15. A Desperate Cry for Help
15. A Desperate Cry for Help
There was no one else in the village left alive that we could find. After the children were carefully checked, it was proven that they were perfectly alright. It seemed their father got them out before the intruders even knew they were there. Which was a good thing.
However, we found their father among those who had tragically lost their lives that fateful day. We buried him, along with everyone else before night could fall and took the two small children with us until we finally reached another town miles out.
Thankfully, this one was untouched by the vicious attacks and after explaining everything, well to be precise, Taewon explained since I was forced to stay in one of the carriages to avoid any suspicions and accusations, they sent out some men to look for further clues, and the women took the children in to care for them. I asked Pierre to make sure they would be provided with a good home and upbringing before we left them behind.
As requested by Chun-Soo, we ended up staying a night in the village. I would have preferred to keep on going, but the dramatics of the young man was downright exhausting. We all just gave him his way. I didn’t want to stay since I was forced to also camp out far from the village. No one would understand my genetic issue and according to the others it was just best to keep out of sight.
Pierre and the others was willing to camp with me but I forced them to stay in an inn since it had been so long that they all slept in a heated room with a comfortable bed. Not to mention a hot bath. They all deserved to relax.
I was okay with that. I was.
But it still didn’t stop the feeling of loneliness or being an outcast to fester in the center of my chest. Sometimes, I do wish I could be a part of that. Okay, most times. And while I could just march into that village and say screw them all, I couldn’t. The first and only time I’ve done it was the worst experience I’ve ever had and I never wish to have a repeat again.
Because as much as I hated to admit it, people were scared of me. Scared of what I could do, of what I could become. And no amount of easing will appease them. So, it was just best to stay out here, alone in the darkness of the forest.
It wasn’t until I had fallen asleep under the stars that the dream starts. But this time it wasn’t the one I have been having for the last few months. This one was different. I open my eyes to reveal a willow tree just above me, the branches reaching down to me in welcome as the breeze gently hits my skin.
I felt a presence nearby and slowly lifted myself from the grass covered ground to see I was placed on a small hill. In the distance she stood there staring at me. But she wasn’t smiling, nor was she blanked faced like she sometimes was. Instead, I see desperation.
Frowning, I quickly get to my feet, not sure whether to walk to her or not. We never interacted with one another before, and she always ignored my questions. But I couldn’t deny the fact that she was pleading me with something, something that she needed from me.
I decide to take a step in her direction and a sudden sweet voice enters my mind.
I need your help, child born of the Lycan blood.
I jerk to a stop and couldn’t help my shock of hearing her voice for the very first time. I was so flabbergasted that I don’t move, don’t make a single sound.
An impending tragedy will soon fall upon the world and you are the only one who can stop it.
That snaps me out of my dumbfounded state. What was she talking about? I couldn’t do or say anything but blink at her, trying to comprehend what her words meant.
Lycaon is rising once more and he’s not alone. He has been building an army of Lycans, forcing them against their will to fight for his cause. This time he will stop at nothing but to destroy those who has betrayed him.
The images of my nightmare flies through my mind. The destruction, the fear, the blood. Was it a warning then? Or was it a premonition? Either way I didn’t like where this was going. What she may be asking of me.
You are the only one in this world who can stop him.
I didn’t pretend like I didn’t understand what she wanted from me. She believes my abilities are the only thing that can stop him for good. Even though it was his blood that had given me them in the first place. The only question is, am I’m strong enough to do it?
After that dream it was like a catalyst of events. Soon, villages were being attacked, homes were being ransacked, and lives were being taken. And every night since then, I had the same occurring dream over and over with her words haunting me.
You are the only one in this world who can stop him.
I wrote to my father that I couldn’t come home just yet, whether he actually cared or not I don’t know, he never sent word back.
But weeks later more troops were sent where we decided to station. I was doing my best to figure out how I could help the woman in my dreams. It wasn’t until a month later that the answer finally reached me.
His name was Lucian. An English man that was happier and jollier than any person I have ever met before. He was garbed in armor that was plated with a wolf’s head in the center, banners following his wake as he marched with dozens of men behind him all wearing the crest.
It was then I fully understood that it was a war we were heading into.
