I deserve fatherly love, huh?!” Marcus screamed out inside the rain.

Since he had nowhere to go, he could only stay inside the rain and was beaten by the heavy rain.

No matter how he cried out his eyes, he tried to wash his pains and betrayal in the rain but the more he tried the more the pains came afresh.

“Father, I need your love, just look at me,” Marcus mumbled as he fell on his knees, all these years, he had always yawned for his father's love but he never got it even if for a second he would have appreciated it.

Almost immediately, an alarm started ringing which got his attention, checking the time it was twenty minutes to the time his mother would be taking her drug he had to get home before five o'clock which was the actual time for the drug usage.

The rain wasn't going to stop anything soon, and Marcus knew he could only run home before it was too late. He got up but his tattered clothes were already filled up with mold but he was careless about that, the only thing on his mind was his mother.

Without thinking twice, Marcus tried to cross to the other side of the road without watching where he was going before he realized it was extremely too late for him, as there wasn't turning back

Before Marcus could know what was happening at that particular moment, he found himself fleeing in the air, the unknown car slammed him hard, knocking him back to the ground.

Everything happened so fast and before he knew it everything became blurry as he lay on the pavement emotionless surrounded by his pool of blood.

Marcus was unaware of his surroundings already.
