CHAPTER HUNDRED FOURTEEN

Enya pov

If someone told me I would meet the mother I thought was dead long ago, I would declare the person insane. And yet here I am, in the arms of the same woman who gave me life. The same woman who is still so obviously in love with the man who's my biological father that it hurts. Right now, she's happy to see me, to know I'm safe, but soon that moment will disappear as if it didn't exist.

Wait until she finds out who I've become.

No love is bulletproof, certainly not that of a mother who gave birth to a monster. I bet the man they called my father wouldn't be so proud of me either- the only child he ever had turned out to be the same person who killed those of his own.

And just as I expected, someone clears their throat. I look to my left and notice Angela, grinning wider than the Cheshire Cat. That woman always has some dirt up her sleeve, and I'd be surprised if she didn't use any of it against me.

"As pleased as I am to see the former Luna in such a great mood, I can't remain silent and hide everything we know about her beloved daughter. I hate to be the one to bring the bad news, but Melinda, your precious baby is a killer." Angela grins as she finishes her little announcement. I want to claw her eyes out, but I must remain calm in front of the Council of Elders.

Vincent growls and pulls me away from my mother. He wraps his arms around me possessively, holding me tighter than ever. After a brief moment of silence, I understand why he seems so different. Vincent's voice is deeper, and every other word is followed by a growl or a snarl. It's not Vincent who's holding me. It's Damian.

"One good fucking reason not to paint the walls red!" Damian snarls. He doesn't make much sense, but even I understand that the wolf is a primal part of the pair- he doesn't talk as much as his human self.

"Damian, look at you, still the same adorable pup. You've grown into a big man, both you and Vincent. Do you remember me?" I look at my mother, who is approaching us, in terror. Is she insane? Even I wouldn't risk getting in Damian's way, and he's part of my mate. God, what is it with humans and their stupid, fearless attitudes?

"MINE!" Damian growls at my mother and tightens his grip on me. That's it! I have to say something before the mad wolf hurts my mother. I want to get to know her, not sacrifice her as the next meal for this lunatic.

But before I can do anything, my mother stops closer and points her finger at me. "My pup!" She raises her voice as if that will help her case. "Let go of my cub before you hurt her! Behave!" She scolds a full-grown Alpha wolf as if he were still a pup himself.

Yet to my surprise, Damian loosens his grip around me and whispers a barely audible, "Sorry."

My mother seems pleased with his current attitude, so she quickly turns to Angela and looks at the woman from top to bottom. Is she judging Angela? Oh my God, she definitely does!

I watch as my mother crosses her arms in front of her chest and snorts. "And you, whoever you are, one more word about my child, and I'll show you why I was mated to the last Alpha of the Inferno Tribe. Try me, bitch!" Mom flips Angela off in front of the Council, but no one but the greedy woman is surprised at her attitude. I suspect that my mother, like my father, has a lot of fire in her heart.

"Is there anything else we should discuss? I still have a lot on my shoulders, Luna or not; I have responsibilities," my mother adds as she addresses the Council and smiles at the bunch of grumpy men.

It seems that the Council Elders, no matter how angry they may be, are pretty fond of my mother. One of them immediately takes the floor, completely ignoring the drama he has witnessed. "The final issue, according to the plan, is the possession of the late Alpha Blade's pack. I think everyone agrees with me when I say that we have found the heir and can pass the puck over to the rightful Alpha." I watch as the Elders nod their heads in perfect sync.

Everyone but Angela agrees with the Elders' decision. But she wouldn't be herself if she didn't add a few more words. Angela trudges even closer to the Elders, and this time, the guards restrain her. As she struggles and tries to fight back, Angela starts screaming at the top of her lungs. "No! We bought the pack, and we are going to keep it! You old fuckers can't take away what's mine! I was meant to rule, stand before peasants and show them my greatness. I refuse to become one of those dirt-eating pigs!" How shallow can she be? Is it possible that the woman who walks with such grace and exudes power is actually someone as lowly as she is? It's hard to believe at first, but I'm not surprised why Vince doesn't like her.

