CHAPTER HUNDRED TWENTY TWO

Enya pov

If it hadn't been for that lovely lady, I wouldn't have been able to accept the news as fast as I did. Everything the pack doctor told me felt like a punch below the belt. Still, I'm glad she told me the truth and offered to tell me more about the history of werewolves. If Mother Nature decided I couldn't have children, so be it.

The only person I'm really worried about is Vince. He was at the hospital and stormed off as soon as the doctor told him everything. It's been hours since Aros tried to mind-link him and about thirty minutes since Aros left the packhouse. I hope he finds him as soon as possible and drags this stubborn man home. Vince needs to sit down with me and talk. And while I know the news hurts him- there are some things in life we can't change. And this, unfortunately, is one of them.

I decided to stay in the living room with Roma. I missed the old man and can't put it in words how glad I am that he's no longer in those filthy cells. Angela did him dirty, but at least Vince found a loophole to get him out there.

I haven't seen my mother for now, but Aros told me she might be out of town on business. If she decides to come by later, I could accept that some things happen as they do, and I don't want to lose her again, certainly not over something she didn't tell me. I can't feel bad about the death of a horrible person- Dirk hurt many by making me kill innocent people. He was the first kill I felt genuinely proud of.

Life's slowly getting into its tracks. Roma sits by my side; I'll figure out how to deal with my mate and our newfound obstacle, my mother is alive, and Aros will soon become a father- they are having a girl. If someone asked me, I'd say we're doing pretty well. Sure everyone has their ups and downs, but that's part of the journey.

"You're a good woman, don't beat yourself down," Roma's voice brings me back to reality. I watch him put the cup down and smile at him.

In the darkness of the cells, I never noticed how similar Roma and Vincent are. If I didn't know they were father and son, I'd assume they were brothers, and Roma is only a few years older.

"I'm okay; you shouldn't worry about me. Besides, I have a proposition to make, and something tells me Vince might agree," I wiggle my eyebrows at him. I'm sure I look silly, but this action brings a smile to Roma's lips, and that's all I need to dispel the tension.

"We had a rocky start, to Hell, it wasn't any better for you and my son, but I'm proud of how far you two have come. It's a unique relationship you two have- hold each other and don't let anything or anyone get in the way of your happiness. You've changed for the better, and along with that, you've changed my son for the better. I'm proud to call you my daughter-in-law. But if you don't mind, I'd rather call you my daughter. Daughter-in-law sounds too formal for family." Roma reaches for my hand and holds it tightly. Tears spring to my eyes as I nod. The sincerity and genuine love in his voice give me a small glimpse of what it feels like to have a dad. Not a father or trainer, but a dad.

A tear rolls down my cheek, and I grip his hand. "Thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for giving me the chance to make up for my mistakes and prove that there's more to me than just a cold-blooded murderer. If I could, I'd turn back time and quit before I started down this path. I'll regret everything I have done until the end of my days, and I'll continue to do everything I can to become better."

Roma chuckles at my words. "There's no need for that, child, believe me. You redeemed yourself long before entering this house or learned that my son was your mate. Aros told me." The smile on his lips turns into a wide grin in seconds.

I think about everything Aros could have told him, but nothing seems like something that could undo any crime I've committed. "He told you what?" I feel so confused; I'm not sure I could understand what Roma means even if he tried to explain. Something seems off. I haven't done anything outstanding or worth discussing, let alone anything that would have made me a better person. I mean, I am trying, but I'm not there yet.

"You thought no one would figure it out, did you? Or were you so focused on the bad things you were forced to do that you don't remember all the right decisions you made behind their backs? As most pack members, Aros wasn't as fond of you when you first got here. But he did notice the way some of our rescues looked at you. The women, the children all referred to you as their guardian angel. These were the pregnant women or women with children who wandered into the territory of the Alliance. And so it happens that this angel led them away from the danger during the night. But the same person never crossed the borders of nearby packs- she led these lost souls to the nearest safe place and disappeared. One of those women, by the way, was Alpha Aliana. The lost daughter of Alpha Baron. She was kicked out of her mate's pack; it doesn't matter why, but the poor girl was eight months pregnant, scared, and completely lost. She met someone who took her to safety. For the record: Alpha Aliana is our Beta's cousin. Aros had enough time to pull information and find out that you're the one who went against the beliefs of the Alliance and saved hundreds of lives. You didn't take half as many lives as you saved. You redeemed yourself a long time ago. And again, I'm so proud to call you my daughter." Tears run down Romas' cheeks as he quickly pulls me into a tight hug. We cry on each other's shoulders- both have a reason for tears, and for once, I'm not ashamed to feel anything.

