Chapter 48 WOLF CONTROL
Edeline
I felt pretty down.
I couldn’t tear my eyes away from Tatiana, who was crying and whimpering in her chair. My wolf was pacing back and forth inside me, restless and agitated. I curled my lip in disgust at the sound of her jaws snapping outside.
Hang on a second.
I had a fleeting thought of tearing her apart…
And that was all it took.
I needed a moment to zone out, letting my fierce wolf take control and drag me into the depths of our shared thoughts. She glanced at Tatiana with a predatory gaze, her eyes sharp and intense.
Tatiana looked up at me with those muddy brown eyes as I let out a low, threatening growl. I tried to draw her in, but it wasn’t working. She was ticked off, and the presence of that she-wolf in front of us was almost unbearable. It felt like our veins were on fire with anger.
“Hey, Edeline! Can you please control your wolf?” Alpha William’s voice cut through, his eyes locking onto me with concern.
My wolf wasn’t interested in anything but her own instincts. She acted like my body was hers to control, leaping from the chair with wild, almost frantic movements. Mid-air, she shifted, hurling herself across the table. Her sharp claws raked through the air, and her teeth sank into Tatiana’s neck. Blood and spittle flew, leaving Tatiana’s face streaked with droplets of crimson.
The taste of blood was intoxicating, and for a moment, my wolf reveled in it. Just as she seemed to gain the upper hand, the situation changed abruptly. Out of nowhere, someone grabbed her by the scruff and flung her across the room. She crashed into the wall, letting out a small whimper from the jarring impact.
“Let’s get her out of here!” Alpha William’s voice cut through the chaos, loud and commanding. My wolf, still high on the scent of blood, was reluctantly pulled back. I felt a deep embarrassment for my wolf’s actions, nearly causing harm to a pregnant female, but there was also a twisted sense of satisfaction. Nixx and my dad quickly took hold of the crying Tatiana and escorted her out, followed by everyone else. Percival threw a worried glance back at me before closing the door behind them.
My wolf struggled to get up on all fours, but Alpha William intervened swiftly. He seized her by the scruff, his gaze intense as he forced her to meet his eyes. With a firm grip, he compelled her to face mine.
“Shift!” His command was unwavering, making it impossible for my wolf to resist. She retreated, and I was jolted back to the forefront of our thoughts. My body began to transform, and as the shift completed, I curled up on the floor, wrapping myself in a ball. My gaze was fixed on the ground, my head bowed.
I expected him to lecture me about punishment, but he stayed silent. To my surprise, a feeling of relief washed over me, like I could finally breathe again.
I would have loved to have a cozy blanket draped over my shoulders at that moment. After a few deep breaths, I found my footing and sank back into the chair. I tried to get comfortable, my wolf now quiet and subdued beside me.
Alpha William paced back and forth, tugging at his hair in frustration. “Hey, Edeline, we can’t let that happen again. I understand that being a new shifter is tough, so I’m not going to punish you this time. Just remember, Tatiana isn’t part of our pack or Percival’s mate. It’s crucial that you stay away from Percival and especially from Tatiana.” His blue eyes, though tired, held a firm resolve as they met mine.
I nodded, feeling a mix of shame and relief. His tired eyes reflected the weight of the situation, and I knew that, despite everything, I had to make sure this didn’t happen again.
Alpha William looked at me with a serious expression, his blue eyes darker than Percival’s. “To be honest, it’s just you and me here, so let me level with you. I don’t think Tatiana will end up having the pup. For now, I’m just playing the waiting game and going along with what Alpha Conor wants. We’ll have to wait and see if this pregnancy actually happens. There’s a pretty high chance that you’ll end up with your mate—about 90% likely. But until then, it’s probably best to keep your distance. Don’t let yourself get too attached, just in case things don’t work out. If Tatiana does end up having the pup, then we’ll come up with another plan. All of us will. I won’t let my son take over a pack that wants to harm him. So, please trust me, okay? Trust that I know what I’m doing. I don’t want you to hurt any more than you already are, but we can’t afford another situation like this. Do you understand what I’m saying?” He pleaded with his eyes, his tone softening but still firm.
I fought back the urge to sniffle, managing a nod of agreement. I needed to be tough, but my eyes betrayed me, welling up despite my efforts to stay composed.
Alpha William embraced me tightly, burying his face in my hair. “I really don’t want to come off as the strict alpha here... but I care about you like my own family. That’s why I want to keep you safe. Can you please trust me? Just follow my instructions. I don’t want to have to discipline you, and I won’t this time. But I might have to if you don’t listen, since I gave a clear command. Alright?” His voice was filled with concern, and I could sense the genuine care behind his words. I just nodded, feeling a mix of relief and resignation.
Finally, he shared his thoughts with me. He wasn’t convinced Tatiana would carry the pup to term but was playing along for now. I felt a strange mix of gratitude and sadness. It made sense to stay away from Percival. It was better not to invest too many emotions into something uncertain. My heart would hurt less if I didn’t get too involved.
