103. The Favor
I wait until the door shuts on the last person before I head to his side of the bed. He had his eyes down, looking at his hands. Once I got to the edge, I carefully sat down on the bed making him look up at me.
“I had a…different dream.” He starts out carefully.
A different dream? Then the one of his wolf? A dream about what? Was it possible that he had dreamed about…? My body stiffens a little as I let him finish what he needed to say. For all I knew, he could be talking about something completely unrelated.
“What was it about?” I ask hesitantly.
He just sits there staring at me and I was starting to feel a little anxious. Suddenly he throws the covers off him and tries to get out of bed. My eyes widen when he hisses from the pain that he caused himself by moving so quickly.
“Shane, what are you doing?!” I chastise him, reaching out a hand to make sure he doesn’t fall flat on his face as he stands up.
“I’m fine, just a bit sore.” He slightly pushes my hands away.
I watch him wobble a little before he was able to get his balance. He looks over to me and we just stare at each other for a moment.
“Your eyes are different today.” He says calmly.
I couldn’t help but flinch while quickly looking away. “A-Are they?”
“That favor I asked of you…can we go there now?”
I look back up at him with shock. “Right now? You had just woken up not that long ago, Shane. Besides, I can tell you’re still weak-”
“It has to be now…please?” He was practically begging.
What was wrong with him? Why was he acting so different since he had woken up? I watch him just standing there looking at me as if my answer meant the world to him. What exactly had he dreamed? Suddenly a feeling of fear enters my being at what was going to happen next and where he wanted to take me.
“Okay.” I swallow that fear and help him get his folded clothes, so he could change.
After he gets dressed in his personal bathroom, we both quietly, and sneaking like a couple of thieves, walk out of the hospital. The place was really laxed. You would figure they had learned their lesson with what had happened with Shane. The receptionist was once again nowhere to be seen.
The sun in the sky was starting to lower as the evening was coming. He grabs my hand as we jog to the edge of the wall where the hole was. He didn’t even bother to see if anyone was watching us. My heart starts to pound as we casually just walk into the forest, once again not bothering that we could be caught by the guards up top.
What was on his mind? Why did he seem so eager to take me to whatever place he was taking me? Again, I wondered what he had dreamed. And the more I thought about it, along with how he was acting, the more the fear grew.
He doesn’t let go of my hand as we continue to walk for what seems like miles into the deep forest. I wasn’t sure how long it had been, but the sun was a lot lower than before, making the trees look like a fairy tale glow.
We don’t say a word to each other as we walk. I was getting really anxious the further we were going. Then I look around more closely to our surroundings. My step falters as I recognize this area.
“S-Shane?” I couldn’t help but voice out as I let go of his hand.
He doesn’t turn around as he keeps going. “It’s just a bit further ahead. We’re almost there.” He exclaims.
My heart starts to slam in my chest as that fear escalades within me. I slowly follow him but then had to pick up my pace when he wasn’t slowing down.
I clench my fists in my shirt tightly, trying to control this anxiety that wanted to lose control. Why? Why was he heading in this direction for? How does he know about this location? The dream. It had to do something with that dream he had.
Just when he turns left, did I finally come to a full stop. Tears sprang to my eyes and I don’t dare to move another step. It only took a few moments before he slowly came back to where I was. His face showed nothing as he looks to me.
“Why did you stop?” The sound of his voice seems reserved, as if waiting to see what my answer would be.
What was he looking for by doing this?
A single tear fell as I take a step backwards. “Shane…?” I whisper, slowly shaking my head.
He takes a step closer, making me a bit scared of him. “What’s wrong? Why are you crying?” He asks softly, his eyes becoming a gentle making my fear lessen.
“Shane.” I whisper again, not knowing what else to say.
“Is it because you recognize where we’re at? Where we’re going? You know this place, don’t you?” He takes another step towards me.
Another tear falls and I turn away from him. “It’s g-getting dark. I think we should head back now.” I start to walk away, but then his words stop me cold in my tracks.
“Night Stone.”
I just stand there as if my body had frozen over and couldn’t be moved. My heart slamming now to where it was nearly the only thing I heard.
“Myron.”
It was getting difficult to breathe now. How the hell did he know Myron’s name?
“It was here, wasn’t it? At this cliff? Twenty years ago, when Night Stone was brutally attacked?” His tone was soft and only getting closer to me.
Tears fell as I reach my hands to cover my mouth to keep him from hearing me cry. Did he know? Did he figure it out somehow? Or has he always known? But then how would he know Myron?
I felt his body come close to mine, but I didn’t dare turn around to face him. What was he trying to play at here? How could he do this to me?
“I had a dream, that wasn’t really a dream at all.” The sound of his voice was next to my ear, whispering gently. His breath against my neck placing goosebumps to crawl over my skin.
“You were there, but it wasn’t really you. She told me a story that seems impossible. And yet…somehow, I couldn’t help but believe her once I was shown a horrible, terrifying vision.”