We barely let go of each other when a strong pair of arms pulls me against a rock-hard chest. Vince buries his face in the crook of my neck and whispers, "Is it true?"

I don't get a chance to answer as Roma jumps up quickly. "As true as it can be, son. Thank you for getting me out of there; it took a while." He winks as he follows Aros into the kitchen.

Though we're alone, Vince thinks the same thing I do and offers me to follow him to our bedroom. We need some privacy to talk and work out the issue we have. I don't know if he's had enough time to think, but I did. And other than that suggestion, I've already made my decision. If Vincent needs to have biological children- I'll beg him to reject me and find someone who can carry his kids. If I can't make him happy, someone else might, and that's my main goal- to see him happy.

As soon as I enter the bedroom, Vince locks the door and pulls me into a passionate kiss. There's no warning or simple hello; it's just his lips pressed to mine. We lose ourselves in passion, and almost nothing matters anymore. This time, I break off the kiss and savour the moment he rests his forehead against mine. A moment like this is worth it all.

"I wish I could bring up the topic about my little guardian angel, but the sooner we talk out the issue, the sooner we can find a solution," Vince closes his eyes as he speaks. Is it because he doesn't want to show me how hurt and disappointed he is?

"I can't have kids. Yeah, that's what I thought," I whisper. It sounded a little better when the doctor said it. When I have to repeat the same thing, it makes me face the fact. Not the best feeling ever.

"I'm not letting you go. Even if you want to leave, I won't let go of you. I will grow on you and follow every step you take. I don't care what anyone else thinks, fuck it, even my wolf is a difficult cunt, but as I said- I don't care. You are the missing piece of my puzzle, and I'll be damned if I have to spend even one day without you. I've waited thirty-two years for you to finally show up. I can't let go, not anymore. Sorry." I'm quite shocked to hear that Vince's wolf, the same animal that was so obsessed with me, doesn't accept the situation for what it is. But I can't blame anyone for what they feel or want. My world is so much more different than theirs, and there is still so much for me to learn.

Before bringing up my proposition, I go for the final question. "Isn't that extra important for an Alpha to have an heir? Someone will be needed to take your place when we're old and wrinkled, right? Maybe it's best if we split up and find someone who can give you a child? Vince, I don't want you to miss out on anything because of me, especially fatherhood. I know how much you want a family, and sometimes we have to sacrifice something to achieve our goals. Have you thought about that?" A lump forms in my throat, stopping me from saying anything more. This man has already lost way too much because of me. I don't want to watch another one of his dreams crushed just because he's an amazing mate and takes my side.

Vince grabs me by the sides of my face and presses his lips to my forehead. "Hell Flame, not in a million years will I be happy without you. We can grow old together, tease each other about wrinkles, and you have my approval to laugh at me the day my dick stops working, but that's what I want. Having a child won't bring me the happiness you have brought me. I don't want a child just to have an heir. I don't need one. If that's what life gives us, then so be it. When I'm too old to serve as Alpha, either Aro's firstborn will take my place or someone chosen by the Council of Elders. Either way, the pack won't be left without a leader, no matter the situation. Now that you know how I feel about the matter, tell me, will you take my hand and join the journey? As my mate, as my Luna, as the love of my life, and if I'm lucky enough- as my wife?" Vincent grins at me like he just hit the jackpot.

"Are you asking me to become your wife?" I gasp. There were many things I thought he might say, but none of my ideas was anywhere near as good as what Vincent just threw at me.

"I am," Vincent lets go of me and hurries over to the nightstand on his side of the bed. I watch him lean down, open the drawer, and take something out. The first thought that pops into my mind is that he's grabbing condoms, thinking he'll get lucky tonight, but I just roll my eyes at that. We wouldn't need damn rubbers anyway. He hurries back to me, kneels, and hands me a small satin box. As he slowly opens it, Vincent clears his throat, "Will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?"