The same Elder shakes his head and chuckles at Angela's attempt to fight their decision. "As of this moment, Luna Enya is the rightful Alpha of the said pack. It is entirely up to her whether she chooses to unite the packs with one of her mate or rule separately. The Council of Elders won't involve themselves in private matters. The current Alpha and Luna of the said pack are stripped of their titles and must leave the pack's territory before midnight. The Council of Elders will travel to the pack and evaluate the damage or loss. We are aware of the price you paid for the territory and title. So if the Council decides you've been fair leaders and there are little to no losses, you will get the money back. If not, we will meet in this same room." With those words, the Elders rise from their seats and leave the room. Not a single man casts a glance over their shoulder, nor do they seem too concerned about any fights that might take place after they leave.

Every other person in the room follows their lead and leaves. After a few minutes, only my mother, Vince, myself, the two lunatics, and a few guards are left.

"I won't leave this! I am not going to let some runt take what is mine!" Angela keeps screaming.

I expect Vince to step in front of me because he does that all the time, but to both of our surprise, my mother steps forward. She stomps over to Angela, slaps her across the face with such force that the sound echoes off the walls and the guards gasp. "One. More. Fucking. Word." My mother snaps. "One more fucking word about my daughter, and I'll show you the fine line between a lady with some class and a goddamn savage. You'll see both sides of a woman you clearly aren't!" A shiver runs down my spine. I never thought a human could sound as powerful as she does. God damn it, the man who's my actual father really did some good to her. If only I could get to know him.

I'm pretty sure Angela would back down, but we see no end to her dramatic behaviour. "A runt! A fucking in-between creature that wasn't supposed to live! That's what your daughter is, and she will never become a real Luna! She doesn't have it in her; your daughter is a weak, pathetic leftover of what could have been a powerful pup! Alpha Blade screwed up, he could get any woman he wanted, but he settled for a weak human who couldn't give him the heirs he deserved! And now look at the result- you're still a weak, pathetic human, and your child is nothing but a mistake!" Angela keeps screaming louder than before. As her voice gets louder, it catches the attention of the people who have already left. I look up at the balcony and notice an Elder who spoke to my mother earlier. He just stands there and observes the situation.

"Oh, I've been waiting for this moment to come," Damian lets go of me and steps closer to Angela. I notice the smirk on his lips-one that promises nothing but carnage. Angela's mate tries to get between them, but one look from my mate's wolf is enough, and he raises his hands in defeat as the man backs away. Wait a minute, isn't he going to try and protect his mate? That's what he should be doing, right?

My mother places her hand on Damian's chest and shakes her head. "Let the lady handle the issue with the tramp, son," she smiles at him, and the wolf instantly takes a step back. Until today, I didn't think it would be possible to stop Damian, but my mother is so full of surprises; I doubt I'll have enough time to get to know her fully.

She turns back to Angela as soon as Damian steps back. "Now, you! You have no right to mention my mate or badmouth his daughter. I'm not the fool you think I am. Remember the law we all live by. I have the right to hurt you and hurt you bad, really bad. As a true Luna to a clown, I expect an apology on your fucking knees, or we will settle the issue otherwise."

"Try me!" Angela lunges at my mother as soon as the guards let her go.

I try to jump between them, but Damian holds me back. No way! I trash against him; I need to break free and help my mom- she has no chance against a werewolf, and I won't lose her again, now that I have found her.

While I'm busy trying to free myself from my mate's grip, I don't pay much attention to what's happening around us. It's only the sound of a loud crack that makes me look at them. With nothing but fear in my heart, I look to where Angela and my mother were standing just moments ago. My mom stands before the lifeless body of Angela. She kicks it twice to make sure the woman is dead and smiles. Mom claps her hands, and a cheerful laugh escapes her lips. "I hope you know where Dirk is; it's about time I paid a visit to the darkest part of my past."
