141. I'm Afraid
“The ritual is very uncommon, but not impossible. It’s the same ritual that Moon Goddess Selene used against Azure to extract his abilities. As for why he did it…it’s because for Azure to gain those abilities back he needs each pure blood of the four clans to do it.”
I close my eyes taking a step back as everyone once again starts talking over themselves with disbelief. Tears sprang to my eyes as I finally look away. Safina was silent as Shane and Trevor both voice their opinions on the matter. My hands wouldn’t stop shaking as I trek them in my hair and fold them against the back of my neck. Calming down wasn’t easy.
“He was able to extract the Grey’s wolf ability from Arion and he also already has the Black wolf’s as well.”
I snap my eyes open to stare back at him with confusion. I knew that Shane wasn’t the only Black wolf in existence. His distant relatives lived deep in the mountains. But as rumors were told they weren’t very friendly towards others that they deemed outcasts. So, it would be nearly damn impossible to get one from them. Even if they kidnapped like they did with Arion, a war would have broken out with them.
Because even if they would consider the man or woman to be a traitor, if they were from their clan, they wouldn’t sit idly by to let someone else to do whatever they wanted with them. They held the old customs from centuries old and they don’t plan to change them anytime soon.
“Where was he able to get a pure Black wolf?” Shane demands, probably wondering the same thing.
Zidane goes quiet all of the sudden, not meeting his eyes. A new dread seeps into me as I was starting to realize another horrible fact. When he refuses to say another word, Shane’s eyes turned fearful with an underlying rage.
“Where did he get the Black wolf from?” He demands in a whisper.
“I’m sorry.” Was all the kid could say.
Tears immediately starts falling from his eyes as he just stares at him with disbelief. Safina slaps her hands over her mouth, gasping, as she finally catches on and looks to Shane with horrified eyes.
“S-So her being sick…she didn’t have cancer…did s-she?” He brokenly asks.
“I f-found out only because Zander had found her along side Arion when he found him. Before he grabbed his body, your father came in and carried her out. Arion stated she had been drugged like him, but she was only there for a day.”
A sob breaks out of Shane as he leans forward on his knees. His breathing was getting erratic and choppy. Tears couldn’t be stopped from my own eyes to learn what had happened to my Luna. Looking to Derek, I could see his own tears falling as he stares at his best friend. Trevor was no better.
“So…she didn’t die because she was sick, but because she was missing a piece of her. She died from a broken heart.” Trevor shakily states for everyone.
I jerk at the sudden anguish yell that Shane lets out as he nearly rips his hair out. Safina rushes to him to get him to stop, yelling his name.
“I’m going to kill him! I’m going to kill that fucking bastard! How could he...how could he do something like that to her?! She was his wife! She was my m-mother...why…w-why…?” His sobs tore through the tunnels of the cavern, echoing loudly.
I rub the wet tears from my cheeks, watching him break in front of us. Safina clutches his head to her chest, whispering soothing words as tears of her own fell too.
I walk up to Derek, taking his hand into mine. At this point I didn’t care who saw us like this. It seems a more serious matter was at hand right now and being self-conscious because the two of us were men, who were mates, was the last thing on their minds.
He looks down at me and I think he senses my rising fear of what all of this could mean. He peers down at my face, which was probably just as puffy and red as his was from all the crying we were doing, his bright eyes shining with concern for me.
I nod my head in the direction that showed further into the cave, pass beyond where I was sleeping before. Taking his hand, I guide us both away from the group, that was trying to get Shane to calm down. I didn’t need to hear any more of what they were discussing, because I already knew where it was going.
I slowly turn back to Derek, wiping my face with the sleeve of my over shirt that I had on.
“Benji?” He asks, wiping his face too.
“I-I d-don’t know…” Swallowing with difficulty, I try hard to not start crying again. “Derek…I’m scared.” I whisper, looking back up at him.
He stares down at me with furrowed brows.
“I’m afraid, no, I’m terrified.” I state firmly.
Through all of this Radolf had been silent. Because I know he understood exactly what all of this meant. He knew, just like I knew.
“Benji. I’m here with you. You don’t have to be afraid.” He starts out but I just start shaking my head at him.
“You don’t get it Derek. They all have others. This…Victor guy can just choose any of them. But me?” I stress, my voice wobbly from the fear seeping into my bones.
Staring into my mate’s eyes, they slowly start to understand.
“I’m the only one of my kind. There are no others for me Derek. Radolf and I…were the last Red wolf, the last of our clan.”
Staring up at him, I don’t look away. “He’ll be after me no matter what.”
